Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.

Ashley Poston has become a must read author for me. I devoured this book and I didn’t want it to end.

This book follows Clementine who lives in her recently deceased Aunt’s old apartment. This apartment sends her back 7 years in the past where she falls (almost instantly) in love with Iwan, a chef who is subletting the apartment from Clementine’s aunt for the summer.

Clementine as a main character was well written and how she was developed outside of being a publisher who falls in love.

My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed. I would’ve preferred Clementine and future Iwan spend more time together refamiliarising themselves before the happy ever after. I also feel like Clementine’s aunts death wasn’t explored enough, particularly the cause and how it affects Clementine.

I was so nervous about reading this book because I LOVED The Dead Romantics so much but I really enjoyed this one too. The concept was so interesting that there was a 7 year gap between lovers and seeing how they changed as people throughout the years. The ending was so heartwarming and throughout was funny, romantic and hopeful.

The best way I can describe Ashley Poston's books is that they are romantic, but they are not romances. She uses a (magical) romantic thread as a springboard to explore other big themes, including grief, in a gentle but really effective way. Clementine in The Seven Year Slip, just like Florence in The Dead Romantics, is really lost after a sudden bereavement and the romantic narrative in the book allows her to find herself again. I love that this book also centers around books and publishing (which also enables a small cameo). I gobbled it up, and really look forward to what the author does next!

This was a sweet, heartwarming romance with one of the loveliest cinnamon roll male leads I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. I'm a sucker for romances with a speculative element, and the magical apartment satisfied my love for this plot element perfectly - I also loved Clementine's aunt and would have loved to have seen even more of her! Clementine was a great character too, I felt so deeply for her and could absolutely understand why she'd made the decisions in life she had. Overall this was a wonderful book and I can't wait to see what Ashley Poston writes next.

This book surprised me incredibly! I wasn’t sure what to expect of such a plot but I can confirm I got swept up in it so so quickly. I love the main characters and although their relationship seems to progress quickly, the way the book is written still gives me angst and longing, which is exactly what I look for! It was such an interesting love story, and I fell in love with the way grief was described and written. Thoroughly enjoyed this book!!

Another gorgeous read from Ashley Postin. She writes so beautifully and lyrically, which makes this magical realism story all the more enchanting. It’s more of a ‘time pocket’ story than a ‘time loop’, as Clementine’s apartment, at irregular intervals drops her back to seven years in the past, offering her a chance of love and also to overcome her present day grief. I was cheering for Iwan and Clementine as they learned to face and accommodate their changes in order to win their Happy Ever After.

Clementine inherits her aunt's NYC apartment. But it's not just any apartment- it has powers to slip seven years into the past. She was very close to her free spirit aunt and is devastated by her death. She always heard tales of the time slip apartment, but she never knew whether to believe them or not. When she finds out firsthand the apartment's powers, she meets family friend Iwan who her aunt has allowed to stay there while she started over in NYC as a chef. But in real time, Iwan has rebranded himself as James and is the hottest chef in town. Clementine works for a small book publisher hoping to land cooking star James' book. Can Clementine keep what feels like the past to her and the present separate or will their timing work out?

I typically don't love time slip romances (The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, dare I say even Outlander) but for some reason I loved this one. I really liked that the characters were not actual time travelers and that their meeting was due to a location. It was less supernatural (you still have to suspend disbelief), but it made me more on board with the couple. I really liked both of the main characters, their career ambitions and identity seeking, and found myself rooting for them. This is the power of actual good storytelling! Put this one on your summer reading list.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy for review.

This was a cute summer romance, I loved the idea, but unfortunately, the execution felt a little flat for me.  It just felt quite rushed, I think I would have preferred a more slow-burn relationship and some of the tropes like the fan favourite one bed felt really forced, but that may just be personal preference.

A New York set, time bending romance for lovers of magic and young lust. A must summer read. What happens when you meet the right one but at the wrong time? Time (and an apartment with a secret) just might give you another chance.

Ashely Poston's Once Upon a Con trilogy is one of my favourite book series, so when I saw this on Netgalley, I had to jump on it.

The plot had immense potential, but it ultimately left something to be desired. The story was so predictable, I guessed everything that happened, every plot twist, which I really hate.

The romance was a little insta lovey. They fell in love with each other after a day of being together and Iwan pined for her for 7 years which was very unrealistic to me since they were together a total of like 4 days. Also, they had very little chemistry with each other. I feel like a dual POV would've maybe been better.

Overall, cute and enjoyable enough, yet I doubt I'll remember anything about this book in a few weeks.

Really enjoyed this second novel I’ve read by Ashley Poston. The time travel aspect added a little something different to a usual romcom and the moments of sadness dealing with grief and the loss of a loved one really resonated with me too. I liked the setting around the publishing and hospitality/restaurant worlds especially with my experience in both! There’s even a little cameo from The Dead Romantics too!
Overall a great read with funny, spicy and sometimes sad moments.

This one was hit or miss for me. It started on the miss end, and for the first 50% the plot felt predictable and seemed to be following the "uptight young woman learns to live again and be happy and fun thanks to the power of LOVE" plot line (which is NOT my fave). And it kind of ended up doing that. But at around half way through things started to pick up, I became invested in the characters, and it ended up crossing the finish line strong (we're averaging out my opinions for this rating, hence the three stars).

I will say, if you liked the author's previous book, "The Dead Romantics," you'll probably enjoy this one. It also follows a late 20's woman working through grief, slightly speculative romance, and the publishing industry. To that end, you might also like it if you're an Emily Henry fan. But it's not the sort of book that I would necessarily recommend, unless it seems to really be a reader's type of tea. Good if you want a fun romance that deals with weightier issues, but I think there's better out there.

