First of all, congratulations on an awesome beginning of a series! I was immediately hooked and didn't want to put it down. She wrote characters that you could fall in love with despite their obvious flaws.
Found family is one of my favorite tropes and its got the makings of a great one with this trilogy.
The side characters are *chefs kiss* and they'll only get better.
The world building is so good and it made sense without being overly complicated.
I definitely recommend this one. It is adult fantasy but the spice level is quite low. Slow burn/ enemies to lovers/ great banter.

3.5 stars
The Ledge is a place where a civilization is trapped by a vast chasm and sheer mountain face with no way to escape the frozen wasteland without falling to your death. Dawsyn is an ax wielder and the only remaining member of her family. She has avoided the annual culling until now. She is ripped from the only home she has ever known and is forced to survive on her own. But then she meets Ryon, who offers to help them both escape their current situation and their past.
Overall, I enjoyed the plot of this book! It definitely read like a YA fantasy, but I didn't mind it. In fact, I am interested in continuing on in the series! Thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robot for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion/review. Although NetGalley only provided an "exclusive sampler," I ended up reading the whole book since I enjoyed the sampler (the first four chapters).

An intriguing start to a book. Excited to read more about what Dawsyn and her life is like living on the ledge. So many questions already in my mind, what is her role going to be? What is in the chasm, why are they living on this ledge, and why is beyond it worse?
Will be picking the full book up asap!

Since this is just a sampler I haven't posted the whole review on the web.
From the first 25 pages provided here I was intrigued with the world we're in and I hate the cold.
The worldbuilding is nice and you get immersed quite swiftly.
Hopefully when I read the entire book I will be editin this review.
Thank you for the sneak peak into what seems a nice fantasy book.

Since I have only been given the first 2 chapters through NetGalley, I was a bit annoyed. .
I am now forced to find the book elsewhere and to read it in its entirety......
The book began interestingly. The book has much to offer and I believe it can be quite good, but I cannot say so 100% just yet.

This sample of Ledge made me want to purchase the book immediately. From the very first pages, I was pulled into the world, captivated by the atmosphere and the intriguing characters. Dawsyn’s story already has me hooked, and I can't wait to see where it goes. I also found Hector’s quiet longing to be especially compelling—it adds such an interesting layer to his character. The writing is engaging, and the pacing feels just right, balancing action and emotional depth. This is shaping up to be an epic series, and I’m so intrigued by where it’s headed. Highly recommend grabbing a copy!

This was such a tease! The writing is SO descriptive in this!
I instantly felt for Dawsyn and the people of The Ledge. The descriptions of the cold made me shiver and I'm sitting in my heated house!
Will definitely be grabbing a copy of this soon to find out what happens for Dawsyn, Hector and this community.

Interesting read by a debut author!!
Slow burn romance
Enemies to lovers
Shape shifters
Epic fantasy

This is a preview of Ledge by Stacey McEwan with just a few chapters that might pique your interest for the book.
I recommend getting this preview before buying the book to see if it's for you.

While it can be tricky to judge a book by just a handful of pages, I can safely say that I cannot wait to pick this up and read it in it's entirety. It gave off Hunger Games vibes, which will appeal to many YA and Fantasy readers. The world was vibrant, I already have many questions about where the story is going and the world we were introduced to, and the pacing seemed fast enough to keep you turning the pages. I'd wait to read more before recommending it out to folks but since it's on my TBR, that shouldn't be a problem! 4/5 on what I have read so far.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The FMC and MMC are your pretty typical romantasy leads, but the twists and turns still managed to keep me hooked. It had a great balance between spice and plot, although the dialogue was a little cringe-y. Overall, I give this book a solid 3 stars. I will be continuing on with the next book before I make a decision whether or not to finish the series.
**Thank you to Angry Robot and NetGalley for the sampler of this book**

