Tim Weaver’s The Last Goodbye is a masterfully crafted thriller that will captivate fans of the crime fiction genre. The twelfth installment in the David Raker series, it follows the seasoned missing persons investigator as he delves into two seemingly unrelated cases: the disappearance of a mother, Fiona Murphy, nearly four decades ago, and a recent vanishing act involving a father and son at a theme park. Weaver expertly intertwines these narratives, creating a complex web of intrigue that keeps readers on their toes.
The novel is lauded for its intricate plotting and well-developed characters. Weaver’s ability to weave multiple timelines and perspectives into a cohesive story is impressive, ensuring that even newcomers to the series can enjoy this book as a standalone read. The tension is palpable throughout, with each twist and turn adding layers to the mystery.
The Last Goodbye is an engaging read that combines emotional depth with relentless suspense, making it a must-read for both long-time fans and newcomers to Tim Weaver’s work.
Book 12 in the David Raker series- Wow what a brilliant read! Kept me gripped from the first page to the last , with a massive twist near the end !!
I first read a book by this author last year when it was a R&J pick, then I was lucky to go to an event for the author. The book I read was the one before this one in the series, and I am definitely going to read the entire series from start to finish
Part of a series featuring David Raker. Gritty and compelling this story draws you in from the start and keeps you intrigued to the end.
Another absolutely fantastic novel from Tim Weaver. Honestly I don't know how he comes up with these brilliantly twisted and compelling storylines but I'm always hooked!!
I love this series that features David Raker. You always know that this author will bring something special to each of his books in this series. His latest The Last Goodbye just blew me away. Richly descriptive and characters you feel as if you really know. Another MUST READ from this very talented author and a great addition to this gripping and very addictive series.
“The Last Goodbye” by Tim Weaver is the twelfth installment in the David Raker series, a gripping narrative that intertwines two seemingly unrelated disappearances across decades into a chilling mystery. The novel opens at the country’s newest theme park, where Tom Preacher and his son Leo queue for the ghost house. The CCTV captures them entering, but they never come out, and no one can explain their disappearance. In a parallel storyline, Rebekah Murphy has been haunted by the absence of her mother, who walked out when Rebekah was just five and never returned. Decades later, Rebekah enlists the help of David Raker, a missing persons investigator, to unravel the mystery of her mother’s sudden departure. As Raker delves deeper, he uncovers a web of lies that binds these two cases together. The narrative takes a dark turn as Raker encounters someone who is determined to keep the truth buried.
The dual timelines are skillfully woven together, culminating in a satisfying convergence that reveals the devastating secret at the heart of the disappearances. The novel is a labyrinth of twists and turns, and the theme park setting is evocative, serving as a metaphor for the illusions and facades that the characters navigate. “The Last Goodbye” is a thriller that succeeds on multiple levels. It is a detective story with a heart, a puzzle with depth, and a tale of human resilience in the face of the unknown.
Loved loved loved! I always love Tim weaver books and this one lived up to my expectations - fab book I couldn’t put it down!
There are plenty of twists and turns in this one. I found myself completely hooked and unsuccessful at trying to predict where this would go.
I was instantly hooked by this one. It’s one of those books that pulls you in instantly and becomes completely unputdownable.
II’ve literally devoured this in just one sitting with no regrets. This is an absolute must read.
Another triumph from the master of the missing persons mystery. What I like most about Weaver's novels is that I'm always kept on my toes and always enthralled from beginning to end.
This one really stumped me as I tried to slot the pieces together and I found myself biting my nails at more than one point.
A fantastic read! Although I somehow got confused and read his newest first, it didn't detract from the story.
Tim Weaver has once again delivered a well crafted thriller, full to the brim with twists.
There's loads happening in this latest David Raker story.
A boy and his father go into a ghost house, but don't come out.
A successful surgeon gets cards from her mother. Who went missing over 30 years ago.
And Rakers efforts to help a friend might just be his undoing.
A great series that I missed somehow for a long time. The beauty is whilst all linked they also work really well as standalones, too.
Thrilling and clever plots and a 'hero' you can really root for and relate to. Just brilliant.
