This was a very interesting origin story of one of the most famous villains of fairytale literature. I found it to be very intriguing. It reminded me of Maleificient. There were times it was slow and then it was rushed. Still, it is a wonderful story that will appease fans of fairytales. I recommend this for fans of Marissa Meyer!

In 2019 my health started going down hill and I didn't take into consideration what that would mean for my book reviewing. Sadly, I've been trying to play catch up for years and it's been affecting my ability to keep up with present day tasks. So I greatly apologize for this but I am going to clear out all these older review books and focus on present day. I will come back and update this review if I end up reading the book, which is very possible as a lot of these books are still ones I would like to read, I just don't think the pressure looming over me is helpful. Thank you for giving me a chance to early read these books and I am so sorry I wasn't able to provide what was needed.

*Thank you netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.*
I love a retelling so it is no surprise that I enjoyed this one! This is a Maleficent retelling that incorporates elements from other fairytales. There were a number of elements here that I enjoyed. This is a dark, adult enemies to lovers story. I liked the characters and the spins the author incorporated from the original fairytale here. I like how she slowly becomes the villain that we know.
My biggest issue was that this book had some pacing issues. There were parts that were slow, while other parts felt too rushed. The characters developed feelings too quickly for me. There were interesting things about the world that we didn't see expanded on. I wish it had been a little longer.

A Sleeping Beauty retelling will always grab my attention and this one was a decent read.
Focusing on the Mistress of Evil aka Maleficent. This story gives an alternative version of where she came from and how she came to her reputation. While also adding additional elements from other fairytales it seemed like it was going to have it all.
While the story was there, the characters were good, the originality of this retelling was good, the pace however was not good. I struggled to not DNF this book as the book was so slow in the beginning that it was hard to become interested and want to keep with the book. Then the paces started to pick up which was good, but would still have moments where it seemed to slow back down a little.
Overall the book was good and is worth reading if you love Sleeping Beauty.

Myravelle spent years working for the King in order to keep her mother alive. She was the only one who could wake up the sleeping soldiers. Then Byzarien comes in to her life and her healing ability is affected. She falls for her "canvas" and her life is never the same. The king finds out about Myravelle's new canvas and he takes matter into his own hands with her mother. Myravelle receives a package with parts of her mother inside. She knows she is gone. And the monster inside of her comes alive. Myravelle begins to find out just who she really is.
This is my first book by Rosalyn Briar. It did take a little bit for me to get into but once I got it, I loved it. I love the back story of Sleeping Beauty. This was a sad but intriguing story based on the fairy tale. I would definitely like to read more by Briar and would encourage others who like fantasy and fairy Tales to read Her Dark Enchantments. Special thanks to NetGalley, Rosalyn Briar, and Quill and Crow Publishing House for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 4 stars for me. #HerDarkEnchantments #NetGalley

Her developments was a really good book. I found that the author was able to create a very rich, plot, and storyline between all the characters on the moving pieces in the book. I really enjoyed the twist on the classic tail of a river, sleeping beauty, and I enjoyed the way that the main female was kind of the villain in the book instead of the naïve princess.

Retelling are some of my all time favourite things to read among romance, so when the both are blended perfectly it creates such a wonderful read! I found the world building to be delightful and engaging! I do however think it could have been fine tuned a little more! But regardless it was a fun read!

Dark fantasy retellings are among my favourite subgenres, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of *Her Dark Enchantments* by Rosalyn Briar. This Sleeping Beauty/Wicked Fairy/Wicked Queen retelling hit all the right notes for me.
Myravelle, often misunderstood as a dark witch, is actually kind-hearted and generous. On the other hand, Byzarian, a soldier for the king, despises fairies and magic, especially Myravelle. The book features a gripping enemies-to-lovers dynamic, found family, betrayal, and plenty of spice. Fans of retellings will definitely enjoy *Her Dark Enchantments*.
Rosalyn Briar’s storytelling filled me with emotional and relational angst. Byzarian’s initial prejudice towards Myravelle was frustrating, but his eventual acceptance and love for her was worth the wait. The human king and fairy queen are angsty characters you’ll love to hate. Briar’s unique and eclectic retelling also delves into the backstories of the three fairies who raised Sleeping Beauty and the wicked fairy queen’s journey to finding her crow and building her staff.
However, the book does have some pacing issues and secondary character development could be stronger. The first half moved slower than necessary, while the second half felt rushed. The transition from enemies to lovers between the main characters happened too quickly for my taste. I also wished for more depth from the fairy queen and the god of nightmares and chaos.
Overall, *Her Dark Enchantments* is a compelling retelling that I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m looking forward to more from Rosalyn Briar and hope a sequel is in the works!