Review of The Ledge by Stacey McEwan
Stacey McEwan’s The Ledge presents a harsh and unforgiving world, where survival is a constant battle and escape seems impossible. The premise is intriguing: a civilization trapped on a frozen mountain, entirely reliant on the terrifying Glacians, who demand human sacrifices in return for supplies. Dawsyn, a fierce and determined protagonist, finds herself chosen for this fate but refuses to accept it without a fight.
The novel starts strong, drawing readers in with its bleak setting and high-stakes tension. Dawsyn is a capable and hardened character, shaped by years of struggle. However, while her resilience is admirable, her personality can sometimes feel one-dimensional, with much of her characterization revolving around anger and survival instincts. The introduction of Ryon, a half-Glacian offering to help her escape, adds an interesting layer of conflict, though their dynamic follows familiar enemies-to-allies (and possibly more) tropes.
The worldbuilding is atmospheric but somewhat sparse. The concept of the Ledge is unique, yet the book leaves many questions about its origins and the Glacians unanswered. While some of this is likely intentional, meant to be explored in future installments, it does make the setting feel underdeveloped in places.
Pacing-wise, the story moves quickly, with plenty of action and tension to keep readers engaged. However, the writing style leans toward straightforward prose, which, while accessible, sometimes lacks the depth and emotional nuance that could elevate the novel’s more intense moments. The romance element is slow-burning, but its progression may feel a bit predictable for seasoned fantasy readers.
Overall, The Ledge is an entertaining debut that delivers on action and stakes, even if it doesn’t fully realize its potential in worldbuilding and character depth. Fans of fast-paced fantasy with survivalist themes and a touch of romance will likely enjoy it, but those looking for deep lore and intricate character development may find it lacking.
Rating: 3.5/5

I heard about this book from booktok and came her read the sampler. So far, it was a promising start. I enjoyed the writing style of Stacey McEwan and will be purchasing the book to read.

I’ve been hooked from the start : the witting is immersive and captivating, the world building is intriguing and the tension between the characters immediate! I simply loved it!

i accidentally i downloaded this by mistake- i have no review to write for this title currently so i will not post one publicly and will instead leave this here! thank you 💫

I'd seen 'Ledge' floating around on the internet and was interested in reading it, but I've been bitten by BookTok and BookTube hype before. This sample allowed me to confirm that McEwan's writing definitely confirms the hype and that I'd enjoy this book. Can't wait to pick it up!

The first few chapters captivated and hooked me in, but felt like it was any other enemies to lovers book, she gets captured he rescues her and they end up falling for one another, so whilst the start showed promising stuff it then reverted to the usual ways of doing things, saying that I did enjoy her way of writing and I did feel hooked in the first few chapters, alas I’m giving it 4 ⭐️ because the actual story was good, other than just I’ve seen it happen in 100 books before this one.

I just read the sample of Ledge, and I’m already hooked! The world-building is intriguing, the tension is immediate, and the writing pulls you in from the start. I can already tell this story is going to be full of intensity, survival, and unexpected twists. If the rest of the book is anything like these first pages, I know I’m in for a wild ride—I can’t wait to keep reading!

The Ledge by Stacey McEwan is a promising debut that hooked me from the start with its unique, icy setting and the intriguing concept of winged creatures stealing humans for their souls. Dawsyn, the strong, axe-wielding protagonist, is definitely a highlight—she’s tough, determined, and easy to root for.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic with Ryon, the quiet and stoic winged warrior, was engaging, though I’d have loved to see more depth in their relationship. The world-building was interesting, though at times a bit confusing, and while the pacing was slower in some parts, I still found myself invested enough to push through.
The romance is more of a medium burn, but it was still satisfying, and I’m excited to see how their story develops. While the book could’ve used more descriptive details and some tighter world-building, it’s a solid start to a series that I’m definitely looking forward to continuing.

This sample definitely drew me in! After getting adjusted to the third person narrative this story really startled to unfurl a unique and interesting world of survival and cold that our FMC Dawsyn must survive in. She is strong and is the last of her family but so determined to survive and help those she cares about. I’m excited to find out more about her and how she overcomes the seemingly insurmountable world she’s lived in her whole life.
Ledge reminds me a bit of the hunger games in terms of survival of the fittest, limited supply delivery, and an unknown stronger force controlling a smaller population that’s kept in the dark.
Will definitely be picking this book up to continue on!
