Well this is just enough of a taste to get fully on board! Thanks for the sample! Now to head on and fully get on this train!
I enjoyed the sample I received of Ledge and have since purchased copies of the physical book for not only myself, but also my sister. I cannot wait to finish Ledge and am looking forward to the release of Chasm.
Can’t wait to read this story in its entirety; enjoyed the sample. A unique and interesting story line
Thank you for the approval. It was a good read and easy to get through. I will definitely follow up with the next book.
This was just the first 2 chapters of this book BUT IT MAKES ME WANT TO BUY THE WHOLE BOOK!! What is the ledge? What is the chasm? Where do people go when chosen on selection day by the Glacians?
Dawsyn is a survivor. The last of her family. She will have to stand out the front of her small hut on Selection day.
How dare you only give me two chapters!!! I'm off to buy and read the whole book. Thank God the sequel comes out soon too!
Thanks to Netgalley, Stacey McEwan and Angry Robot for this short excerpt, which has made me hungry for so much more!
This book has been known to me for a while (thanks BookTok!) and today was my first time reading some of it.
It’s always a good sign when a book can entice you in with a couple chapters. The premise is interesting – a community of people that are both friend and foe to one another all trying to survive their unusual situation, the elements of the snow and cold and the mysterious Glacians adding to the hardship.
I can safely say that this sampler has me intrigued and I will definitely be getting the book at some point so I can see where it leads!
Favourite Quote: “She has learned the might of silence. It is the prelude to fear. It is the absence of company. It is the moment before the monster takes you into his claws.”
Thank you to Angry Robot, Netgalley, and Stacey for the sampler in exchange for my honest review.
I had to get a blanket for this book because i felt the chill in the air that was within this book.
i really enjoyed this sample and already have this book in my cart on amazon. there is a level of anticipation that i feel that has me very intrigued. I will put the full review on my good reads when i complete the book.
Thank you to netgalley for making an ARC available to readers! I was excited about the opportunity to read one of the books booktok (and the author) have sold me on months ago.
Unfortunately, I was unable to use the content provided to read so I am unable to give a full review. Looking forward to reading it though.
It's difficult to review just a short sample, but I quite liked the first two chapters which did keep me wanting more. I was intrigued about this strange world on a mountain where people turn animalistic for survival, which is a given from what I read about the environment. This seems like my kind of book and I will have to check out the full book in the future.
The first two chapters lay a strong foundation, introducing us to a diverse cast of characters and setting the stage for an epic adventure that lies ahead.
Thank you for allowing me to read the first couple chapters of this book. I think the plot was unique. I tend to like plots where people are trapped and have to make their own society and it definitely fit that plot. It definitely piqued my curiosity and I think I am going to keep reading it once I can get a copy. I was surprised that I was so intrigued within the first two chapters because a lot of fantasy books have such slow starts. I felt like it was action packed and introduced us to some of the relevant characters without being rushed. I am also really excited to learn more about the demon god things that are imprisoning them.
It seems like a very promising novel! I’ll be getting a copy at some point so that I can read the remainder of it!
'I have heard really great things about this book from bookish friends and on Instagram and Tik Tok. This sample confirmed that what I was hearing was most likely true and not just the usual booktok/bookstagram hype. I am very excited to read the full book now!
Stacy McEwan's first book in the Glacian Trilogy, Ledge had me all excited because the premise sounds delightful. We've got ourselves what sounds like a strong, independent female lead, who seemingly through sheer determination and no-nonsense attitude must overcome an adversity that has led to many a death before. No one has scaled the Ledge, and now Dawsyn, with the help of Ryon, decides that she will not, in fact, die as she gets to the other side of the cliff.
While it seemed extremely appealing at first, the plot fizzles out as the narrative progresses - and this is mainly because the lack of depth plagues the storyline, the characters, the villainy - all of it! It desperately needs more thought put into it to not read like a pitch to what could be a good story. The world-building too could use some work - especially in building the mythos of the story's universe - how does the magic system work, what is the primary religion and how does it align with the magic etc etc. And the dialogue too, could use a bit more complexity than characters simply saying, 'Damn' or 'Fucking hell'
Dawsyn, although I did like her in the beginning, loses her likability because later on, she just comes across as a 2 dimensional mean girl that can wield an ax.
Overall, as far as a YA fantasy is concerned, this one is strictly okay and giving it a miss wouldn't cause any regrets. I give it a 2.5 stars rounded down because it just doesn't warrant 3 stars.
I received a sampler of this book from Netgalley. There's been quite a bit of hype about this book and I can understand why. I cannot wait for this to come out!!
Thank you netgalley for providing an exclusive sample of Ledge!
After reading the two chapters available to me, I am so intrigued to see what happens next! The wintery, harsh world Dawsyn calls home is unlike anything I’ve read before and can’t wait to read this book fully and see how her story unfolds. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and how this sample provides a glimpse of Dawsyn’s resilience and fears.
I only had access to the first two chapters but boy were they the most beautifully written two chapters. I have to wait a little while to be able to continue the story but I cannot wait.
That was a hell of an introduction. Even in only two chapters, I found myself extremely invested. I love Dawsyn so far, and I look forward to continuing reading about her.
To be honest, I wasn't planning on reading this book, but after reading this sample I am now intrigued!
Great start to a captivating new series by Stacey McEwan!
I was drawn to Ledge immediately when I saw the gorgeous cover and my excitement only grew when I read the description. I was a huge fan of The Hunger Games trilogy when I was younger, so I knew I’d like this sampler because of the similarities. I was also excited about this type of dystopian fantasy book being aimed at an adult audience.
Ledge follows Dawsyn, a girl in her mid-twenties who is trapped along with many others in a place they refer to as The Ledge. Since no one can escape without falling to their death, food and supplies are running low and the people who reside there must race each other to acquire the things that are necessary for survival when packages drop. These are dropped by flying creatures called Glacians, who do this in exchange for a human sacrifice twice a year. No one knows what happens to these people once they are taken. Dawsyn’s been lucky so far - even though she has no family to stand in front of during the selection, she hasn’t been taken yet - but that’s about to change.
From the first page, I was immediately encompassed in the icy atmosphere of The Ledge. I was immediately rooting for Dawsyn to get the supplies. I was immediately wondering what happened to Dawsyn’s friend Hector’s father after he was taken by the Glacians. And I immediately wondered what who the Glacians were going to take over the chasm as the next sacrifice!
This sampler wasn’t enough and I’ll definitely be purchasing this book to find out what happens next.
Thank you so much for NetGalley and Stacy McEwan for providing this these first couple chapters, and I can’t wait to read the rest!
