I liked the idea behind the novel and the execution of that idea was impressive. The writing style was simple and effective and the overall flow of the story felt very smooth. I read this book in one sitting. as I really wanted to get to the end to see if I guessed the mystery was right. It was a good book !! This book was definitely a mind game thriller! It had suspense, intrigue, and a sort of who done it!
I’ve read and loved Ruth’s previous books so was delighted to be approved by NetGalley to read this!
This was an adrenaline ride of a book, starting with a married couple pairing up to break into a company, with Gabe manning the monitors and earpiece whilst Jack (Jacintha) is on foot, following instructions in order to achieve her end goal.
Mission over, Jack is out on foot and heading home when she is confronted by security,…before her night takes an even more nightmarish turn.
A fast paced thriller, this one kept me guessing. I don’t know much about the world in which Jack works and operates so can only imagine the level of research that went into this book. It’s worlds away from The It Girl but I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.
This is a compelling novel. As the title suggests, it is structured by reference to time and chapters offer a kind of countdown. But we don’t know what we are counting down towards.
The opening chapters are masterfully handled and there are some key twists before the main plot begins.
The story is a fascinating puzzle presented from an intriguing point of view. Jack is being framed for the murder of her husband and everything is pointing in the same direction until she takes matters into her own hands.
This novel has its roots in the digital world. It highlights how deception and tracking have become so much easier. As Jack tries to separate friend from foe, she is trapped by the very technology she needs to help her. And then there is the dark web, less familiar to her than it was to her husband, but she is going to need it to help her survive.
It’s a thrilling read with a memorable ending - a worthy addition to Ruth Ware’s catalogue.
She has only gone and done it again! What a book.
A unique, intriguing and beautifully written thriller. I couldn’t put it down.
Ruth Ware is one of the best thriller writers at the moment and seems to get better with each new book she brings out.
A big fat 5 star read and one I’d strongly recommend!
Ruth aware strikes it out of the ballpark with this incredible thriller, reminiscent of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The surprising death of her husband throws the heroine on a wild journey of learning the truth about the man she loved. So good!
