Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the sample.
The sample chapters definitely caught my attention, I will be looking to read this series soon!
loved the sample and i cannot wait to read the whole book. the characters seem very detailed and the world building seems like it will be extensive. two things that i love in fantasy novels.
I currently own this book in paperback, seeing that the excerpt was free to read while waiting for approval with other ARC books, I decided to give this a shot.
Initially, I was caught off guard with the narration’s POV for the book, but I adapted quickly and came to enjoy it about 10 pages in. The premise is good for the story. It sets the mood for the bleakness of the book, the need for survival and to fight what belongs to you. The book emphasizes the scarcity of supplies and how those living must find ways to obtain them.
I cannot wait to see where this goes! While I have 9 books on my TBR between now and Xmas to read, I do have this set aside for one of my January/February book reads for the month. This has a lot of potential and I’m glad I took the leap to purchase the book! Hoping the book grows and evolves into a 5 star rating!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you enjoy a slow burn, enemies to lovers, found family romantasy, you will love this book.
(Small) SPOILERS AHEAD
Dawsyn was born on the Ledge, an icy prison separated from the Glacian realm by a huge chasm. Dawsyn is taken on a selection day by a large, winged Glacian, and she decides to run the slopes rather than lose her soul to king Vasteel’s pool of iskra in the Glacian palace. She meets an unlikely ally, half Glacian Ryon, who helps her survive the slopes. She eventually returns to the human realm, only to find out that things have never been what they seem. She is actually the descendant of past royalty, and the queens feel threatened by her presence from the moment they meet her! (but tbh, who wouldn’t, she is an ax wielding bad*ss). I won’t spoil the outcome, go READ THIS BOOK!
Even though this is just an excerpt, I loved it and now I cannot wait to read the entire book. This is one of those book that, at least, seems to have a good plot, good pace and is interesting enough to keep you involved and interested in the outcome.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
What an opening… two chapters filled to the brim with world (or ledge) building and character introductions. McEwan gives you just enough of a taste in this sample to leave you desperate to find out what happens next. Dawsyn already feels like an intriguing MC and we’ve barely seen anything yet. This is easily one of the most interesting concepts I’ve read in a long time - I can’t wait to see where this story goes!
“You know what they say – keep the violent, ax-wielding females close.”
“Who do you think of fooling? There is not one piece of you that can be considered fragile. And if you ever took up an interest with another, I’d leave you be and possibly suffocate in my own jealousy.”
- Dual POV, 3rd person
- Forced Proximity
- Enemies to Reluctant Allies to Lovers
- Slow Burn
- Witty Banter
- Cliffhanger
- 🌶️🌶️
I really enjoyed reading this book. I was captivated by the Glacian's, the people of the Ledge, their harsh living conditions, and the similar yet very different lifestyle's of the MC's. Both Ryon and Dawsyn came from living each day in survival mode and forced to endure it all alone which is no wonder they had so much chemistry. I loved their banter and the fact that Ryon was constantly poking at Dawsyn, trying to get her to be violent. The slow burn angst between these two was perfection. I would have liked to have seen certain events play out a little longer, they felt a little rushed but overall I enjoyed this book. The cliffhanger left me reeling, so I recommend having book 2 on-hand.
Just finished reading the exclusive sampler of the epic romantic fantsy novel, Ledge by Stacey McEawan, which was being used as promotinal material for the upcoming sequel, Chasm. This is a short review of the two chapaters that were available to review on NetGalley. This is an epic fantasy novel that will entice readers from many different genres and I look forward to reading more soon.
This book was immediately gripping with an incredibly vivid world with high stakes for added emaphasis. This cold world we find ourselves reading about may not be alive but the characters surely feel that way. That author breathes life into her chartacters within the space of two chapters with excellent characterisaztion and brief relationship dynamics. I think that is an incredible skill to have for any writer.
The world buliding was incredibly well done and almost made me shiver with anticipation about what was to come. It makes the reader feel as if they are walking far to close to the edge of the chams to feel safe. This world we find oursleves in is harsh and unforgiving and readers will defintely sympahthise with the characters when they come face to face with their worst nightmares.
I've seen this book circulating its way around BookTok for a while now, so when I saw this sampler available, I just knew I had to grab it! There's not much you can say with having read only 25 pages of the book, but the worldbuilding has captured me straight away. From line one I felt submerged into this whole new world. I've never read anything based in an icy setting before so I'm definitely intrigued. I adjusted to the writing style almost immediately, which is always a good sign. Very excited to read the entire book, off to a great start!
I have been watching Stacey's story from when she first started posting on TikTok that she wanted to be an author, and I was so excited to see when that finally happened! Ledge has such a stunning cover, and extremely intriguing premise! I loved this sampler from the book, and I can't wait to read the full thing!
"Ledge" by Stacey McEwan offers readers a thrilling and imaginative journey into a frozen world filled with danger, mystery, and the promise of unexpected romance. This fantasy novel's intriguing premise immediately captures the imagination, promising a unique and engaging story.
The Ledge, with its treacherous terrain and enigmatic Glacians, serves as a captivating backdrop for the narrative. The annual human sacrifice and the uncertainty surrounding it create an atmosphere of tension and intrigue that is likely to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
The protagonist, Dawsyn, emerges as a strong and resilient character, making her an ideal guide through this harsh and unforgiving world. Her determination to survive and her willingness to question the status quo add depth to her character and make her relatable to readers.
The introduction of Ryon, a half-Glacian, adds an intriguing layer to the story. The complex dynamics between Dawsyn and Ryon, marked by distrust and curiosity, suggest a slow-burning romance that could add emotional depth to the narrative.
Overall, "Ledge" appears to be an exciting and immersive fantasy novel that promises readers an intriguing blend of adventure, romance, and suspense. If you're a fan of fantasy worlds with unique cultures and a dash of romance, this book might be an excellent addition to your reading list.
I have only read two chapters so it’s hard to say if the book looks promising, but based on what I’ve read now, I don’t think I’m going to be taking a chance on this one.
I love it! The world building is so good, which is a must for fantasy book. It is easy to read and understand while also being super enjoyable. I can’t wait to read the whole book, and I did just buy it!
I didn’t realise this was just an excerpt when I requested to read, but I really enjoyed the small amount I did get through and was really gripped by the story. I look forward to finishing it!
I received a sample of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The sample contained the first two chapters, so I can only comment on what I've read. It promises an interesting premise. Dawsyn's character seems interesting and has a lot of potential. The sex scene in chapter two seemed unnecessary to me. The writing style is a bit stilted with a lot of purple prose and I find the tense that it is written in difficult to get into a rhythm with, and that is probably what would make me less likely to pursue this book. It might improve, though I don't feel myself driven to find out what happens.
I instantly went and bought this book after finishing this sampler. I cannot wait to tear through this book. Easily could see this becoming s new favorite read.
Took me a little to get into the writing style, but I'll continue the book, because the preview sounds promising. :)
First couple chapters only but I was definitely intrigued! Love a man with wings. I also found this author on TikTok and have loved the "husband into fictional character" series, Would for sure be interested in the full length.
4 Stars!
Do you know what’s wild!? Reading a book set in a treacherous icy, winter world during the middle of summer!
This story will suck you into this cold world and instantly make you connect with the bad@$$ main female character, Dawson. Also the main male character, Ryon, has wings! Hello Cassian, Rhys and Azriel…if you know you know.
This book will take you for a ride! The setting is masterfully created, the plot is intriguing and full of action, and the characters are interesting and piqued my interest. There is romance but it’s not the main feature. This book will take you for a ride and wait until the end…the cliffhanger hits SO HARD.
