A romance with a slightly magical element is not normally my cup of tea, but after reading and loving Dead Romantics, I obviously had to try this one out too.
Clementine is still reeling after an event 6 months ago when she stumbles into her flat one day and ends up being 7 years in the past and accidentally sharing the flat with Iwan, who rented the flat for the summer.
Cue the romance with a twist. In present life Clementine now wants to know where Iwan is, but struggles to find him until one day he pops back into her life.
I loved the premise of this one and thought the whole plot was very well throughout and executed, my mind is blown as to how the author pulled this off.
The romance was sweet and I enjoyed how the characters interacted, but I felt like I needed more time with them together.
There was a sad side plot that has potential triggers, so be weary of that, but overall I enjoyed this one.

Very much looking forward to reading, reviewing, and acquisition of this title. I will be sharing a full review and thoughts in the bea4 future, but the premise really spoke to me. I really enjoyed her previous novel The DeadvRomantics. Her novels give romance with a bit of a twist whuch is really fun. Clementine falls in love after heartbreak…with a man from the past. Seven years to be exact. I love how the lesson of this book is it all comes down to timing, no truer words could be said. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This book blew me away! It is beautiful, funny, magical, heartwarming. I loved the way it shows grief and hope.

Clementine inherits her aunt’s apartment after her death. Clementine is devastated by the loss and consumed with grief. Her aunt told her that the apartment was magical. Clementine soon finds out that it takes you seven years in the past or future, and finds a man living there that she’s never met.
Iwan is her new roommate and is wanting to be a chef. He cooks for her and they talk about their dreams for the future.
Clementine falls in love with Iwan from the past and struggles with her feelings when she runs into his future self in her present time.

I loved watching the character development. Trying to figure out what they really want from life, even when they “had it all”.

Ashley Poston’s books are so unique, and that’s what makes me love them the most.
She writes her characters with such emotion, you feel like you know them and feel all their emotions with them. And you fall in love with them. I can’t wait to see what her next book will be!

First off many many thanks to HQ and Netgalley for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The Dead Romantics was one of my favourite books of 2022 and so I was eagerly anticipating Ashley Poston's next novel The Seven Year Slip. I was not disappointed as once I began reading I didn’t want to put it down until it was finished and then wanted to read it all over again.

The main story follows Clementine and Iwan as they meet in the NYC magical apartment Clementine inherited from her aunt, which happens to bend time in such that present and past come together.

Much like The Dead Romantics themes of love and loss are wonderfully explored as we see how grief has impacted both Clementine and Iwan while falling for each other at different points and a wonderful plus we stay within the publishing world and get a special treat of a cameo from Benji! Overall while the story was bit predictable at times I thoroughly enjoyed this romance, Ashley writes so beautifully that it’s as easy as pie to be so invested in these characters and it's dash of magic!

Clementine is grieving the loss of her aunt. Her aunt's apartment has been left to her. It's a place she loves. In getting settled in, she realizes someone else is staying there. Iwan has also been given permission to stay at the apartment. Clementine soon figures out there is a twist to her roommate - He's seven years in the past. Clementine's aunt told her often about the magic of the apartment, and this is the first time she's experienced it firsthand. This is a story that has a lot of layers - grief, love, finding your purpose, losing your purpose, and how relationships twist and turn through the years. It was such a unique premise, and I found myself rooting for Clementine and Iwan in a variety of ways. While a magical story, this was also a real story of the emotions of relationships, loss, and (re)connection. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this July 2023 release.

I wanted to enjoy this book, a cute premise, but ultimately I was frustrated by the lack of proper explanation for things that had happened. Obviously the book jumps about a bit because of the time travel element but the characters were not explored in enough depth to explain the changes over the course of their lives. I thought the grief and sense of loss was well written but at the end of the book I had too many questions and the epilogue was frustratingly vague! With thanks for the free copy NetGalley but not the book for me!

This was such a sweet and heartfelt story! She addresses grief so beautifully and I just did not want this book to end! If you loved The Dead Romantics, then you will love this title as well! I can’t wait to purchase a physical copy once it releases officially!

The Seven Year Slip is one of those books you read over and over again, it's the embodiment of a hug. Ashley Poston has once again written a beautiful story filled with romance and magic while still being grounded in reality, with Clementine dealing with grief, loss and the uncertainty of her future, along with the really sweet relationship with her roommate (living seven years in the past). This was a really fun concept, similar to The Dead Romantics, which was one of my favourite romance reads of 2022. I'm looking forward to reading whatever the author comes up with next!

