Absolutely fantastic, full of suspense and great characters. As you turn each page, you’ll keep trying to figure out what will happen next. Impossible to not want more by this author.

A mystery with a difference, this book offers something for fans of both police procedurals and supernatural thrillers. Some really clever ideas are woven into what could have been a fairly stock crime to make something special. The author writes very well and has created some very appealing characters.

Firstly, this novel was my introduction to Caroline Mitchell as an author. Wow! What a ride. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I always appreciate when an author can keep me guessing and the plot is not easily figured out half way through the book. I didn’t initially realize that this was the 3rd in the series but I wasn’t lost in reading this as a stand alone. I definitely want to check out the others in this series.

This is the third book in the series which I didn’t realise but it worked well as a standalone.
Slayton has just had a had a flock of crows fall from the sky and die in the lake.
The council are busy dredging when they find a pram with the remains of a baby at the bottom.
It has a bit too much supernatural for me. I prefer a straight forward police procedural such as the authors Amy Winter series.

Jaw droppingly horrific. The backstory to this gave me actual nightmares. A solid plot with well done characters and many twists and turns. This was a great stay up all night page turner. Very dark and oozing with malice at every turn. Fear grips you from the start and holds tight till the end. Suspense galore. A must read if you want to not be able to sleep.

This is one of Caroline Mitchell's many works that I've read, and one thing about her that I admire is that she isn't afraid to dig into the nitty-gritty aspects of crime. This book was complex and horrific, with strange characters, many points of view, and twists and turns that kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. While putting the pieces of the mystery, suspenseful puzzle together, the writing style makes for a simple and exciting read. Those who enjoyed Erin Kelly's The Skeleton Key or who prefer crime fiction should read this.

This one is a little strange but an excellent addition to the series. Cora was a complex character that had me invested. Sarah is dogged in her pursuit of truth. Little Elliott is one of my favorite characters. The mystery is intense and kept me guessing. Another good read.

Another creepy and thrilling story mixing horror and mystery. I think this is the best one so far and it kept me on the edge and turning pages till the end.
There may be a logical explanation or it's paranormal, you wonder while reading and having fun.
Caroline Mitchell deliver and I strongly recomend this story. It can be read as a stand alone but it's better if you read the previous story in this series.

I didn't realize this was part of a series. My mistake, not netgalley or the publisher. I normally look before I request so I don't start a series I've never read. This was also the first I've read by this author. Honestly, I had a really hard time getting into it, but again, my fault and nothing against the author. I prefer knowing the backstory and seeing the character development as I read a series. It helps a lot with the story. I will revisit this again in the future.

Caroline Mitchell really knows how to put the chills into her stories by kicking off with a creepy poem!! Love it!! It totally sets the ambience for The Bone House and its chilling tale.

And she doesn’t stop with a creepy poem. Crows falling from the sky.. what the actual??! Crowpocalpyse as Richie calls it! Only in Slayton! Bejeezus!!! That’s a bit Hitchcock gone wrong!! What next? Yup a baby in a pram with rocks tied to weight it…. Now that is a chilling crime to solve!!

I got so frustrated for Cora. The mum in me wanted to help her and keep her baby safe. The world was totally against this mum, surely everyone deserves a second chance??! Even Sarah at points annoyed me with her attitude to this vulnerable woman.

Just to make myself clear, The Bone House is seriously chilling. Mitchell has upped the heebie jeebie factor! I loved my third trip to Slayton and I really hope to be going back before long!

Another fabulous gripping read from Caroline, I am really enjoying this series. It kept me reading into the early hours.

This book was great. I liked that it was fast paced and it kept me guessing until the end.

Sarah Noble is a cop with a traumatic past. When a whole bunch of birds fall from the sky and into a lake, the lake is dredged and the body of a baby is found. Sarah attempts to uncover what happened to this poor little lamb. An unlikely person says the baby is theirs but they, too, have a traumatic past.