Firstly, thank you to HQ for the arc via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you have not read The Seven Year Slip yet and don’t want any spoilers I will post my spoilery review after the bullet points. As for the non spoiler review I will give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars. I really love Ashley Postons writing style. I am always so engaged with, and look forward to, reading her books and they really feel so comforting when I’m reading them. I feel I am going to be a lifelong fan.

The Seven Year Slip explores the idea of right person but wrong time. We meet Clementine who is trying to get through the grief of losing her beloved aunt who she spent time on adventures with throughout her life and stays with her in her Upper East Side apartment. Her aunt tells her that her apartment is magical but Clementine doesn’t believe her until she meets a handsome stranger called Iwan.

The story was enjoyable but I found the characters weren’t quite as interesting or had the chemistry her first book The Dead Romantics had. I still found it an enjoyable read and look forward to future books from this incredible author. And now onto the small spoilery part of my review.

So I’ll start with what I loved about this book; I loved the cross over of characters from The Dead Romantics into this story. Benji is engaged and the couple of times he’s mentioned just made me so happy to see what he’s up to. I love that Ashely seems to love The Princess Bride as much as I do because she has quoted it again in this story.

The friendship between Clementine and Drew and Fiona was really lovely and I enjoyed the dynamics of their friendship. As for the romance between Lemon and Iwan… it felt a bit awkward and rushed. I know there’s a difference between times in the story but it felt like no real time had passed before she was in love with him and he with her. I would have liked their relationship to be explored a bit longer before getting there. I really enjoyed the time travel element of this book and it was easy to follow timelines. I loved Lemons character and really felt I could relate to her. Iwan is no Benji though. And it’s unfair for me to compare them so I will say that I liked his growth throughout the story. Both he and Lemon challenged each other and that was special.

I wanted more of Analea. Her characters description was very interesting to me. I wonder if one day the author might pop back to this world and write about her time travels.

The story wasn’t weighed down by strict rules of what not to do when going back in time. I enjoyed that the story gave Lemon room to be in both worlds and not afraid of messing up history. It was confined to her experience in the apartment.

My most favourite aspect of Ashely’s writing is how enveloped I get with the story and characters and I find myself looking forward to being able to sit and enter the world she has created. I find it so comforting and easy to get lost in her books and it makes me so excited to see what else she has in store for us.

Thank you again to HQ and Netgalley for the ARC. It was such a pleasure to read and review this book.

Loved the concept of this, like "The Dead Romantics' the magical realism elements worked well with and the characters were compelling.

Her relationship with her aunt and its impact on her own identity was beautifully written, there were some really heartbreaking lines that have stuck with me since finishing.

The writing is brilliant and manages to make for quick reading whilst still developing the characters. Although I would have enjoyed more exploration of was Iwan's experience waiting seven years to see Clementine again as it's such a fascinating idea but it wasn't discussed much between the characters.

Overall an amazing read and can't wait to read more from Ashley Poston!

Book Review📚
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First, thank you to @netgalley @netgalley for my advance copy of this read for my honest review.

When I started this book I didn’t know how to feel about it, I thought I wasn’t going to like it but I continued on it was actually a really cute book.

I loved Clementine and her nickname Lemon, 🥰 this love story was very sweet. And I thought it turned out to be a cute story of finding oneself after grief and coming into their own and what it means to be happy in your own skin.

The only thing that annoyed me with this ARC was the way the pages, chapter names and paragraphs were set up. The reading sometimes was hard to follow because it was so choppy. Not sure if it was done purposely but I do understand it is a non edited proof.

Other than that I would definitely recommend for those who love a sweet quick love story.

Check it out. Coming to your shelves soon!

And as always, happy reading! 💕

Once again, I have fallen in love with an Ashley Poston book! After absolutely loving The Dead Romantics, I could not wait to read this book and it absolutely did not disappoint one bit. I adored the characters, each and every one of them! I loved hearing about Clementine's aunt and their relationship throughout, I loved the relationship Clementine had with her friends and of course, I loved hers & Iwan's relationship too. I found myself smiling throughout all their interactions. The storyline was such a fab concept, It isn't something I would usually read but I knew that Ashley Poston could do it justice. It was written so beautifully and had so many elements of emotions, humour, heartbreak, romance, passion and it was all written in such a perfect blend. I also just want to add that the writing regarding grief was so beautifully done! Absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.. I cannot wait for any future books written by this author!

This book only solidifies my previous statement that “AP needs to only write adult romance novels from now on.”

Once again, she has created a really magical relationship between two characters. And while the plot of this story isn't based in reality, the way Clementine and Iwan develop and connect with each other is very real and heartwarming.

Which is why I wanted more of them! In the end, I was left begging for more romance. This is definitely more of a women's fiction kind of story as a lot of page time is dedicated to Clementine's bond with her aunt, trying to figure out her life goals, her career, and her friends. And so, because of that, there wasn't enough Clementine + Iwan content to satisfy my romance needs. Which is such a massive bummer because their plotline is *chefs kiss.*

But I still really loved the concept and there are a lot of adorable moments along the way! So here's me begging for another AP novel as soon as possible!

Poston does a good job of setting up a supernatural mystery with emotional resonance. I did feel that there was not enough suspense whether they would be able to get together or not. Then again, the point is not so much of the circumstances of their situation, but them coming to grips with their past and present selves to accept the future.

The book will appeal to fans of Postons other novels as well as Casey McQuinston.

I was a big fan of Dead Romantics so was excited to get this ARC. I really liked the concept, and glad that the story didn’t stretch out the characters meeting in real time - I wish there was more written of the main couple and their interactions, as it felt a little like Insta love. The main characters laments a little too much about where she wants to go and do in life that’s it was repetitive in places. As this is an ARC, it just needed some polishing up but I’m still adding it to my list of books to buy
