Hilarious, uplifting and irresistible, Better Off Wed is the latest charmer by rom-com queen Portia Macintosh.
Olivia was shocked to her very core when her boyfriend Teddy proposed out of the blue. They don’t even live together, so to say that this proposal has Olivia picking her jaw off the floor is an understatement. Olivia has always said that if she ever gets married, then she wants the ceremony to be held in a gorgeous venue on the Cornish coast that her grandfather had built. Olivia is delighted when the venue tells them that they have a space for her and Teddy – the only problem is that the date they have available for them is only weeks away!
Although Olivia isn’t so sure about getting married so hastily, Teddy jumps at the chance at bringing the wedding forward. Swept away in a whirlwind of wedding planning, confetti and cake, Olivia cannot shake off this feeling of apprehension in the pit of her stomach. Why is Teddy in such a rush? Why does he want to get married so quickly? Are they getting married for the right reasons? Or could Teddy have an ulterior motive in wanting to get hitched in a matter of weeks?
With Teddy not getting involved in the wedding prep, Olivia finds herself getting help from a very unexpected quarter which makes her wonder whether she had been looking for happiness in all the wrong places…
Portia Macintosh’s side-splittingly funny romantic comedies are in a class of their own and she hits all the right notes with Better Off Wed. A terrific read that is absolutely impossible not to devour in a single sitting, Better Off Wed is a brilliant page-turner by Portia Macintosh sure to appeal to Sophie Kinsella and Emily Henry fans.
Portia MacIntosh writes wonderful books with so many different storylines. This was one of the best ones I've read so far and look forward to more!
𝙒𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚?
𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐰𝐞𝐝 is the second book by Portia MacIntosh that I've read and I found it cute but not at the same level as 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑟 𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑒?, which I loved.
It’s a romance novel with the following tropes:
🤍 small town
🤍 friends to lovers
🤍 no spice
Liv has received a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Teddy. After breaking the news to her family, she decides to carry on the tradition and get married at Portia Sands.
The problem? Her brother and his fiancée also aspire to get married there but only one date is available before it closes. So Liv will have to deal with a double wedding.
But when doubts about her relationship with Teddy begin to surface, will she be able to accept what her heart is telling her?
My favorite thing about this book?
The protagonist. I loved her, she made me smile the whole time!
The problem was getting into the story because I found the beginning a bit slow.
Despite this, there are many captivating situations: the competition to win a free photographer for the wedding, Eden's unspeakable secret and much more!
However, it’s a little bit predictable but the love story is really sweet tho.
It’s certainly suitable for those who don't like spice and is the perfect read for the summer.

🤍 small town
🤍 friends to lovers
🤍 no spice
Better Off Wed by Portia MacIntosh is a charming and hilarious romp through the chaos of sudden wedding plans. Olivia is caught off guard when her boyfriend, Teddy, unexpectedly proposes and insists on a quick wedding at her dream venue on the Cornish coast. As Olivia dives into frantic preparations, doubts creep in about Teddy's eagerness and lack of involvement. MacIntosh masterfully blends humor with heartfelt moments, creating a relatable story about love, commitment, and self-discovery. Fans of romantic comedies will adore Olivia's journey and the unexpected twists that keep the pages turning. This book is sure to leave you smiling.
While this was an enjoyable read it felt a little predictable. The characters were one dimensional and I wasn't very engaged with their story. Olivia was too much of a pushover and I just wanted to scream at her to wake up and see what was going on.
This was an entertaining and enjoyable read it could have been more.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Well, one thing this book taught me is to not rush into wedding planning and to not accept a proposal from your boyfriend who doesn't care about you. It also doesn’t help that the FMC is a huge doormat and I can’t stand stories where the lead is such a pushover. It makes me want to knock some sense into them and tell them to stop being dumb.
Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy of this book. I like this author’s style of writing and her sense of humour. Even though I did not find this book as funny as other books I have read by her, it was an enjoyable read nonetheless and I will read more by her.
Better Off Wed had some cute and funny moments, but the characters drove me a little mad. The female lead was too much of a doormat and I just didn't feel the growth in her like I hoped. Plus, the story was somewhat predictable with an ending I didn't love. I heard the author's other books are great, so I will definitely give her another go since I'm a sucker for British romcoms.
Olivia is surprised but excited when her boyfriend Ted proposes until he expects her to organize everything while he dissappears. A brilliantly funny romantic comedy from the queen of romance Portia.
Another good read
Perfect book to curl up with and to get lost in
Will have you hooked from the first page
Thanks NetGalley
A great book, light-hearted and fun to read.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Portia is my go to author as I know everything she writes is brilliant. Another fabulous book. Have recommended to all I know.
This book released some really mixed feelings!
It is very well written, and I am really enjoying this author’s novels. Characters are well written and interactions are good between them.
The plot itself is rather predictable, despite being well executed. There is nothing earth crashingly new about it - but it is an enjoyable read. I found the ending rather hurried too.
Enjoyable, but not this author at her finest.
I've got mixed feelings about this book. Let's start with the things that bugged me. Olivia's naiveté and dependency on others grated on me, especially her unwavering trust in everyone. Besides Olivia's character issues, the plot felt predictable from the get-go. It's clear the couple isn't right for each other, yet they're set on marrying. If I had any wedding plans before, this book made me reconsider.
On the plus side, it was an enjoyable read, despite being stress-inducing. There was a satisfying plot twist and final conflict that caught me off guard, adding a welcome twist to the story. Overall, a quick, cute romcom.
This is the story of Olivia and Teddy, which is told over the course of 37 Chapters. This is a brilliant story and is a friends to lovers rom com. Which if you are a fan of Portia MacIntosh than you know how amazing she is at these.
This book starts off interesting and full of giggle moments. This theme continues and expands throughout the rest of the book. However those giggle moments change into laugh out loud moments that keeps the reader entertained.
So this maybe a story that takes the reader a while to get into however once you are in the full swing readers won't be able to put this book down. Readers will soon find themselves flying through the pages until they have devoured the entire book.
Overall this is a brilliant romcom with a main character who slowly comes into her own and discovers what she really wants. Though this may be different to what she originally though she wanted.
A fantastic read. Light hearted and frothy with a big splodge of romance. Thoroughly enjoyable! The characters are funny and engaging and the whole story is a hoot from start to finish. Really loved this book!
Thank you Netgalley

"I voluntarily read and reviewed the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
If you like a lot of spice and action in your romance books, this probably isn't for you, but I loved it.
Olivia's boyfriend Teddy proposes out of nowhere, and she decides to just go along with it. The problem? The venue her entire family has been married at is closing, and there's only one date left... in a month. As Olivia scrambles to last-minute wedding plan along with her soon-to-be sister-in-law (did I mention it's a joint wedding so as to ensure both Olivia and her brother can get married at the venue?), she starts having doubts about how right her and her fiance are for each other.
Charming and well-written, very classic Portia MacIntosh. Would recommend!!
A lovely fun and amusing read. This would be a perfect summer read. Main characters were great. Would recommend
