The LIttle Mermaid isn't always my favorite Disney story, but Zoraida Córdova's Kiss the Girl beautifully adds twists and turns to the classic to make it feel new and refreshing. I had no idea what I was in for or where the story would go from the very first page to the last. And ultimately, that's how you write something inspired by a tale most of can recite from start to finish. Ariel and Eric's story in Kiss the Girl feels fresh and lived-in simultaneously. The writing is beautiful, the characterizations are exceptional, and the pacing worked wonders. The meant-to-be series continues to be an exceptionally diverse addition to the world of romance.
A very grown up adaption of The Little Mermaid! I have seen a lot of books like this directed at YA, so it was cool to see a story geared towards an older audience.
The tension was great! The family dynamics were engaging. The ending was solid! Definitely a good read for Disney fans!
Sometimes I find romances with musicians to be challenging but this made me rethink everything. So fun and truthfully inspiring.
The Little Mermaid is one of my absolute favorite Disney movies, so I was highly looking forward to this installment of the Meant to Be series. I really enjoyed the musician aspect within this one as well as all the nods to the original Disney movie. This was a great addition to the series and I would recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed the others or just fans of The Little Mermaid. This was also my first book by this author and will not be my last.
This was a fun and delightful read! I will be recommending this as our book club pick.
If you are a Little Mermaid super fan, this book is definitely for you. This book is peppered with all sorts of cute nods to the movie. So keep a look out for them!
Thank you to both the author and the publisher for a free review copy of the book.
A very sweet re-telling of the classic The Little Mermaid with a diverse cast of characters. The conflict was pretty low stakes, but this was a fun beach read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy of Kiss the Girl.
Full Disclosure I am a Disney Adult. This was such a cute and modern retelling of The Little Mermaid. I loved the references to minor characters such as Max. I finished this in a 24 hour period and enjoyed the entertaining, cute, and engrossing read.
This book was such an entertaining edition to the “Meant to Be” series! It was a cozy, fun retelling of The Little Mermaid with a modern, upbeat twist! I’m a huge fan of Cordova and this book doesn’t disappoint.
I feel like I'm in the minority here, because I sadly did not love this one (and I've been really enjoying the Meant To Be series, plus I'm a fan of Zoraida Cordova). I think it was a little too "insta-love" for me, which I understand is kind of the point since it's The Little Mermaid-inspired. I think this one just wasn't for me.
Kiss the Girl is part of the Meant to Be series, which reimagines Disney princesses in modern day. This take on the Little Mermaid does not disappoint! As the youngest sister in Siren Seven, Ariel del Mar has been on stage and in the public eye for most of her life. When the sisters all agree to take a year off, Ariel decides to find out who she really is. Between falling for rising star Eric and learning her parents' true history, Ariel also learns who she wants to be. This book is not to be missed by princess and romance fans alike.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.
I loved this Disney retelling. For those who know the Disney movies, there were several great Easter eggs placed throughout--they all made me chuckle or smile. I loved the travel and self-discovery and the way Corodova created a unique story even while keeping in tough with the Little Mermaid story. A must read, and possibly the best of the Meant to Be series so far.
You don't see very many Little Mermaid retellings, and this one really hit it right! Our girl Ariel is Hannah Montana-ing her way through her first break in years, and she can't help but fall for the swoon-worthy Eric. And like, there were some twists and turns here, I sort of assumed I knew exactly how this would all shake out and I was wrong. If you loved the first two books in this series, you can't go wrong with book 3!
I thought this was good, but it wasn't my fav in the series. I had to push myself through it to finish it a bit.
I have greatly enjoyed this retelling series! Zoraida Cordova did a great job in twisting the tale of the little mermaid into a contemporary rom-com. I look forward to reading more from her whether in this genre or her more typical genre of fantasy.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
I spent so much of this book looking for The Little Mermaid easter eggs which is fun if you’re into that, but also it seemed like there were big pieces of the original story left out which was a little disappointing. I was also a little shocked by how horny Ariel and Eric are for each other for the entirety of the book. It’s important to note though that none of these things are complaints and I overall did enjoy the book.
This book was a joy to devour. This was a tender love story inspired by the little mermaid and it was everything it needed to be. Zoraida has a beautiful way with words and reading Eric and Melody’s story as they both figure out who they are and what’s important to them with some amazing found family and family was everything my little heart needed.
I am not a big romance fan but I really enjoyed this story. I thought the author did a great job connecting the little mermaid theme/aspects of the movie to the novel. I am a big fan of this author in general. It was a sweet and fun romance.
Kiss The Girl is a cute and fluffy retelling of The Little Mermaid. While I wouldn’t call it a stand out in the romance genre, I do think it is the best of the Meant to Be series so far. A solid option for satisfying millennial nostalgia.
The next installment of the Meant to Be series has the hardest challenge yet, making Little Mermaid into a contemporary romance without any magic. This was a super fun read, with creative uses of the names of characters, new Hispanic backgrounds for the main characters, and S Club 7 vibes.
Also, clean enough for younger readers!
Ok, I’m a sucker for twisted fairytales, but I’m going to be honest, that most, while good or fun, kinda miss the mark. They might still be a good story, or a fun read, but there’s always a little bit of something that is still missing. Well, this is the rare exception! This book hooked me with such wonderful well thought out characters and so much heart, that I paused all ongoing books to just live in this world with them till the end. (And considering I’m usually reading between two and five books at a time, that’s a feat!)
Ms. Córdova managed to beautifully incorporate the characters and storyline from the Little Mermaid you know and love into a wonderful, heartwarming, amazing story about a pop star running away to find herself and a band (with a beautifully dreamy lead) setting off hoping for their big dreams to be realized. I want this movie! Tropes exist for a reason in storytelling, but what makes this story better is you love these characters. You really want them to succeed. You cheer for the little victories and maybe (ok, I did) tear up at the heartbreaks.
I really really loved this! It was just the right amount of sweet, funny, and heartfelt. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for sure!
**Endless thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this story!**
