This started out slow but once it picked up I was hooked. This was a fun and twisty whodunit. I kept second guessing as to the culprit. A solid thriller that's worth reading.
Definitely one of my favourite authors, I love how she writes and this one is no different, lets hope it’s not too long until another great book comes out
Since that fateful night I have always kept myself to myself. Reserved. Private. Alone.
Some people think I am too quiet. That life is passing me by. But I know there is safety in my own company. That no one can hurt me if I don’t let them get too close.
Until the day I meet him. A handsome, charming stranger. A chance for me to take a risk…finally?
Or a man who threatens everything I’ve worked so hard for?
I always enjoy this authors books, Ava is a librarian and loves her job. She is out one night with her best friend Poppy when a strange man offers her a drink to which she refuses. She feels there is something not right about him and as she goes to leave the venue, he follows her and calls out "you will be sorry". She becomes totally obsessed with worry that the strange things that are now happening in her life are due to this mans presence. Once again this is a cleverly crafted story and one I enjoyed although I did find it a little predictable in parts.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own. 3 stars
Silence can be deadly.
Ten years ago Ava was living the dream at university. Wild nights and hazy days from partying and drinking to much. But after one bad experience smoking weed she was determined never to smoke it again.
That was until she found herself in a party with Simon, the beer had run dry and he convinced her to try again and she did. Several spliffs later they left to go home but Simon had other ideas and before she knew it he was sexually assaulting her, until she was rescued by two female students.
After getting a taxi straight to her sister Judy's house she refused to report it to the police but agreed to let the university know what happened. What she didn't bank on is that the other two females got there first and what happened next was to define how Ava spent the rest of her life.
Ava is now the head librarian at the Tate Modern in London.
It's her dream job and her life is quite and content. Her sister Judy is married with two children who she adores and often babysits for and her best friend Poppy from university keeps her on her toes with her full on/off love interests.
Ava and Poppy decide on a night out and going into to busy Belevedere Bistro seemed a good idea. But when Poppy noticed two men to help with her recent breakup Ave just thought nothing of it as it was typical Poppy.
When Ava started feeling unwell she made her way to Poppy who was of course engrossed with a conversation with one of the men she had her eyes on. She gave her excuses to leave and go home but after she left the other man that Poppy had her eye on asked Ave to come back in for a drink but having refused twice the man wasn't happy and told Ava that should be sorry!
I really don't want to give any spoilers out for the book, but believe me you will never know what is coming next.
Such a complex and compelling thriller that will make sure you have checked all the locks on your windows and doors.
For me this story started slowly but did pick up leading to an enjoyable read with twists and turns. Not my favourite book from the author but I would recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC
Ava goes out to a bistro with her friend, Poppy, and meets a man that wants to buy her a drink. She says no and wants to go home. He is quite persistent. She feels threatened as she leaves when he shouts to her, "you'll be sorry." After this occurrence, strange things start to happen. She hears noises in her home, finds a dead bird in her garden, gets suspended at work for something she had no idea about, and now a friend of her's has died. Something happened to Ava ten years prior with a man in college. She wonders if this is some how related to the bistro man.
THE LIBRARIAN was a fun read. I did assume correctly what was happening, but even though I did, I found the book to be quite entertaining. Ava was very paranoid as she should be. I think if you like to play detective, you'll likely enjoy this novel.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood book for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This review will be shared to my Instagram ( @coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.
Yea! Valerie Keogh delivers yet again! I just adore her writing style. This was an obsessive game playing addiction and I loved it. It was hard to know who to believe and trust. Amazing characters. Dark and twisty
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
Love love love this author fantastically written straight to the point in the chapters ...I look forward to all this authors books when they are released :) very very enjoyable read!!!!!if I could score it 1000000 i would lol :):)
Great cover! Just a three star read for me though. I liked the plot but found the twists and turns just didn't deliver for me this time. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for the purpose of this review.
This book was a decent read, it had light suspense, intrigue, action, mystery, murder, good detective work and some crazy twist and turns! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely! It wasn't one of my all time favorite but still worth reading! I will recommend reading this book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Shhhhh....Silence is safer.
Ava Warrington head librarian at the Tate Modern London is doing her dream job.
What happened in her life ten years ago, Simon Loder would still be alive and she has learned she has to say No.
Out with her best friend Poppy at the Belevedere Bistro, a chat up line leads her to say no and walking away to a voice shouting "You'll be sorry" and she flees home to Streatham.
Things start to occur that sets off Ava's paranoia and her imagination making her once again subconscious and that bistro man is getting under her skin.
There's a lot more trouble ahead for her as I kept reading on.
Let me start by saying this book is so good, it has all the potentials added to draw you in with almighty twists, and turns unimaginable, that made me jump and keep looking over your shoulder.
every chapter tells a different side that will keep readers hooked with characters that you are unable to trust.
This author knows how to push buttons in her readers to bring you a big slap bang ending, I loved it all, and could not put it down till I had finished.
An absolutely mind blowing stand alone, to sit read and open your eyes to blinding chapters.
5 stars.
I'm a massive fan of the author and went into this with high expectations and I have to say, this book surpassed every one!
This is what every other psychological thriller aspires to be. I was hooked almost instantly. The story has a good pace and progresses in a logical fashion. The twists and turns come out of nowhere and have your jaw on the floor.
The characters are so well written and the whole story is told on such a way that you just get sucked in and can see all the events play out in front of your eyes. I dont know how but this story is so vividly brought to life and you won't be able to out it down until you get to that final reveal.
A must read!
Mystery and intrigue…this book was written by a talented and gifted author. It is a cannot put down mystery. The characters are realistic. The story moves quickly. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. I tried to guess the ending over and over. It was not easily accomplished. This would make a mysterious television series. The bird at the beginning was almost a character. The images of the night, the shutters, the frightening shadows add to the mysterious theme of this book. I almost got up and shut my drapes tighter. Suspenseful and a feeling of eeriness add to this story.
Keogh is a masterly storyteller and one with a growing reputation for delivering fast-paced thrillers There’s a scene in the book, in the Tate Modern that I actually gasped at out loud. Pretty embarrassing as I was on the bus at the time 😬
