This series gave me vibes from stranger things and the old classic- Goosebumps.
The characters are brilliant and very relatable. Each are individual with their own quirks. Even though they are not ‘meant’ to be friends, the relationships they build with each other is endearing.
The stories would be for Year 4 upwards (9+)
Not as engaging as I had hoped, I found myself speeding up the pace , more so to get it over with than out of excitement and desperation to know what happens next.
But a great YA I think for children of children who grew up loving things like Goosebumps/Are you afraid of the dark?
This was such a fantastic spooky middle grade read. I loved that we basically jumped straight into the action and I loved trying to work out what was going on. I really enjoyed reading about these characters and I loved the developing friendships and banter between them. The atmosphere was also delightfully creepy and tense, it was fantastic. Now I know that I need to read the sequels and I'm really excited to get to them!

This was a fantastic middle-grade action, adventure and mystery novel. The plot was superb; it features four unlikely heroes, two even more unlikely villains, and something hidden under the school field.
I loved the way the dynamics between the characters, they bounced off each other and worked together so well.
This book hooked me from the first page, it was really well paced and the writing was spot on for middle-grade. I would compare it to the Goosebumps series, it was creepy, engaging and totally bingeworthy.

I was absolutely delighted to get this on audio, having had #2 last year. It's been said that this series is perfect for lovers of the Goosebumps series... they're not wrong :).
A bunch of teens are serving a weekend detention when things start to go very wrong. They have to rely upon each other and their varied skills to get out alive.
It's a gripping start to a great set of books. I hope there are many more to come.
I do not like horrors - even ones written for a younger audience so I listened to this with trepidation.
What a read! Excellent narration which kept me hooked. This is a tightly plotted suspense novel, which is no where near as scary as the cover suggests - though is has its moments! This book is so cleverly written and has such a heart-warming ending, which was totally unexpected.
This is a story of four children all at school on a detention, when the day takes an unexpected turn for the worse. As the children are hunted across their school campus, I got vibes of 'Stranger Things' and can see that this book will appeal to boys and girls alike. Yet, amidst the action, which is exhilarating and enthralling, there is a common link which is slowly revealed as each of the children's character is developed. What a book - reasonably short, but with so much action and unexpected themes. This would make a great class read - with lots to discuss.
Even though it is fiction, if you don't like spiders, this might be one to avoid!
What a disgusting premise! Brilliantly narrated and quite gross in parts, this really is an excellent teen horror novel.
My son (aged13) has been raving about this book for a couple of years so I was interested to listen to the audio book on my commute, and with him.
I agree. Great book!
Well Done Jennifer Killick
I was really draw in by the cover of this book and the premise but I didn't like the audiobook at all. I think it was a combination of not connecting with the main character AND the narrator so it just made it hard for me to stick with it. I don't really remember much of anything as I kept getting lost and tuning the book out. It's not a difficult book to read by any means, it jut wasn't for me
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. This is a wonderful part Sci-fi/fantasy/mystery/thriller suitable for young listeners/readers and up. The story unfolds in a big school at the weekend, a group of school kids on Saturday detention what could possibly ‘chillingly’ go wrong. Can they work it out, and save themselves. Listen to the book and have fun finding out. Thank you to Harper Collins Audio UK and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine freely given.
The book has been compared to the Goosebumps series, and rightly so! The story was creepy, engaging and short to binge-read. All the characters have their own distinct traits. The initial plot of this book reminded me of 'One of us is lying' with 4 students in detention and no mobile phones. But from there the story completely drifted apart into an adventurous mode.
P.S.: The Itsy Bitsy spider was an interesting touch. My memories related to this rhyme are now forever changed.