Ooo the Seven Year Slip is good. Stick-with-me kind of good. I’m sure I’ll think back on this book with fondness as it was a unique twist on a pretty simple love story. Timing is everything. And Iwan is perfect and I just moved the concept of falling in love with someone in a different place in time while you both exist in your own times… it felt unique! The only reason The Seven Year Slip didn’t get 5 stars from me is because there were some parts that the pacing felt a little off, and the story dragged a little. I understand the copy I read is in phases of editing, and I imagine the final copy will be a bit tighter. Overall, book gave me a lot of feels, was a pretty deep romance I really enjoyed, and I highly recommend!

The TW of suicide caught me a bit off guard so I want to note that for future readers.
Thank you to NetGalley, Ashley Poston and HQ at Harper Collins for the gifted arc for me to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and given voluntary.

“If you don’t fit in, fool everyone until you do. She also said to keep your passport renewed, to pair red wines with meats and whites with everything else, to find work that is fulfilling to your heart as well as your head, to never forget to fall in love whenever you find it because love is nothing if not a matter of timing, and to chase the moon. Always, always chase the moon.”

4.5 stars
I absolutely adored Ashley Poston's The Dead Romantics, so I was incredibly excited to read The Seven Year Slip and it did not disappoint.
This was a really unique take on the time travel romance genre.
I wasn't completely convinced with them both falling for one another almost instantaneously when they first find one another in the apartment. From the dancing to the way that they immediately opened up to one another, when it's obvious that Clementine isn't really like that, was a bit too insta-love for me.
There was also quite a bit of repetition when it came to certain descriptions and parts, that took me away from the magic of the story.
But I adored the New York City setting and in particular it being mostly set during the summer, as well as the "Lemon" nickname, which was cute.
It was nice to see the difference in Iwan/James all those years later as this felt realistic and additionally, I liked the subplot of them trying to acquire his book.
I'm definitely a fan of Ashley Poston's writing and it was nice to see a nod to Benji in this as well.
I certainly look forward to what she does next.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am convinced that Ashley Poston is the most creative romance writer in the field.

I devoured The Seven Year Slip and was amazed how--as with The Dead Romantics--she found an utterly unique perspective within the genre.

This book follows Clementine and Iwan, who are brought together by a New York apartment that magically slips its inhabitants back and forth through time. Both are grappling with career decisions that leave them questioning how to balance ambition and happiness. Similar to The Dead Romantics, this book also dealt with grief as a sub theme.

As much as I adored this book, I've always found time travel to wreak havoc on the logical consistency of a plot. I happily suspend disbelief when the writing is this good, but there were a few head scratchers.

Overall, I highly recommend!

I was so excited to read this book because The Dead Romantics was my top read of 2022, and I couldn’t wait to read whatever Ashley Poston wrote next. I was so nervous to read this book because TDR was my top read of 2022, and I was scared whatever came next wouldn’t live up to it. Well, Ashley Poston is masterful, and this book was everything I could have hoped for. The magical realism, the poignant navigating of grief and growth and change, the hope and desire to find and appreciate the joy in life…this book delivered on all of it. I’m so glad books like this exist.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Berkley for the opportunity to review this as an ARC. I read Ashley Poston's book- The Dead Romantics and liked it so I was interested in her newest book- The Seven Year Slip. Like the previous book, you have to accept some magical, mystical ideas to fully enjoy the book. I have no problems with that:).In some ways it is reminiscent of the movie Lake House. Although, I must say, I liked this book much more than Lake House. Clementine lives in NY and is in publishing. She is in a good place professionally- her boss is about to retire and will recommend Clementine for her position. Personally it is another story. She recently went through a breakup, and has no one new in sight. Her rent has just been raised. And, far worse, her beloved aunt has passed away. Her Aunt has left Clementine her apartment, so Clementine moves in. Clementine and her Aunt had been partners in travel for several years, always going away together on adventures.Once , however, her Aunt told her the story of her apartment. The apartment had a quirk, sometimes it was "pinched in time" and current and past residents found themselves in the same apartment in an alternate time frame. Her aunt gave Clementine 2 pieces of advice regarding the apartment- always take your shoes off and don't fall in love in the apartment.
After Clementine moves in, she comes home one day to find a strange young man in the kitchen. He says his mother is a friend of her aunt, and he is staying there until he gets a place of her own, while her aunt is traveling. The calendar on the wall shows it is 7 years earlier. Clementine falls for the man, an aspiring chef named Iwan. She tries to heed her aunts warning, but there is a pull between them.Clementine spends time in both time frames, never cure which version of the apartment she will find. In the current time frame , she is busy professionally, trying to get a celebrity chef to commit to her publishing company for his cookbook. While it may seem obvious where things are headed, the story is engaging and captivating. It is fun and romantic. It combined magic, romance and food- what a winning combination.

