This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
I give this book 4.5 stars

Clementine West has a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, take no risks. And it’s been working.
That is until one day she finds a strange man standing in her kitchen. A man with kind eyes, a crooked smile, and a recipe for the perfect lemon meringue pie. The kind of man that, before everything, she could have fallen for . . .
He’s perfect but for one thing……..

Told entirely from Clementines POV this is a captivating and unique contemporary romance with a magical element twist (no spoilers from me)
.An intriguing and well written story filled with the perfect balance of falling in love, dealing with grief and following your dreams.
There are lots of things l loved about this particular book…..
A New York setting
The pigeons names
Mouth watering food discussions
Writing books
Eclectic characters
Right place,wrong time
I loved Dead Romantics and I think this will be a big hit too!
With thanks to Netgalley,Ashley Poston and HQ Women’s Fiction for my chance to read and review this book

The Dead Romantics was one of my favourite books of 2022 and I think the same can be said for The Seven Year Slip in 2023.

There were some elements of the story that were a tad predictable but then others I didn't see coming at all. Really interesting concept, great execution, amazing characters and a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Ashley Poston's latest books are becoming my go to Christmas gifts for all my bookish friends!

Thank you Netgalley and HQ for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Edit: I had to edit my review, because I originally rated this 4.75⭐️ but I have literally not stopped thinking about this book and my review since I finished it. I needed to make sure my review reflected that.

I think it’s safe to say that Ashley Poston is now an auto-buy author for me. I just adore how she writes her characters. Did I predict most of the stories twists and turns? Yes. But I still found this to be such a delight and so SO hard to put down.
There’s a little bit of the ‘there’s only one bed’ trope. There’s a lot of timey-whimey discourse due to Clementine’s magical apartment that at random times can transport you through time by 7 years. I can’t talk too much about the plot of the book without getting into spoiler territory, just know that I was hooked and so so intrigued to see how the story panned out. If you’re intrigued by the synopsis, you won’t be disappointed. I loved this so much, it’s hard to put into words.

If you enjoyed movies like About Time or the book/any of the adaptions of The Time Travellers Wife, I think this book would be up your alley. Also, if you enjoyed the Dead Romantics, you’ll be delighted to know this is set in the same universe (hello Benji Andor cameo and brief appearance of Florence as well)!!!

I genuinely wish I had a finished copy so I could see all of my annotations already because boy oh boy did I annotate my electronic copy so much lol
Catch me in line on release day trying to get a finished copy in my hands because I just ADORE this book so much.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.

In this magically romantic book, Clementine lives in the apartment of her recently deceased aunt. Her life is filled with work and the grief she feels for the loss of her aunt. Clementine is shocked when she comes home one day to find a stranger in the apartment, as well as all her aunt’s old furniture. She soon realizes those stories her aunt told her about the magical apartment were true and the stranger, Iwan, is living life 7 years in the past.

Clementine begins to look forward to Iwan’s sporadic time travel visits and falls in love with the handsome aspiring chef, though she knows they can’t be together. In the present day, their lives begin to collide, but Iwan is 7 years older now and has changed from the boy she fell in love with.

I absolutely fell in love with Iwan myself. I wish the latter part of the story had more interaction with the older Iwan, but it was still so good. A great follow up to Ashley Poston’s wonderful “The Dead Romantics”.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this complimentary ARC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

4.25/5 stars! I really enjoyed "The Dead Romantics" by this author so I was really excited to read this book. Ashley has such a unique way of taking contemporary romances and putting them on their head. In this story, we see love interests that are trapped across time (think "Lake House") but perfect for each other. The chemistry was strong and I loved getting to see Clementine and Iwan grow together. There were both laughter and tears in this story and I can't wait to see what the author writes next.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review

Ash Poston is becoming one of my favourite authors. The Dead Romantics was my favourite book of 2022, and I was beyond thrilled to receive The Seven Year Slip to review.

In a nutshell, this book is a perfect love story. You will fall in love with the characters and their story.

Thank you to @netgalley @heyashposton @hqstories and @harpercollins for my ARC of The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston.