Weaver knocked it out of the park again!
It's no surprise & at this point I don't expect any least. He is a auto buy author for me & I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment of Raker.
Well crafted, convincing characters & a seemly impossible disappearance take Raker on a wide ride.
I was gripped from the start & had to be prized away from when life got in the way ... When it didn't I gobbled it up & had a very late night but boy it was worth it!
Absolutely nailbiting storytelling, the tension pours off the page. This is the 12th in the Raker series - I have only recently started reading Tim Weaver's books so I have a host of exemplary crime fiction to keep me going.

⏩synopsis
I have read every book this author has written which includes all the books in the David Raker series and so far, never once have I been disappointed about any of aspect of them and this latest offing is no exception.
While they all follow a similar format, David and the missing persons mystery felt as fresh as ever; the investigation was well planned, plotted and delivered to perfection, David’s story continues to be interesting and addictive especially where Healy is involved. The multiple narrators/stories with short and sweet chapters really kept it interesting and gave the book a cracking pace. My only sadness is I haven’t got the next one to drive straight into…
With thanks to author #timweaver @netgalley and #michaeljbooks for allowing us to read this one.

Rebekah has been receiving cards that are supposed to be from her mum, but she has been gone since the mid-1980s. Rebekah instructs Raker, an ex-journalist to look into her mum's disappearance as the police only have it as a cold case.
The novel moves between the present and the past and focuses on a special exclusive club in London called the Castle run by an enigma and is seen through a few different points of view to add depth to the story, but mainly it focuses on Raker.
This is the first book following Raker that I have read. It can be read as a standalone, but it would benefit me and I liked it so would like to read some of the previous ones to see why he helped an ex-cop at some point in the past.
Plenty of twists in the book, most I didn't see coming, though I knew why a certain piece of equipment was required towards the end.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
'The Last Goodbye' is the first Tim Weaver I've read. It seems I would have benefited from some prior knowledge of previous plots, in order to have the full reading experience. It worked ok as a standalone, although the plot felt convoluted in places. It seems to be a big hit with Weaver's fans, so perhaps you'd be better starting at the beginning of the series.
This is a complex book that deserves your full attention. There are lots of characters and lots going on that gradually weave together.
This is the twelfth book in the David Raker series. It is a standalone, but it does follow up on some of the events in book 11, and Rebekah Murphy has featured in a previous story. While I haven’t read that book, everything you need to pick up the story is there. It will definitely make you want to go back and read the rest of the series.
The narrative jumps around between the past and the present. At first, it is hard to see how all the elements of the story are going to come together. It’s very twisty and clever and will definitely keep you reading until the very end. This is a long read but pacy and compelling.
I definitely want to read more of this series as the writing is fantastic.
Thank you to Netgalley for my gifted digital copy of The Last Goodbye.
In two seemingly separate investigations David Raker must keep his wits about him, with the police also on his trail. Tim Weaver weaves intricate plots in this excellent thriller, this series never flags each book is better than the one before.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a review copy.
This book kept me invested in the story with the great storytelling and excitement. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
David Raker finds people. It is something he is good at but it is not something that always makes him popular with the police. When Rebekah asks him to try & find her mother who left without warning many years ago he agrees. A father & son go into a fairground attraction & are never seen again. It seems to be a totally unconnected event but there are ties there somewhere. Meanwhile Raker's close friend Healy is in prison charged with faking his own death. The police are intent on getting him to admit Riker's part in his change of identity - will he manage to hold out?
This is a densely plotted tale with many ins & outs that I have come to expect from this series. It was an enjoyable read & hope that the ending is a hint of what is to follow. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
Another absolutely fantastic novel from Tim Weaver. Honestly I don't know how he comes up with these brilliantly twisted and compelling storylines but I'm always hooked and always in awe
David Raker, one of the best characters in fiction currently, once more finds himself embroiled in a case so mysterious it doesn't seem possible but of course it is and after devouring every page you'll see what's what.
The writing is as ever superb and honestly if you haven't read this series yet I honestly don't know what you are waiting for.
Highly Recommended. Don't hesitate.