I thoroughly enjoy a well-crafted fairytale retelling, and this one, based on Sleeping Beauty, was an absolute delight. The worldbuilding is fantastic, the characters delightfully wicked, and the added elements truly set this retelling apart from others. Rosalyn's writing has a captivating quality that kept me engrossed from start to finish.

Usually I’m a huge fan of retellings and fairy tales. So when I saw this was supposed to be a Sleeping Beauty retelling, I couldn't say no. I did love how the author intertwines elements from different fairy tales (Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Rumpelstiltskin) into the story. It was a great idea and concept. But I had some issues with the execution, especially with the pacing. The first half of the novel was slow. While the second half was all over the place. It was fast one minute and then slow the next. Another issue was the characters. They were a bit one-dimensional. They never felt real.
Overall, I like the story. But the execution wasn't the best.

I will start by saying I wanted to love this book. I loved the premise, and the plot was excellent. I loved the characters and the first few pages really hook the reader.
However, I felt like the pacing was a little erratic, some parts felt so slow and I found myself skimming and then the next moment I'm racing through the pages wanting to know what's going to happen. Also I felt like very little was left to the imagination. There was so much telling and not showing I could not get into the book properly.
All in all, not a bad book, and I enjoyed the retelling, I just felt like the execution fell short.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for the copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am obsessed with fairytale retellings and this one doesn’t disappoint!

"Her Dark Enchantments" offers a fresh and captivating perspective on the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty, delving into the origins and motivations of the infamous villain. In this imaginative retelling, author Rosalyn Briar introduces readers to Myravelle Spinner, a young woman who grew up isolated in a tower, surrounded only by spiders and stone walls. As she grapples with her mother's refusal to teach her fairy magic, Myravelle's journey takes a dark turn when she becomes the healer for the king's Sleepy Wood Company, tasked with waking soldiers from a cursed slumber.
Haunted by her past and burdened by the weight of her powers, Myravelle finds herself bound to Byzarien Dumont, a man filled with bitterness and resentment towards fairies. Their tumultuous relationship is further complicated by threats to their families and the kingdom, forcing them to confront their deepest fears and learn to trust each other.
With its richly imagined world and complex characters, "Her Dark Enchantments" explores themes of love, redemption, and the consequences of dark magic. Myravelle's struggle to reconcile her past with her present, and Byzarien's journey towards forgiveness and understanding, provide a compelling backdrop to the story's gripping plot twists and turns.
As the lines between hero and villain blur, readers are drawn into a spellbinding tale of courage, sacrifice, and the power of redemption. [Author's Name] masterfully weaves together elements of fantasy, romance, and adventure to create a captivating narrative that will enchant readers from beginning to end. Fans of fairy tale retellings and dark fantasy will find much to love in this evocative and thought-provoking novel.

I remember really liking this book, I'm a sucker for retellings, it was okay and enjoyable. Thank you for the oportunity to read and review this book.

I love retellings, especially when it’s telling the story of the villain, but it was so slow and I felt like it was trying too hard to be something it wasn’t. Also, the characters didn’t interest me and they felt one dimensional, so I didn’t care about what happened to them. Sadly, I really wanted to like this one but unfortunately it wasn’t for me.

This books was a fun Sleeping Beauty retelling, and I'm an absolute sucker for a not-your-usual happy ending.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the book in exchange for an honest review. I think overall the book was okay. Some parts felt repetitive and the pacing a bit slow until the 2nd half of the book where everything was trying to get jammed in. I wish the author tried to even the pacing out as to not to feel too rushed towards the end. Overall, it was okay.

I’m so sorry, but I hated this book. It was badly written, dull, and had a lot of plot holes. In addition to the issues of the execution, there were problems with the pacing. The characters also lacked depth. They didn’t feel real to me, and it was hard to get immersed in this book.

This was a brilliantly formed, seductive fairytale retelling that I wasn’t sure what to expect from but I’m so glad I requested this and got to read it! The world building was good, the narration was spot on and the premise was very enjoyable. I liked the characters with plenty of goodies and baddies to choose from and how it all came together throughout. Ideal for anyone who loves fairytales and retelling that are a little sultry and imaginative but fun and enjoyable nonetheless!

“Once upon a time,” she whispered, “there was a girl of stars and a boy of scars. They burned one another in ways only true love can.”
This is one of the best retellings I have ever read and I truly thank the author for this arc!
These characters were so well developed and intricate that I was drawn in from the get go.
I could not stop reading this book after I started and I would recommend this to everyone.
