Twice Cursed is an anthology in which every story incorporates a curse of some sort. Some are of the hex or cursed object variety while others are more about suffering ramifications of a deed one has done. A few are based on well-known fairy tales, one on a classic poem, another on famous horror author's creation. For the most part I found the various tales interesting and enjoyable. If I were to single out a favorite or two, Christina Henry's "Pretty Maids All in a Row" was the creepiest and Joe Hill's "Dark Carousel", though I read it previously, was of the quality one would expect from him. The last four in the book were my least favorite, as they seemed more average and less innovative than the rest of the anthology. Overall, this was an entertaining read.
Twice Cursed
A decent compendium of short stories by various authors in the horror genre. Most are pretty good; shout out to Angels of London. Only disappointment is that the stories from the well established authors such as Gaimon and Hill are old and previously published. Nonetheless, worth a read - 3 stars.
Twice Cursed is a fantastic horror anthology with something for all horror fans. Some of the authors in this quick and easy to read anthology were new to me and it was a pleasure to get to read their works. It certainly has encouraged me to seek out other stories by these authors. This collection also includes some big names from the horror/thriller world and as always these authors don't disappoint. Thank you to the author's featured here for a fantastic and fun read.
This book of 16 short stories follows on from volume one; Cursed, and is every bit as dark and wonderful!
Featuring some of my all-time favourite fantasy writers, this volume has a superb mix of gothic tales, fairytale retellings and modern fantasy horror.
There wasn’t a story I didn’t enjoy here, some are more spooky than others, but all of them are incredibly atmospheric and I especially loved the retellings. My favourite however was The Angels of London 👌 This modern day tale by Adam L. G. Nevill stood out.
This is a great book to dip in and out of with dark creepy stories and great twists, from some of fantasy’s best writers, perfect for a dreich evening.
