Shari never disappoints. You just know it's going to be gripping, thrilling and mindboggling from the first page. I had no idea what was gonna happen with this book, it shocked me at every turn. The only reason it isn't a 5 is the ending was a tad abrupt and I felt like another chapter would have just closed it off a bit better. Other than that, fantastic
Stanhope is a safe community but one day a nine year old girl, Avery Wooler, goes missing. It happens just hours after a fight with her father, the family man that has been having an affair that just ended horribly. As the story goes along we see a cast of supporting characters also hiding secrets, ones that begin to surface gradually, making you wonder which one is responsible for the disappearance.
This was another fabulous twisted mystery by the author! She always weaves such a suspenseful tale and I just flew through it. I can see this one being turned into a movie. It was just so entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK for this gifted copy.
This book is my first by the author and found it a page-turner! Unfortunately for me, the twists were not shocking enough give more than 3 stars. I figured out the twists on a high level, so it was a bit disappointing that I was right (because this is a thriller. For me it had to shock me!). Also the ending was abrupt. I’m sure it was intentional but I just found it dissatisfying. However, I enjoyed the first half of the book when the twists were not revealed. The story kept bringing in new leads for the missing child case and new characters who obviously hiding some secret or who made me suspicious of them. It was difficult to put it down.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Uk for an advance copy of “Everyone Here Is Lying “for an advance copy for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of Shari Lapena’s previous novels, and have recommended them to several library users.
So I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to have an advanced copy of this new book to give my opinions on, but unfortunately , for me, this wasn’t up to the usual high standard.
I disliked all of the characters, although to be fair ,as the title implies “ Everyone here is lying “.so that really fits in with the storyline. Even though Avery is supposed to have behavioural difficulties her character didn’t ring true to me for a 9 year old child..
I’m hoping the next book will be as good a read as I found her previous books to be.
Wow what a gem! How can a written review do this book justice?
My rambles will give it a go. I am in awe of Shari Lapena. This is a book that has delivered in every way and been completely unputdownable. I have devoured page after page in just one sitting.
In this book, we venture to a community with so many secrets. As a reader, we get to see these begin to come undone. Lapena has created a book with untrustworthy characters, suspense and an unpredictable plot.
I loved that we couldn’t trust any individual in this book. I have been constantly guessing to see if I could figure this one out. I have failed at every hurdle.
A missing child is a thing of nightmares. The community is shook by this fact. Avery is an intriguing character, very unlikeable and the vibes I’ve had about her have reminded me of Damian from the Omen. Lapena has gripped me with this one, I was pulled in from the very beginning.
I have adored this book and found myself craving more and more. My jaw has dropped at the twists on the pages and this is one that I highly recommend.
Lapena creates atmosphere and tension with this book. This is unlike anything I’ve read previously. This is a book which I will absolutely be shouting about. This is a must for everyone’s TBR.
Wow first book by this author and definitely won’t be my last. This was fantastic. Dr William Wooler has a loving family which includes his daughter Avery who is a bit difficult to deal with. When returning after a horrible day William finds Avery in the house when she should be at an after school activity they argue then he leaves. William then receives a call from his wife saying Avery is missing which sets out a chain of events that nobody is coming back from without there secrets spilled.
I was gripped from start to finish didn’t know who to trust or how it was going to end. Great thriller which I will definitely be recommending to everyone who loves a great thriller with lots of twists and turns.
Now here is something different. Something happens to Avery who is a very difficult nine year.
The storey takes us into the lies and drama's of many families and the reader is kept guessing through out the book.
Really enjoyable domestic drama.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Loved the suspense and a worthy five stars from me.
Superlative Whodunnit…
Stanhope, a nice safe neighbourhood where cloistered families live cloistered lives. Nothing bad happens there - or so they think, as one heck of a storm is brewing. William Wooler considers himself a family man but he is also a man keeping simmering secrets and he is not the only one. There are more secrets in this small, seemingly innocuous place than you can shake a stick at. With a cast of often unlikeable characters, red herrings aplenty, some fairly inept policing, taut plotting and a neatly done, perhaps unexpected, twist in the tale all making for a wholly entertaining, satisfying and immersive read. A superlative whodunnit once again from this very talented author who never, ever disappoints. A worthy addition to this authors’ canon.
This was an addictive thriller told from the multiple viewpoints of the family of a missing child, their neighbours and the police investigating it. I found this easy to follow even though it’s told from many perspectives and the characters were all brilliant from the distraught mum to the guilty dad with multiple secrets, his lover and their family and more and there’s so much suspicion amongst them about their own neighbours you can’t help wondering what the fallout would be like in the neighbourhood after! I was hooked on this for most although a little less so once I knew what had happened to the missing girl, that said I would have liked an extra chapter to deal with the fallout it ended quite abruptly on. Overall this is a fresh and pacy thriller with no shortage of secrets. 9/10
I read it but it wasn’t really my type of book unfortunately but I did finish it and I’m glad I did, I will red another one of her books and see as that’s only fair but not really my type
A married couple are having an affair. One of their children goes missing and they can't tell the truth about where they were or the affair will be exposed.
