A beautiful pocket-sized rendition of the infamous work.
There have to be tens of thousands of copies of Sun Tzu's The Art of War in print. Once you start looking at editions and texts it can become disorienting- Fortunately, Amber Books' bilingual edition is clear, concise, modernized and true to the original translation.
Not only is it a quick colorful read with several pictures throughout (it is printed on what I would call a thick magazine paper) but reading the Chinese alongside the English would act as a 'No Fear' version for anyone attempting to learn either language.
Not only that but it takes each strategy and pairs it with a contemporary example of how the strategy has been utilizied (successfully or un) to help keep the concepts relatable. I am glad that this was my first edition chosen and would highly recommend getting a physical over digital copy if you are at all interested.
[Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books for a free copy of this read in exchange for an honest review.]
A quick and interesting read. A lot of the things talked about in "The Art of War" is still applicable.
This is a classic book with interesting cases of Chinese wisdom applied to strategy. When you read this type of books, you may have a dual view on different situations and reflect on business strategy as battle field. To win a battle is one thing, to win a war is a completly different scenario. Strategic wisdom will always be ahead of tactics and actions.
A very good English translation of the original text, with thought put into the best phase to be used when a direct translation wasn’t possible. The additional chapters in historical battles that either did or didn’t follow the advice of Sunzu was informative also
