Thanks must got to Netgalley, the publisher and Karen Hamilton for the ARC of ‘The Contest’.
Brilliant thriller, palpable tension throughout that just continually built and built. The setting aids the thriller feel and the book is so well written.
Brilliant twists towards the end and then an absolutely killer reveal right in the final pages!
Goodness, this was an unexpectedly darker read than I had anticipated. If you thought you had any clue about working in the travel industry, think again. Welcome to the Great Escape, an annual trip where a high profile business owner asks his expert guides to escort VIP clients on a holiday of a lifetime. This time they’re aiming for the summit of Kilimanjaro… but there’s plenty along the way to ensure the trip isn’t going smoothly for all. For the winner, there’s an all expenses trip, but for the loser, well, it won’t be very nice put it that way. But when you have to worry about your colleagues more than possible altitude sickness, and things take a sinister turn for the worse, then you have to question why you’re in the industry in the first place. You have to ask yourself: what would you do to stay on top – and not just of the mountain?
This tense, splashy destination thriller is a great read and is sure to be a hit this summer. I've been a fan of Karen Hamilton since The Perfect Girlfriend and this one doesn't disappoint.
I absolutely loved the premise so was so excited to get stuck in and thankfully, it didn't just live up to my expectations.... it surpassed them!! Such a tension filled story with a really original premise and a unique setting. I flew through this in a day and was kept guessing the whole time! The writing style keeps you engaged without any waffling or filler paragraphs and the plot is constantly moving forward. Absolutely recommend
Fantastic. This book is really original, edge of your. Seat. Filled with drama and tension. I loved the dual narrative. Yes don't sleep on this one.
This was exciting, the contest itself was a great event, although I certainly didn’t want to take part. I loved the atmosphere and the dual narrative was greatly executed. Guaranteed to make you feel tense!
A megalomanic boss plus super ambitious employees all on a work challenge climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - what could possibly go wrong?
I enjoyed this book, well written characters, interesting plot and I liked the ending. I devoured it in just over a day.
Firstly, thank you to Netgallery, Wildfire books and Karen Hamilton for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Karen Hamilton is the queen of thrillers! I’ve read all her books so I was ecstatic about getting my hands on her latest one! Wow what can I say this book was amazing, it was a fast paced and kept me guessing throughout a perfect book for psychological thrillers fans alike! The ending wow and I did not see it coming!
Overall I throughly enjoyed this book and all the plot twists that it presented! Karen Hamilton definitely should be on everyones shelf!
Thoroughly Entertaining…
It’s that time of year for ‘The Great Escape’ - and this year will present the biggest challenge of all. Kilimanjaro awaits and the rival team guides will traditionally do anything to win - absolutely anything, but there will be more at stake in this challenge than even they can possibly imagine. The reader is taken along on the twisted path of the challenge as Florence and Jacob lead the way. Wholly compelling from start to finish with a snappy dual narrative that never lets up, a perfect sense of place and a plot peppered with twists and turns. Atmospheric, engaging and thoroughly entertaining.
