Anna (mother) and Charlotte (new wife) just don’t get on and Ethan is right in the middle, trying to keep the peace. This had the makings of a good yarn if only someone had edited or proofread it first. I’ve never come across a single book that is as awful as this one for bad, very bad grammar and endless use of wrong words which made no sense at all. There was repetition and changes to what had already been said earlier. The characters were caricatures, the plot predictable. The only good thing was the cover, I liked that!

I liked the way it was separated into three parts Beacause, the first part, creates the tension between the characters, the second part, is where it really starts and the third part, is where it ends.

The plot, the writing was so good, I could feel the tension through my kindle.

I spent the majority of my time while reading His Mother’s Lies attempting not to feel contempt and annoyance towards Anna.

The story is told through three different perspectives: Charlotte’s, Anna’s, and Ethan’s. Charlotte begins to notice how controlling Anna is, particularly when it comes to the relationship she has with her son, while Anna thinks that Charlotte is a major threat and doesn’t think she’s a suitable match for Ethan. Ethan seems pretty clueless. He thinks that there is no contention, having complete trust in his mom and her intentions. He is constantly caught in the middle, having to defend the two women he loves from one other.

Little by little, ulterior motives begin to show. Anna wants the couple to move in with her because she’s convinced her son belongs with her at home, and she will stop at nothing to have him all to herself. Even if that means sabotage. There was one particular scenario where I had a strong feeling Anna was doing something to Charlotte to ultimately harm her, but Anna even had me second guessing! A lot of mind games and trickery are constantly afoot, which made it super suspenseful.

I was surprised by the family secrets. There wasn’t much leading up to that revelation, so it dropped like a huge bomb! I felt like the ending was pretty fitting to the scenario that leads up to it, and much like Charlotte and Ethan, the feelings I experienced about it felt pretty justified. A thrilling time!

Well this gives new meaning to the term monster in law! A very good suspenseful tension filled book that kept me turning pages eager to find out what happens next. I liked the way the story was told from three points of view that flowed nicely to keep the tension high. This was my first JA Andrews's book and I'm definitely wanting to check out some others.

J. A. Andrews' "His Mother's Lies" is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that delves deep into the intricate and often tumultuous relationships between mothers and sons, and the profound impact these relationships can have on romantic partnerships.

The narrative unfolds through the perspective of the protagonist, Charlotte, who enters into a marriage with Ethan, only to discover that his mother, Anna, is a master of manipulation and control. As Charlotte grapples with the complexities of her new family dynamic, she unravels a tangled web of deceit and hidden truths that not only threaten her marriage but also challenge her sense of self.

Andrews displays remarkable skill in crafting a psychological suspense narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page. The character development is nothing short of superb, with each character brought to life in a way that showcases their multidimensionality and flaws. Charlotte emerges as a deeply sympathetic and relatable protagonist, while Anna embodies a chilling and conniving antagonist who leaves an indelible mark.

The novel touches on universal themes that will strike a chord with anyone who has grappled with challenging family relationships or felt ensnared by their own past. Andrews approaches these themes with sensitivity and nuance, crafting a work that is both enthralling and contemplative.

In summary, "His Mother's Lies" is a must-read for enthusiasts of psychological thrillers and domestic dramas. Andrews' skillful prose and compelling plot make it a book that is difficult to put down and even harder to forget. This novel is highly recommended for its ability to grip readers and provoke deep reflection on the complexities of family dynamics.

This is one of those popcorn slow burning suspense stories about a bad mother in law that quite frankly I can't get enough of.

Charlotte marries Ethan. To save money for their first house, they move in temporarily with Ethan's mother Anna. A game of cat and mouse ensues.

Very fun, recommend!

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

I enjoyed this book but also felt quite frustrated with the characters, the mother was quite disturbed but the son was very gullible. I would be interested to read another book by this author!!!

Ah, the kooky MIL story. Charlotte, her husband Ethan, and MIL Anna are shacking up in MIL's home when they decide to move. This causes some crazy shenanigans as Anna goes from typical MIL to completely unhinged. Everything culminates in a crazy reveal at the end that I definitely didn't see coming! A fun twisty read.

Ahhhh i love a good (mother)monster-in-law story! And my goodness was this a good one. That woman was EVIL I enjoyed the descriptive writing and the tension was written well too. The twists were really good, although i did guess a few.
I couldn't decide how to feel about Ethan and Charlotte.. i feel they need some serious therapy. The story did feel a little slow at times, but not in a boring way. It seemed right. I also really enjoyed the ending!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Charlotte and Ethan have just got married. Unfortunately their landlord has evicted them and to save for a mortgage they move in with Ethan’s mum Anna. Anna is the mother in law from hell, thinking Charlotte has stolen her little boy.

The three main characters were not likeable. Charlotte was spoiled and needed to grow a backbone. Ethan was a bit of a pathetic mummy’s boy and Anna was a stereotypical evil mother in law. I disliked all three immensely and I think that goes to show how how well written they were.

This wasn’t my favourite book. Slow to start and for plot twists to actually happen. A bit predictable too. Still worth a read.

First off WOAH!!! Need more by this author. This was a shocking story filled with characters that make you feel so many emotions about. One I loved, one I hated, and one I just wanted to strangle. This book made me grateful that I have a wonderful MIL. I give Charlotte tons of credit for what she puts up with. If she was a real life person going through this I would give her a medal, because I just couldn't deal with what she continuously did.
