I really enjoyed this book. How it got me going to and from Anna to Charlotte was like a roller-coaster.
There was a couple of spelling and grammer errors so these would need to be addressed before publication. An example on page 145 with excited/exited.
This is a well written and grabbed me from the first chapter. The twist and turns ensured I devoured this book.
Highly recommend.
3.5 rounded up
Didn't care for any of the characters, not a likeable person in the bunch. Thus is a slow burn, until it turns into a fast paced thriller.
If you think your Mother in Law is horrible, read this book. Anna is the epitome of a truly sinister Mother in Law, and I'm sure whomever you're imagining, Anna is much worse.
Written from the triple POV of Anna: the Evil MIL, Ethan: the son, and Charlotte: his bride, and broken into three parts, the author did a great job of making the reader aware of the tension between this trio. From the manipulation, deceit, lies and creating unreliable narrators, His Mothers Lies is a thriller lovers book.
Despite what I felt was a slow start in Part 1, looking back I understand it was to really grow the tension and character build the sheer evil that is Anna. Where some parts were predictable, the big twist definitely was not! Overall it was a quick & easy, suspenseful read.
Thank you to NetGallery for this ARC.
This was a very riveting book. I really enjoyed the characters and storyline. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy. Looking forward to more from this author..
I was kindly sent this ARC by NetGalley and I am lucky to have done so.
This book was INTENSE a really good mother in law thriller! Such a great story and was terrifying at the same time.
I wouldnt want a mother in law like Anna
I enjoyed reading this book very much, it has plenty of twists and turns throughout. A brilliant page turner with a exciting ending. The characters were great, the plot itself was excellent and the style of writing was perfect. This is the first book that I have read by this author, ill be keeping my eye out for more in the future.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
Woah, what did I just read?
Lots of people think they have a monster-in-law, but I don’t think any can compare to Anna.
Charlotte feels that her mother in law hates her and doesn’t want her to be with Ethan. What lengths will she go to make this happen? I felt so sorry for Charlotte, I could feel her pain and confusion.
I really enjoyed reading this one, it was suspenseful and well written.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read and review this one.
Not really for me.A mother who wants no one else to have her son and turns out to be a bit of a psychopath.
I read this book over a couple of nights.
It's told from the view point of 3 characters.. Husband and wife.. Ethan and Charlotte and the mother in law.. Anna.
Ethan and Charlotte are newly married and totally in love. Anna is not so impressed and is desperately missing her son. Ethan a mummy's boy, is trying to appease both good wife and mother. When things start to go wrong for Ethan and Charlotte, they agree to move on with his mother. Will this be the best move or should Charlotte trust her instincts!
Great 4/5 read
I married her son, but he couldn’t see her evil…
Charlotte’s dream wedding to Ethan was the happiest day of her life. She knew his mother, Anna, loved her only son, but her overbearing nature starts driving Charlotte insane. Ethan always claimed his mother accepted her as part of the family, but her gut instincts couldn’t be wrong.
To help the happy couple save for their first house together, Anna presents an offer they can't refuse with a rent-free room in the family home. This is when Charlotte suspects Anna wants her boy back for good. Convinced she is out to destroy their marriage; Charlotte has a surprise that was about to bring them closer together or rip their relationship apart.
As tensions mount and Anna digs her claws in, Charlotte discovers a hidden family secret, but Anna’s manipulative nature ensures no one would believe her. Charlotte must survive a wave of cruelties and play the most vindictive mother-in-law she’s ever encountered at her own sinister game if her marriage is to survive a mother who can’t let go of the past.
Anna will stop at nothing to get what she wants…
I loved this story. Will recommend to others.
Thank you NetGalley for an opportunity to read this ARC .it was fast and written well enough to be entertaining. Gives a whole new meaning to the term Mother In Law from Hell. There were a few twists and turns. Some of them a little predictable. All and all a good read. Especially for a snowy day of r an airplane ride. Rounding up to 3.5 stars
Thankyou netgalley for allowing me a copy of his mother's lies early to give my review
Wow wow wow! This book had me HOOKED.