Not really a fan of this book Im afraid - I didnt really care what happened to the characters, none of them were particularly likeable (apart from maybe the missing girl's mum and brother) and felt the plot was a bit too repetitive with rumours being spread about everyone and anyone to deflect attention and blame. The story picked up a bit in the final third but I'd lost interest by then.
Not one I can recommend, sorry
I have really enjoyed most of the author's previous novels and was not disappointed by Everyone Here is Lying.
9 year old Avery Wooler disappears one afternoon after school, the last person to see her was her father William although he doesn't admit this to the police. Soon, the town of Stanhope no longer feels safe when so many residents are under suspicion for the abduction of Avery.
I was absolutely gripped by this twisty novel, the author excels at this type of thriller set in small neighbourhoods where there are so many secrets and she really brought the characters to life here.
A compelling read that I'd recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Thanks a mil to Netgalley.co.uk and the author Shari Lapena for the chance to read 'Everyone here is Lying' prior to its publication date 20th July 2023 in exchange for an honest review.
Shari is one of my favourite thriller authors so I was delighted to be approved this one and couldnt wait to get stuck in.
She is the queen of the one sit reads and I just know when I start one of her books nothing else will get done until its read.
'Everyone here is Lying' is a fast paced suspenseful thriller that will have you gripped to the story from the opening pages. I just had to keep turning the pages and I just couldnt put it down till I found out what happened.
A missing child, Avery, 9 years old and just so many possible suspects - my head was spinning reading it and wondering whodunnit. So many possible suspects I never knew who could be trusted and WOW that sinister twist near the end I most certainly did not see coming. This one will definately have you guessing till the last few chapters.
I really enjoyed this dark tale. The plot was great and the characters were so well written, it was easy to believe the worst of each and every one of them. The book had short chapters and was intense and fast paced throughout - my fav kind of read.
The ending was perfect. It was so smooth and rounded everything off perfectly. I dont think she could have ended it any better.
Shari remains up there as one of my fav psychological thriller authors! I have read and loved every single book she has ever written and will be keeping an ear out for her next release for sure. If you're looking for a grippy whodunnit then look no further as this is the book for you.
100% recommend it.

I absolutely love this Authors books and you know will be adictive from the first chapter. William is married to Erin they have two children a daughter Avery and a son Michael who is the eldest .Avery has behaviour problems and her brother gets frustrated as he is always feels neglected buy his parents. William gets so frustrated with Avery and sometimes loses his temper. Michael always walks Avery back home from school but today she is not there she was disruptive in class they sent her home. Michael panicks when he gets home she not there Erin calls the police.and a lot of secrets come out. the consequences of people's actions causes a chain of events. where is Avery. this book is so twisty and a few shocks on the way a very addictive read
i absolutely love shari lapena books and this book did not disappoint me at all. i did knock off one star because i did struggle a little bit with getting through the book at the 25-50% mark, but as soon as i got past that section, i was flying through the book.
my attention was grabbed right form the start of the book and while i found a little bit of a lag in the section i mentioned previously, you are always hit with such incredible twists and turns in the story. this book is so fast paced and crazy and you are questioning everything and everyone. this is what shari lapena does best in their books. i thought that some things would happen in the book, but then i was proved completely wrong and the book went in a completely opposite direction.
the amount of power that avery has at nine years old is outstanding. the world is like her puppet show and she is the master of the game. i personally really loved the ending of the story and would be interesting on seeing how others reacted to that. i honestly think that a sequel could be made from the ending of this book.
trust me, when you start reading this book, nothing that you expect will happen. this is my favourite lapena book so far.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of Shari Lapena’s books but I think this may be my favourite so far. I devoured it in two days which is fast for me! This is every parents worst nightmare, your child is missing and you have no idea if you’ll ever see them again. I have a daughter the same age as the missing Avery so this really hit hard. I think the characters and their reactions were well written and believable and I’d quite like to see a sequel!
Thank you Netgalley and Random House for this ARC.
Shari Lapena is one of those authors who is generally reliable and a 'you-know-what-you're-getting' author.
Here, William Wooler returns home after being dumped by his mistress. Angry and frustrated at the end of his affair, he comes across his 'troubled' 9 year old, Avery, who has been sent home from school (again!). After some backchat, William slaps Avery who then subsequently goes missing.
This type of plot (domestic/neighbourhood/suspense) is typical Lapena who handles it well as usual. There are a number of red herrings and a number of potential suspects/scenarios which will keep the reader guessing. The only thing stopping a four star review was the ending in which just didn't work for me. Will be really interested to hear what others think of it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers, Bantam for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Wow! Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. William Wooler's lover ends their affair and he returns home all upset and angry. When he gets home, he sees his daughter is there alone. She was kicked out of choir practice again. William has had enough of his daughter's bad attitude and slaps her so hard she falls to the floor. Then he leaves the house. Later, his daughter is missing. What happened to her? Who has her? Is she alive? Did one of the neighbor boys kidnap her? Did william's lover's husband kidnap her to get revenge. You will not believe how this story ends!
Wow! What a book! I think this might even be my favourite read this year, and I read a lot.
It really is the perfect domestic thriller. It’s beautifully written, has lots of intriguing characters, plenty of twists and a wonderful ending.
I started this book yesterday and had it finished in 24 hours, as I just couldn’t put it down.
I can’t recommend this book enough, and will do to anyone.
