Please do not forget to start reading the book with the “Stay Safe” measures given at the very beginning of the book as it is quite related to its main contents.
This book is about rescuing all kinds of animals and how we can go about it for different animals. Here with this book, we are going to learn about basic tools required when we go out looking for animals to be rescued. We are going to learn about some basic life cycles, some basic facts about the habitats and some basic behaviour about some animals which we are likely to encounter.
This is a very basic book about very young readers but the book has provided its best considering the age group. I would say it’s well done! The illustrations are relevant and supplement their parts well.
The adult reading along will gain a quite out of it too!
Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group- Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, for the advance reading copy.
Perfect for any animal loving kid! This book is very educational, you learn all about a variety of animals - habitats, what they eat, safety tips, and more.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This one's a WINNER!
This top-notch story tells young readers how and why a young girl rescues animals. It's packed with keen observations, animal facts, and age-appropriate practical tips for protecting animals and the world we share.
Ava lives with her grandparents. They run an animal rescue center. Her grandfather is a veterinarian. Ava helps her grandmother prepare for a new arrival.
In anticipation of the new animal arrival, Ava and her grandmother take a walk to the pet store for supplies. Along the way they meet or discuss amphibians, reptiles, and a variety of mammals. They also discover and discuss fun facts about animals and identify different animal footprints, poop, how horses and donkeys are related, dogs with jobs, and animal groups such as carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. Examples of animals in each category are discussed. Also, ecosystems, food webs, habitats and homes. Vibrant, colorful illustrations complement the text.
When Ava and her grandmother get home, the new animal rescue has arrived. In fact, there’s more than one. The new residents are “small and fluffy, with long ears, huge feet, and cute, fluffy tails.”
The book ends urging readers to “get to know the animals that live near you” by looking for clues “like footprints and poop.” Then just be patient and wait.
Also included is a list of Stay Safe reminders when meeting animals both domestic and wild. Also how to be an animal hero and tips for protecting all animals and the world they live in.
This book is terrific! Ava Loves Rescuing Animals not only teaches young readers why and how to rescue and safely interact with animals, it also urges readers to be kind to animals and treat animal habitats and the environment with care and respect.
Readers ages four to seven and animal lovers of any age will enjoy this book. I LOVED it!
This was the perfect book for the animal lover in your life. My animal obsessed 4 year old has requested we buy a real copy!
I absolutely loved so many things about this book: I love that Ava lives with her grandparents, depicting that there are all sorts of family situations. The plethora of information about all sorts of animals is presented in a way that is easy for young children to understand (however, I wish the information was at the end so that it didn't detract from the storyline). It prompted so many conversations, It also had excellent reminders of asking adults for help.
This is an excellent book for the home bookshelf as well as in young classrooms!
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books, Happy Yak and NetGalley for this ARC!

Ava Loves Rescuing Animals was a very informative book, maybe even more so than I was bargaining for! Judging by the cover illustration and title I thought this would focus on the shelter where she lives with her grandparents and on animals they have there or how the shelter runs. Instead this turned into almost a first or second grade earth science book! While I still enjoyed the style and illustrations and it had great information, I still was a little put off by it being a different topic than I expected. I did really appreciate the safety tips throughout the book and reminders to always refer to a grownup and never approach animals alone or without permission. Very informative book on the animal kingdom but not so much a story about a girl at an animal shelter.
Ava Loves Rescuing Animals is a very informative book for kids who love animals. This book is full of fun illustrations and great information about many different topics related to animals. My son is very excited to go outside and look for animal prints and poop after reading this book!
Perfect for the animal loving children in anyone's life. This book was fun, inspirational and a perfect addition to a classroom or home library.
This is such a lovely book! It tells a great story about a girl who loves animals and is filled with well-written, important basic information to know about animals, their habitats, and how to respect them. I liked the information before and after the story as well. Also, it is beautifully illustrated and I think children would love the art, especially the little mouse! I appreciate that the book shows children of different ethnicities and even a kid with a hearing aid. I think this is a wonderful book and I would absolutely recommend it.
Ava's grandparents run an animal rescue center. We're brought along on Ava's exploration in and around the center and we learn about all different types of animals. This book was much more educational than I was expecting. It touches on animal footprints, animal groups, ecosystems, habitats, and so much more. My 3 and 5 year olds loved this book and I highly recommend it. The illustration was also excellent.
This would be a perfect book for the classroom!
