A cute cozy mystery with funny older protagonists. I really enjoyed this book, though it takes some time for the characters to come into their own. Its a fun journey - perfect for an palate cleanser between other books. It was simple but fun and sweet
I was curious to see what a Cozy Apocalypse Mystery would be like. The book is set in a small town in Washington State, some time after spores killed off most of the population. It's exactly what the description said it would be, a cozy mystery. Someone has stolen the community's food supply and two widows team up to find the responsible party. At times, it felt almost too cozy, in the same way that other mystery series can feel too perfect. The author never really mentions any of the unpleasant details of the apocalypse itself -- that seems to be over and done with. Now the focus is on the survivors, with no mention of what might be going on beyond the town's borders. As a reader, I had a lot of unanswered questions about that.
I enjoyed the read, but I'm not sure I'm enthusiastic enough to seek out the other books in the series.
This cozy apocalypse mystery is the first in a new series.
A community on Washington state is rocked when their winter stores disappear overnight. Widows Irene and Hilda Jo team up to discover whodunnit.
I'd like the story to be longer and more detailed, but it was a great read to relax with.
Wonderful, accessible read. Uplifting and challenging. Have many readers to recommend this to due to the grace with which it simplifies complex concepts.
A fresh and exciting new look at the way this book is written, the author has done an outstanding job and the production of this book
A charming tale that offers a refreshing perspective on the post-apocalyptic genre. The story follows the adventures of Irene and Hilda Jo, two strong and independent women who must work together to uncover a thief in a small town of survivors. The writing is engaging and the storyline is suspenseful, with just the right mix of humor, heart, and action.
This book is exactly what it’s set up to be, a very cozy read for afternoons in the sun.
Following Irene and Hilda Jo, neighbours who form an unlikely friendship, as they solve a mysterious crime in their community was an enjoyable read. Instead of kids solving the town mystery, we follow two older ladies (young, hip grandmas in my mind) and get a handful of pop culture references that readers can relate with. Experiencing Irene start to open up and come out of her shell while facing some uncomfortable truths about herself adds in the right amount of character growth that readers may want to receive from this book.
The ending was a bit predictable, but it didn’t take away from the book. I look forward to see what these two ladies get up to in the next book!
A delightful and refreshing series that offers a unique perspective on the post-apocalyptic genre. The series follows the adventures of Irene and Hilda Jo, two relatable and engaging characters who must work together to uncover a thief in a small town of survivors. The writing is engaging and the storyline is suspenseful, with just the right amount of humor and heart. What sets this series apart is its kinder, gentler approach to the end of the world, without the gratuitous violence, sex scenes, foul language, and zombie gore found in traditional post-apocalyptic fiction. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a fresh and entertaining take on the apocalypse.
