I wish more books were this well written. Characters were witty and the setting fantastic.

This book has three things I like in a novel: It is set in Australia, it was a wlw story line, and it is a cozy mystery! While I liked it, I didn't love it. There was something about the characters that I just didn't connect with. Nevertheless, a friend of mine read it and liked it.

I’m not going to lie, I found it hard to read this book maybe it was cause of the characters. The writing is well done but some actions that the MCs chose were questionable and not the way I would have gone about things. I think that others would enjoy this book but I personally just couldn’t like the characters all too much.

This book is a delight to read. It’s witty, quirky, humorous, and engaging with two fantastic main characters who are so opposite that together they just fit. When these two women put their heads together to solve a mystery their worlds will never be the same. I enjoyed every moment of this one of a kind book!

Oh what fun. A murder mystery in the small coastal town of Port Bannir, Australia. Bess Campbell is living off grid in a tiny house and working at an eclectic popular museum call The Cabinet of Curiosities. The other museum in town in the local maritime museum run and curated by Margaret Gale. She is an ice-queen that no one crosses. When Bess’s boss Leon Powell, the eccentric owner of the Curiosities museum ends up dead, eyes are turning towards Margaret. Bess and Margaret team up together to figure out who wants to frame Margaret.

This includes clever writing, dry wit and plenty of twists and turns. It is a small town and of course everyone knows everyones movements and history. I enjoyed the Australian setting too. I’d say this is 85 percent mystery 15 percent romance and I like how the two woman come together following the clues. And true to Margaret’s ice queen ways feelings and emotions are never discussed.

I recommend if you enjoy mysteries with a smidge of sapphic romance. Thank you to NetGalley and Ylva Publishing for an ARC in exchange for a review.

This book kept my attention throughout. It is a mystery story more than a romance. Margaret and Bess are curators of two entirely different types of museum. One a rather staid and historically accurate maritime museum and the other quirky and not exactly factual in all its artefacts (e.g. a suit made of labels from other suits; an alien autopsy). A murder is committed and the two women become involved in trying to solve it. Both have secrets, one more so than the other. The apparently likeable first victim turns out to have quite a few people who may wish to get rid of him so there are a few suspects. Margaret however tops the list. This is an enjoyable and at times quite humorous book. Some of the author’s little ditties concerning Margaret’s attitude are quite entertaining.
I am now going to read the sequel “A Curious Visit”.
