Ledge pulled me in immediately. I have so many questions about Dawsyn and about how the Ledge community was first formed. I am glad that this book has already been released so that I can finish reading it soon.
INSTANT TBR!
I’ve seen this book a couple of times on Booktok and was hesitant to read but after reading the sampler, i’m so excited! The premise is a combination of The hunger games (because of the reaping) and The Maze Runner (being trapped and not knowing what’s beyond). The first two chapters didn’t give us whole lot of plot but it shows the reader what kind of person our main character is through her actions and the way she lives. Overall, I would definitely recommend going forward and reading the whole book!
After reading this sample i cant wait to get my hands on a copy of the book. Thank you to net galley for this sample.
I received a sampler of this, and although it was just 2 chapters, it draws you in and has you needing to read more. Why were they reduced to living on the Ledge? Why did the Glacians force this, and why do they take a tribute every year? This promises to be an enticing read that I look forward to picking up soon. Dawsyn seems like a strong character, and I'd like to see more of what drives her.
This definitely seems like a book that fantasy readers would enjoy.
A huge thank you to Netgalley and Angry Robot for giving me a chance to read an exclusive sample from Stacey McEwan's Ledge in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to read this book before but after reading only two chapters I just HAVE to read more.
Ledge starts off with showing the hardships Dawsyn suffers all alone where the cold is always present and the looming threat of Selection Day looms over her head, as she's the only one left of her family to present when the time comes. You can already tell by only two chapters, where the story is about to go but that doesn't mean you don't want to know thatt happens next.
Ledge gives off some serious Hunger Games vibes and I personally get wait to get my hands on a copy to read the rest of the story.
Ledge being the first installment of the Glacial trilogy and Chasm only a few months away from pubication, makes for the perfect read if you want to dive into a dangerous world where survival is the driving force of ther characters and betrayal could be found if one is not careful enough.
“She’d watch their blood absorb into the mosaic at their feet and call it art.”
Thank you to Net Galley for letting me review this.
The first half of this book captured me with a premise I hadn't yet read about, which made me initially really interested in this story. After the 50% mark it felt like only 10% of the book was story development as it was filled with sex scenes, which isn't what I came into this book expecting or wanting. I am not adverse to sexual content within books it doesn't bother me, but I was led into believing it was going to be void of that with the first 50%, for the rest of it to feel like a fantasy erotica novel.
Ending redeemed itself slightly and secured a 3/5 for me
These two chapters certainly have me intrigued. If I hadn't read the blurb, I don't think the sampler would've done this book justice. Great world building, and I'll be keeping an eye out for it come June!
Great sneak peek! Dawson is a strong female character, which are the kind I like to read about. Reminded me of Katniss Everdeen or even Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Looking forward to the book release so I can continue this story!
Before requesting this book, I knew nothing about Ledge or the plot. I had heard the name before, but couldn't quite place where. After reading this exclusive sampler, I just know that the type of universe Stacey McEwan is building - is the type that I can get lost in for hours. In just a short sampler, her writing is sublime and fresh. You can tell that she chooses her words very carefully to convey just the right meaning. I cannot wait to dive in and read more.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Stacey McEwan for allowing me to read this sampler of Ledge in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you netgalley for the opportunity for reading this two chapter example of ledge, although this book wasn’t for me I shall be recommending this to others that will enjoy it a lot more than me.
This seems like a story that would be very appealing to many readers. It has a dark, serious tone, and a strong, independent female protagonist.
It isn't for me. It feels like a cookie-cutter story from all YA/ NA fantasy books of the last 20 years or so, which isn't something that I personally enjoy. The writing style feels like it's trying to be deep and poetic, but isn't really succeeding.
I'm glad that I read this short excerpt to find out that it's not to my taste.
Picked this up thinking it was the full book, but I did thoroughly enjoy the first two chapters and plan on picking up both this first book and hopefully the sequel!
The cover is REALLY beautiful, and is what drew me in to read the description. This two chapter sampler was very intriguing, and definitely made me interested to read the full book, and the upcoming sequel. From what I read so far, I would say this might appeal to fans of The Hunger Games.
The language in this sampler was very beautifully written in a poetic style, but in terms of story telling, felt disconnected and didn't feel intriguing enough for me to continue and purchase the rest of the title. There was no character or occurrence that grabbed my attention and made me ask, "what's going to happen?". It definitely felt like a new story, not a twist on a story that's been done before, but in my opinion the execution was lacking.
Judging a book based on two chapter is an interesting experience. I am very intrigued about what secrets the chasm holds (maybe monsters like made in abyss?). I think Dawsyn has potential to be a powerful main character, and I want to know more about the selection and what happens to people who are selected.
This was an incredible sampler and I’ve finished this wanting to know more! I’m incredibly curious to see where this stories goes, the world building feels incredibly new and I genuinely have no idea where this story could go - which is a wonderful feeling as a reader!
I’m keen to see how Dawsyn’s life continues, for now I see her as an incredibly resilient and intelligent woman who could become one of the more impressive female characters I’ve read. Thanks for the arc sample!
From reading the beginning of this book I think it has a lot of potential. Whilst I don’t yet understand too much about the plot it seems like there could be some high stakes involved which could make for good plot twists.
The first two chapters so far are interesting but don’t tell you too much about the plot which did leave me a little confused but I think it will be the type of book which starts out slow and picks up as the major plot points start to take place.
Overall I am excited to read the whole book once it comes out. I think it could be a really good fantasy book which seems like it will have a very strong female main character (which I always love to see).
This sneak peek is just enough to get you curious! Ledge is an exciting, fast paced fantasy novel perfect for those who grew up reading (and enjoying) The Hunger Games and similar novels. It has a clever heroine, a unique setting and an intriguing love interest. I am lucky enough to have read the book in its entirety as well as this sneak peek and was thoroughly entranced.
I received an exclusive sampler of this book from netgalley as an advanced reader copy. I only received 2 chapters but what I did read has me intrigued. I cannot rate this book as I have only read so little bit the premise sounds interesting. It’s about a community that lives in a brutal Iceland on the edge of a huge drop. To fall over that drop is to die.
There is a selection every year where these great winged beasts fly through and pick a villager at random and takes them away - where they go no one knows. The environment is brutal and cold and they are all all just fighting to survive. The paperback comes out in June and I think I will be reading it.
Thank you to netgalley for a preview of this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Interesting first two chapters.
World building on point - makes it interesting but still a lot to learn.
Dive right into the adventure.
Can’t wait to read on