The Dead Romantics was one of my favorite books from last year. I remember being so HAPPY as I read it. When I read a book that I love, I often remember where I was as I read it. That was the case with The Dead Romantics…sitting by a creek in Vermont, adoring the story of Florence Day.

To say I was excited when I received an early copy of The Seven Year Slip is an understatement. I love how authors like Carley Fortune, Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez and Ashley Poston create characters with depth.

The Seven Year Slip is a novel that is abundant with love and loss.

This is the story of Clementine (Lemon) who has endured a recent tragedy. Clementine is in her aunt’s apartment one day when a random man shows up. You see, the apartment has the ability to go back in time. Clementine finds herself falling for this man but how will she find him in the present day and can she let herself be vulnerable to love? If she finds him, will the timing be right?

One of my favorite quotes from this story is that “love is never a matter of time but a matter of timing.”

Themes explored in this book include being true to oneself, love, heartbreak, and hope.

Ashley Poston is an auto-buy author for me. Even though I received an early copy I have already purchased a version for me to personally have on my shelves.

When I saw that the author of The Dead Romantics, Ashley Poston, had a new book coming out, I knew that I needed to read it. This book was just as charming as its romance predecessor with a supernatural twist.

This book follows Clementine West, a book publisher in New York City. She used to spend her summers traveling the world with her aunt, but when the unthinkable happened she resorted to putting all of her time into her work. She moves into a new apartment when something odd happens, she wakes up one day to a man in her apartment. She gets to know him and begins to enjoy her time with him. However, it turns out that he’s living 7 years in the past.

Ashley Poston truly wrote a book embodying right person, wrong time and I was instantly hooked. The Seven Year Slip was just such a lovely book, I found myself attached to almost every character. The main character, Clementine grew so much throughout the book and I just couldn’t wait to find out how things ended for her.

Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for sending me an ARC for The Seven Year Slip.

I received an e-arc of The Seven-Year Slip by Ashley Poston from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked this but I think I liked The Dead Romantics a tiny bit more. I will def continue to pick up Ashley Poston's romances, this author has such a way with words.
The story deals with grief as a main topic (tw for suicide). I thought the feelings of grief were portrayed well, and that grieving is not a linear experience. While grief and sadness are the main themes of the story, there are also hopeful feelings for the future and a sweet romance.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5!

The perfect spring/summer read. This storyline was so intriguing and complex. The exploration of Clementine’s relationship with her aunt & her grief was incredibly poignant and heart breaking. This book was a slow burn romance with elements of second chances & wrong timing.

It started out slow but quickly picked up as we saw Iwan & Clementine’s relationship develop. Their witty banter & talks about food & favorite meals made me so nostalgic. I loved that we got to see not just their relationship over time, but how they both changed as people. I loved how Poston explored what it looks like to change & force yourself to fit in with society’s expectations. The epilogue was the perfect bow on top to end the story. Will definitely be buying this book when it’s released on 6/27! BRB while I go find a slice of lemon pie!

Time travel books are not my thing. I usually actively avoid them. There are a few exceptions for favorite authors and that is how I ended up reading The Seven Year Slip. I adored The Dead Romantics and had to read Poston's next book. To be honest, I didn't love this book as much as that one, but I still got caught up in the writing and enjoyed it.

The Seven Year Slip took me a bit to get into. I was expecting more of a romance than women's fiction. I should have remembered that is not how Poston writes her adult novels. They are women's fiction with a side of romance. Therefore, it takes longer for the main character, Clementine, to meet Iwan. The beginning is more a setup of Clementine's life and where she is in at the moment. It took me a bit to get into this one because Iwan wasn't involved for a bit. I wasn't truly invested in the story until Iwan entered the picture. Then, things started to fly for me.

Clementine is a woman grieving the loss of her aunt and the time they have now lost together. She's moved into her late aunt's apartment and it's stirring up all sorts of memories and things. I liked Clementine's journey of self-discovery in this one. It's subtle, but also has a big impact. There's something to learn from her growth and her relationship (in both times) with Iwan.

