Loved it, not only as it a romance but also how it gives an insight into a different culture and arranged marriages. I enjoyed the storyline, both had their own reasons why they entered this marriage. Hema was determined to train as a Doctor and Vivek who was sure he would never fall in love. The Caribbean cruise was a lovely backdrop to the storyline.
I liked that the idea behind this story was a little different to the standard Mills & Boon. Both characters want an arranged marriage for different reasons but when they start to feel a growing attraction neither know how to handle it, in what was supposed to be a business marriage.
I liked the setting and the characters - a good read
Making a Marriage Deal is the story of Vivek and Hema who strike a deal of mutual benefit, both of them asserting that love will have nothing to do with their arrangement - not realising that it'll sweep them off their feet nonetheless.
This story had an interesting premise and while the first half had a sluggish pace, the second half of the book picked up. There were lots of characters from previous books in the series and even though I've not read the previous books, I didn't struggle to keep up, though it would probably help if you're familiar with them. I liked Hema's character and the openness and honesty she showed but I thought that Vivek lacked a similar sense of strength. They had strong chemistry between them though and the attraction between them grew steadily. The setting of the cruise was great and added to the feel of the scenes nicely.
Firstly thank you for the ARC, I really enjoyed this book! I would decos give this 4/5 stars. To me the book really touched on a lot of heavy topics in the desi community, and how so many of our parents and family members have been though these situations themselves. It made me tear up near the end because of how real these situations are and how are parents could never do anything in their times to change anything🥺
The interactions between the MC and the LI were sooo cute!! I love the fact that any time the author could she would incorporate bits of Indian culture! The mentions of Bollywood dialogues, song & actors made my heart so full!!! I love it when books mention this type of stuff!!
The main character was my fave!! I love how she always went after what she wanted and was helping people, it was truly the type of representation I wanted as a desi girl. I wish that they had more of a slowburn romance and we had more interactions between them before they were engaged/while they were being introduced to each other so that as the reader we are more engrossed and ‘in love’ with the love interest.
Absolutely loved the cover of this book, and the story lived up to everything it promised. This is the first book I've read by Sophia Singh Sasson, but I will be looking out for more.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review..
Original and oh so cute mariage of equals. Some beautiful moments in the wedding and a glimpse into the emotions of a bruised soul and a brave optimist. Such a good read.
"Making A Marriage Deal" by Sohia Singh Sasson is a captivating novel that explores the complexities and challenges of arranged marriages in contemporary times and I absolutely loved it!
The book provides a unique perspective on arranged marriages and the cultural dynamics that often surround them. Through the perspective of both main leads I was able to fully understand and delve into the storyline and it took me a day to finish ready this book as I could not put it down!
The book is beautifully written and provides a nuanced portrayal of the many different emotions and conflicts that arise when a young person is forced to choose between their own desires and the expectations of their family and community.
Looking forward to reading more and definitely buying a physical copy!
This was definitely an interesting read. It was something totally unexpected but I still enjoyed it a bit. I liked reading their transformations from “strangers” to “lovers” but yeah, Vivek definitely annoyed me a bit. I guess in the end, he gets a successful character arc but I would’ve preferred to see him grovel. I’m so glad the author wrote a strong fmc tho! As a desi gal myself, I strongly dislike reading poc damsel in distress’ so it was definitely a pleasant read when it came to reading about Hema. I loved her passion for her career and her boldness. She was practical and was hurt a lot, but she still loved fiercely. I also loved how there were a few stereotypes broken and mended, but still a long way to go to both in real life and books. I think because how Vivek viewed the stereotypes of a traditional marriage made my prior attraction drop. But, LOVED Vikram!!(after HIS character arc) Thank god for the less idiot brother who was ready to kick some sense into his more of an idiot brother, but again, the grovelling should’ve been WAY more. Especially considering how quick the pace was, it made a few fight’s unnecessary in the bigger picture and left a few questions unanswered.
But, to end it off, I have to say, my screen was burning with their chemistry! It was super sensual and sweet at the same time so definitely enjoyed reading that. It was definitely a mix of good and the bad and I was really wishing to love it, so unexpected that I didn’t but not entirely upset either.
A contemporary marriage of convenience story full of emotion and passion set on a luxury wedding cruise and vibrant New York. Hema's first love is her medical career and the people her skills can help. She's suffered a broken heart, and when her father insists he will only support her medical residency in New York if she is married. Hema explores other options but is thwarted by bureaucracy. Marriage of convenience on her terms is her only solution, but the business arrangement she brokers with Vivek has unexpected emotional consequences for both parties.
It's an engaging read with a glamorous setting and gradual emotional commitment between Hema and Vivek. The conflicts are many, and most are in their minds, but the attraction is undeniable. I like the connection between Hema and Vivek, the cast of characters and the sensual romance.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