Not all mother in law's are evil... But some can be, this is Charlotte's story!
You could tell that Charlotte's mother in law had something about her. Just little things she did, little mind games she played with both her son and Charlotte!
I absolutely loved this book. Such an easy read, great storyline and the right amount of shocks! The story flowed so nicely while reading and I didn't want it to end!! You definitely want to keep reading to find out the ending though!
Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller! 10 out of 10!
What a great thriller! So many twists and turns.. great plot. Highly recommend…. Give it a five star.
Reading this brought back the feelings of dread and frustration that come with having a true mother in law from hell. I started this book yesterday. Last night I had nightmares of my long deceased mother in law. I finished the book today and I sincerely hope she doesn’t haunt my dreams again tonight. This may sound like a negative review but it’s not! From start to finish I was hooked and rooting for Charlotte (the daughter in law).
I want to start by saying I love books about a crazy mother in law, and this book definitely has that. I enjoyed the story and it was a fun read, however it was very predictable.
I like not knowing who to trust in a book and wondering who is lying.
I would recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Tension, suspense, unreliable narrators…this book is just what any thriller lover wants to read! Charlotte and Ethan are newlyweds, but Charlotte has a lot of doubts about Ethan's mom, Anna. She seems overly controlling and manipulative. But from Anna's side, she's just looking out for her son. After all, she's always been his mother and the number one woman in his life. But as true colors start to come out, the levels of deceit and manipulation run deeper and deeper. Who will come out on top in the battle for the top place in Ethan's heart?
The tension between the characters was built up really well in this book. I feel like it needed the slightly slower beginning to really create the setting for all of the conflict that happens later in the story. The characters were well developed, and the main plot twist was not what I thought it was going to be.
Overall, this was a great book and I really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC.
This was a deliciously suspenseful novel about a manipulative and obsessive mother, with nothing but disgust over her new daughter-in-law. There were many times throughout the book where I strongly believed that the couple, Ethan and Charlotte, were nothing but toxic together and just needed to move on from each other already, even though they had just married. After reading though, I believe they were nothing but happy in love with each other and even happier after ridding of their mother. It wasn't their fault they were put through so much in such a short period of time and didn't get to enjoy their honeymoon phase, but instead the mother's fault for being controlling, manipulative and eager to have her son stay by her side always.
While it moved at a slow speed, the ending was very exciting and hard to put down. While some parts through the book we're almost predictable, I was not expecting the twist and turns towards the end and how Charlotte managed to save the day. It is no secret that not everyone is a fan of their in-laws, but this story just goes to show how blood is not always thicker than love.
This was a great read and I really enjoyed it for being my first ARC that I have completed. It was written well, albeit a few typos and grammatical errors, which I didn't really mind due the solid story line and exciting dialogue. Definitely worth the read!
The multiple characters each have their moments and chapters. It was a great way to have 1st person perspective within the larger context instead of the overused omnipresence narrative.
The characters and their actions had me place the book down just to make sure I read it correctly. For instance, at one part of the novel, I became so distraught at a scene that I had to close the book and come back later when I wasn’t as upset.
Great storytelling. Would highly recommend.
Special thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Bone-chilling! I love thrillers and true crime and this satisfied both in one. From the very start Anna gave me an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. As the tale unraveled I could feel Charlotte's desperation for someone, anyone to believe her, most of all her own husband. Her frustration became my own as Ethan's unwillingness to see his mother for who she truly was continued through lie after horrible lie. Anna's twisted perspective was incredibly interesting to see. The malice behind every action, a true narcissist at it's most literal. I was shaking as her last evil plan unraveled in front of her, as desperate as Charlotte for him to finally see her as she really was. A monster. BRAVO!
Omg I flew through this and my jaw was on the floor! This is the perfect example of what a domestic thriller should be. I loved that the characters weren't idiots, there weren't ridiculous situations that wouldn't realistically happen .... and that makes it all so so creepy. Ots well written, some bits felt a bit slow but it picks up again quick enough before you ever get bored. A must read for anyone who likes domestic thrillers