This is Clementine's story, so we only get to know Iwan through her eyes and interactions with him. I liked his character and the differences between the past Iwan and the present one. I loved Clementine's moments with Iwan and how I could feel their attraction. It was fun to experience them getting to know each other through food and stories. I know the romance was the side piece to this story about grief and growth, but I really wish I would have gotten more time with them together. Because their times were split between past and present, I had a harder time believing the big L-word when it came up.

I know I said I don't love time travel, but it worked for me in this book. I enjoyed Clementine visiting Iwan in the past more than I expected. Part of that was where Poston put those moments in the story and the other part was the magical apartment. Those two things combined with how fun Clementine and Iwan were together made it more than bearable for me. They made it fun.

Overall, reading The Seven Year Slip was fun. Once I was invested, I was addicted. I loved the characters, and the way food and books played a part in the story. I also thought the author did a nice job in writing a book dealing with grief and moving on. It was interesting to read Poston's author's note at the end about how she used her own grief when writing this book.

This is one of the best books I have EVER read, I felt like my body and soul were wrapped inside this magical story the whole time I was reading. The Seven Year Slip is a captivating and gorgeous novel about a summer in New York City – or two summers, actually – that changes everything. I loved every second.

What if you met a person, in your own apartment, who lives seven years in the past? And you started looking forward to meeting them again – you see, you never know if or when it will happen again – while at the same time continuing living your life in the present. And your present feels overwhelmingly sad at times because you have suffered a great loss and don’t know how to go on. What then?

The Seven Year Slip asks these questions and then goes about finding the answers to them in the most charming, beguiling, heartwarming and tender way – while also letting you know that not everything in life needs an answer or a solution and that that is okay, too. Change can be scary but it can also be a good thing - and sometimes it all just comes down to the right timing.

“That was love, wasn't it? It wasn't just a quick drop – it was falling, over and over again, for your person. It was falling as they became new people. It was learning how to exist with every new breath. It was uncertain and it was undeniably hard, and it wasn't something you could plan for.”

After a beginning where I just wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the story, Clementine finally met Iwen and the magic happened. From that point forward, I was hooked and could not quit reading. The seven year swaps of time centered around the apartment were intriguing, and Iwen was a complete charmer. The emotion grew unexpectedly, not just as a romantic story, but in a way that caused teary moments and empathy for the characters.

In short, I went from ambivalent to loving it in a short span of reading. Even then, I could excuse the beginning by saying that it reflects Clementine’s life, pre-Iwen. Im not going to accept that, though. But- The author skillfully sustained the high interest level until the end. I loved it. 4.5 stars only because if the beginning, rounding up to 5.

Wow!!! This is the best book I’ve read in such a long time. It’s got genius level plotting, wonderful characters who just leapt off the page. I would happily read this again but now I’ve got a book hangover as nothing is going to compare to this now. Move over Emily Henry! Ashley Poston is the real deal.

Imagine living in an apartment and slowly falling in love with your surprise roommate. An excellent cook, flirty banter and a complete sweetheart all with a delightful Southern Accent - Iwan is the perfect match to workaholic Clementine. Big problem is, Iwan lives 7 years in the past.

This is my first book from Ashley Poston and I won't lie, I'm not blown away...

HOWEVER, it was still a fun and easy read that I did enjoy overall, and I'd definitely recommend it to fans of authors like Lucy Score and Ella Maise.

What I Enjoyed :
◉ The main couple - I enjoyed the relationship between Clementine and Iwan, and the chemistry between them was instantaneous. Their banter felt so natural and realistic. I'd have loved to get an epilogue of them further in the future.
◉ The premise - I found myself with so many questions that I had to read as fast as possible to find out what was going on. How much did Iwan know, would Clementine and Iwan reunite in the present??? Ashley Poston definitely has you turning the pages of her book at breakneck speed.
◉ Heartwarming moments - did I cry into my pillow at 11pm because of this book? Yes, I did. This book felt so REAL at times and I applaud Ashley Poston for making me cry in less than 300 pages.
◉ Character development - Clementine and Iwan's character development together and separately was very interesting to read, and felt so realistic.

