I loved the plot and the setting. A great storyline and of all the reincarnation books I`ve read until now it`s one of the best. I`m looking forward to more novels from the author.
I thought that this book was wonderful. The author did an excellent job creating imaginative characters that were interesting and multi-faceted characters. I loved the plot, and felt that it was unique and different. A solid read that pulled me in from the beginning. I really enjoyed it.

There is a serial killer on the loose in D.C, and her husband is on the case it is a gruesome one and the parallels to Sienna are eery. The killer is murdering young women and her husband refuses to talk to Sienna about the murders.
Sienna is an artist and is commissioned to do a medieval mural at The National Gallery of Art. The painting starts to resemble the dreams that she has been having. Are the dreams based on a past life, or just figments of her imagination? They are based in Ireland in medieval times and have a lot of elements of war. Soon Sienna is not able to tell whether the dreams are real or not.
Someone is out to get her, and more women die as the investigation goes on, Sienna realizes that it is her that the medieval king is after her husband. The story is told from Sienna's aspect but her husband also plays a big part. I loved the back and forth between medieval Ireland and to present.
I have always loved a time travel story, and this one is no exception. Well researched but with a warning about sexual abuse, so if this triggers you in any way please be advised. I really enjoyed this novel, as I do anything Irish, it is fun for a character to be brought back in time so this book was a great one for me.
I give it 5 stars and hope to read more by Vera Bell!
Interesting, but missing something. That’s the best way to describe the book Through the Veneer of Time by Vera Bell.
To begin with, the story has such an interesting plot, I knew I had to read this book. It was unique, intriguing, and seemed like it would be full of mystery. Imagine, your life being full of small, odd intricacies that you could never quite understand, until one day you get to see into your past life and everything slowly falls into place. Lord knows that sounds like one hell of a story to me!
My main issue with this book is that there are just a few too many moments where the reader has to suspend their disbelief a little too long. Because this book is meant to take place in this world, without magic or fantasy or anything extraordinary (besides the ordinary), I was disappointed that everyone seemed to be living their life with some inkling of their past lives. While I find the topic intriguing and I believe to an extent that many people had past lives that influence their current one, most people I know don’t have the ability to sense their past lives in the way every character in this book seems to. It felt like the author wanted to ensure that everyone’s past life became an integral part of the story, when I personally feel that the main character, Siena’s, connection was enough to give us everything we needed to further the story.
I will also give a content warning. There's an overarching theme of sexual assault and violence. While most of the scenes weren't overly descriptive or graphic, there were a few times where I personally was feeling grossed out and uncomfortable by some of the prose. I would recommend that individuals read this with caution or think about if this is the right book for them if they're easily triggered by these topics.
Overall, this story was well written, with very few scenes with overly flowery language. I think there’s many redeeming qualities in this book for people who enjoy reading realistic fiction with a hint of fantasy. It’s a good introduction to a whimsical genre while still being grounded in reality.