The book has a pretty creepy vibe that had me on edge for most of it. I wasn't sure if there was going to be a full on supernatural aspect or witchcraft or myths and legends. It was awesome. I could picture just how creepy the town was and just how creepy the bunker would have been, especially for a young girl.

I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a good mystery with a creepy side.

This is book 3 of the Slayton thriller series although this is my first read. As usual it helps to have read the previous books but this read well as a stand-alone. Detective Sarah Noble is back at work following a tragic event in her life and is handed a cold case as everyone else is busy. Following a freak happening when a flock of birds fell dead into the lake in Slayton the body of a baby is found in a pram, when the lake is dredged.

Briefly, with the help of Elliott Carter, a young boy who has premonitions, and forensic anthropologist Sophia Hudson, Sarah quickly learns that the mother Cory is still living in Slayton and now has another child. Cory has previously admitted guilt to the death of her baby but there is clearly more to the story and Sarah starts to uncover a story of horror and abuse. The results of her investigations could prove deadly for both women.

Well written crime thriller with a hint of the paranormal. The bone house is quite graphically drawn and reminded me of an ossuary I visited in Germany, a chilling experience. Steady paced thriller with a few shocking moments, twists and turns that kept me gripped and the killer hidden from my prying eyes. A good crime novel with an original plot made this an enjoyable read.

This is such a great creepy series. The scene setting is done so well and you can really picture Slayton and feel how eerie it is. The creepiness of the town definitely adds to the suspense of the crimes. I also love seeing more of the recurring characters. It was nice to see Sarah seem more sure of herself in this book and a certain development in her personal life was adorable. The case of the baby bones was heartbreaking and it just got sadder the more information was uncovered. It was written so well though. I also wasn’t expecting anything about that ending. My only criticism was the ending felt a bit rushed and it was all wrapped up so quickly. I also struggle with the obsession with Elsie’s weight and how it feels like people respect her more now that she’s losing weight. Her character is lovable and interesting without her weight constantly being mentioned.

A very creepy continuation of The Slayton Mysteries series. Hundreds of birds fall into Slayton Lake which results in the lake being dredged which in turn leads to a gruesome discovery when the bones of a newborn baby are found strapped into a pram. Was it an accident that never came to light or something more sinister? It is up to Detective Sarah Noble to investigate a case that goes back years. I loved this bone-chilling story, which is very worthy of 5*

I had never read any Caroline Mitchell books, so I was pleased to get an arc of The Bone House. I put off reading it for 3 or 4 weeks as I had a lot of other books to read. However when I started to read, I was hooked! I really enjoyed the story. It takes place in the quiet town of Slayton. A lot of crows fell dead into the lake. I wonder if the fact that a group of crows is called a murder of crows, was deliberately chosen? The lake had to be dredged and a pram with the skeleton of a baby was discovered. The mother of the baby confesses to its murder, but was she the guilty party? The police become involved and the life of Cora, the mother, is exposed. And so the story progresses.
I would definitely read another book by Caroline, having read this one. This one is actually number 3 in the series.

The Bone House by Caroline Mitchell is the latest addition to the Detective Sergeant Sarah Noble series and is as creepy and thrilling as its predecessors. Once again, Slayton finds itself at the centre of weird goings-on, and I was excited to be back with these familiar characters. However, I must admit I had forgotten how morose Sarah Noble can be.
Overall, I was enjoying the book, but the conclusion of the investigation let me down; it felt very anti-climatic. Sarah goes to a house because she had seen them collecting from a PO Box, which was a very thin thread to follow, and it didn't live up to the expectations that the previous twists and turns had set.
The resolution felt rushed as if the author was just trying to get it over and done with so that they could get back to the drama of the main characters. The ending itself was dragged out, tying up loose ends for Sarah and her friends. This was a very disappointing end to what had been a great read and didn't deliver the same level of excitement and satisfaction as the rest of the book.
However, despite the underwhelming ending, The Bone House is still a gripping read for the most part, and it was a good follow-on to the previous books in the series. It is well-written and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