What I Did Not Enjoy :
◉ The execution - the romance felt rushed at times and we were told rather than shown a lot of things, which is my biggest pet peeve in a romance novel. For me to fully invest the couple, I want to see them falling in love. There was also a lot of focus on past events - a little bit too much in my opinion - and I found it kept taking me out of the story. Ashley Poston set the story up really well but then we kept returning to Clementine's past with her aunt and I really didn't care at that point.
◉ Trigger warning - there is a brief mention of suicide and it was poorly used in my opinion. It felt like it was used as shocking twist and then swept under the rug with a few comments made here and there, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I received an advanced copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I first encountered Ashley Poston’s writing relatively recently when someone recommended The Dead Romantics, which was not at all what I expected.

The Seven Year Slip is the story of Clementine, a publicist at a publishers who spends more time working and perfecting her art than getting a life. Her beloved aunt has recently died, leaving her the apartment she lived in for many years. However, as she was so fond of telling her niece, the apartment is special. At certain times you will find that you are no longer in the apartment in the present, but seven years in the past.

Grieving for her aunt, she is more than a little surprised to arrive home one day to find a stranger in her apartment. It turns out, this stranger is not in her apartment now, this seven-year slip has happened and whoever this strange man is, he’s someone Clementine has already met.

As the story continues, we learn more about Iwan, this ambitious man who is the son of a friend of Clementine’s aunt. And though she does her best to resist, there is something inexplicable linking them. She is fighting it, but her feelings for Iwan are growing.

Meanwhile, in her life outside the time slip, Clementine realises she doesn’t want to be the person she has been working towards, despite the fact that her boss has lined her up for a massive promotion at the publishers where she has been working for the last seven years. She has been working to try and persuade an up-and-coming celebrity chef, James, to write his new recipe book with her publishers.

As Clementine and Iwan in the past/present grow closer, and Clementine in the present realises she is no longer as happy in her job, she is also building a bond with this chef who initially appears to be cold towards her…but there is a very good reason for that if you believe in coincidences!

I guessed the twist relatively early on in my reading of the book, however, this did not take away from my enjoyment, nor did it stop me from rooting for Clementine. The idea that she would get some kind of happily ever after, whatever that looked like for her, was everything.

It was a fun read, scattered with moving moments, and though it did rely quite heavily on the old adage “it’s a small world” she’s not wrong.

The number seven is a very common factor in this book, making me wonder if it’s in any way connected with the common saying about the replication of our cells and how we’re not the same person we were seven years ago. Of course, this saying is bunkum, but the idea of it is wonderful.

Overall, an enjoyable book that makes me want to reread The Dead Romantics again. The concept is creative, it was a time travel book without all the messy ‘You can’t meet yourself in the past/future’ elements, because it was restricted to that one specific moment and that one particular location.

Best named pigeons EVER!

Perfect romance with a bit of time warp twist.
Ever since she was a child, Clementine's aunt told her that the apartment had a touch of magic. Clementine inherits the apartment ... and low and behold ...

I really enjoyed The Seven Year Slip; after a few chapters, I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

Ashley Poston has written The Dead Romantics and a dozen or so other novels, but The Seven Year Slip was the first book that I've read by her. I'll definitely be looking for additional books by Ashley Poston!

Thank you to NetGalley, especially for (yet again) introducing me to a "new to me" author. Thank you to Ashley Poston and HQ Publishing for approving my request to review the advance read copy in exchange for an honest review. Loved it!

OUT 4 JULY 🧡

When I seen this on Netgalley I pounced! Having read Dead Romantics last year (and loving it) I couldn’t wait to read The Seven Year Slip.

Guys, it did NOT disappoint!

We follow Clementine as she is going through arguably one of the worst moments in her life to date. She’s tired, sad and lives to work. But something’s just not right… she just needs to figure out how to fix it.

To top it all off, each time she returns to her apartment and walks through the door, she doesn’t know if she will be thrown back in time. Seven years ago to be precise, where she met someone very special and every time she leaves she doesn’t know when she will see them again.

It’s hard to say much more about this book without giving away too much. And not knowing anything really about this is the best way to go into it. You could say that this book is a romance, but honestly it’s so much more. It tackles grief, friendship, love, self-care and putting yourself first.

Let’s just say there were tears… and any book that forces them out is a 5 star read for me! Pick it up guys!

*special thanks to @netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