If you love a romance then this book is for you. Another time travelling romance. Which is done well. It is written well and I loved the storyline and premise.

I absolutely adored this time slip novel! Who wouldn't want an apartment that could bring you seven years in the past where you meet the man of your dreams. Clementine's beloved aunt has just passed away and now she has inherited her apartment. The apartment has a quirk, it can take you into the past by seven years, however there is no way to control it. Clementine finds herself traveling into the past where she meets Iwan. He is handsome, charming, and can cook. She finds herself falling in love. The only problem is they are not living in the same time period. She also wonders where he is in her current time period and why he hasn't come looking for her. When she does find him he is definitely not the same Iwan from the apartment. Plus she is at a precipice for her job. She has a chance for a promotion but is it what she really wants and could her past relationship with Iwan have an impact on her future?

This novel is a great escape from whatever is going on in your life. I found myself up all night not wanting to stop reading to find out how their story was going to end. The romance in the novel is on point and I also thought the novel had a great message about following your dreams. This is a wonderful, charming, and delightful read!

Thank you to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for this advanced copy for an honest review.

Firstly I would like to thank HQ and the author Ashley Poston for access to the seven year slip.

The review I am going to make is an honest review regardless of the access I received for this book. It should be noted I was not paid for this review and ensure honesty in all my reviews.

Clementine had an awful day and decided she needed to take no risks with her work or life and so far it’s worked. A strange man standing in her kitchen who lives in the past but he could be perfect,

Time travel romance is always a big favourite of mine and this was done very well. Mostly predictable but I am not complaining as sometimes you need a comfortable read.

I love the concept of this book - time travel romance being a particular favorite of mine; so I was beyond delighted to get an early copy of this book (thanks NetGallery and HQ). In real terms, the execution of this concept into a story brings a real mix of brilliance and mundanity - there was a lot of predictability, but a few minor surprises too; and there were also parts which had me tearing up or riveted, alongside other parts which had me bored and skipping; I loved the time travel, but some elements just didn't add up: In summary, for the most part, this story didn't disappoint, but it's also not the best time travel story I have read either! It's out on June 27, 2023.

I would like to thank HQ and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dead Romantics was my favorite romance last year and I feel truly honored for having the possibility to read this book prior to its release.
What can I say about ”The seven year slip”? I liked it even more than the authors debut.

This book follows the story of Clementine, who inherits her aunts apartment after her death. They were very close and used to travel the world together every year.
Clementine is devastated by the loss and consumed with grief. Luckily, the apartment is magical and takes you seven years in the past or future when you find yourself at a crosswords, which is Clementine’s case.

I loved a ton of things about this book:
- The premise of the book is quite interesting and perfectly accomplished with Ashley’s beautiful and captivating writing
- It’s a story about grief, acceptance, self discovery and growth, enveloped with a cute romance and filled with hope.
- Clementine’s aunt was great and I loved to read about their relationship and her pieces of advice
”My aunt used to say, if you don’t fit, fool everyone until you do. She also said to keep your passport renewed, to pair red wines with meat and whites with everything else, to find work that is fulfilling to your heart as well as your head, to never forget to fall in love whenever you find it because love is nothing if not a matter of timing, and to chase the moon.”
- Iwan has my heart. He is the kind of hero that it’s impossible not to fall in love with.
- I liked how the nicknames would be related/ represent who the characters were at each moment. This was nicely done.

What I think it could have been done better:
- Despite her aunt’s brilliant life advices, it appeared that Clementine completely forgot the bit regarding the timing of love and focused only on the house rules, to the point I also forgot she mentioned something about love before. This felt weird and I think it would have been beautiful to connect their relationship with her aunt true recommendations/ beliefs.
- Although I’m quite convinced about the romance with Iwan of the past, the romance on the present felt to insta for me. Clementine is always remarking about how different he is from the Iwan she knows and is falling for. I feel the book needed more present scenes of Iwan and Clementine to convince me they would work out and this is the main reason why I dropped one star.

The seven year slip will be published in July 4th and I absolutely recommend it.

Time travel is one of my favorite plot devices, especially when a romance is involved. I read every book in this category that I can find, and I don't think I've ever come across a time travel situation quite like this.
Our girl Clementine is holding steadfast to her career path, trying to avoid dealing with the trauma of losing her aunt. Does she care that she can't even explain why she wants to be in her job as a publicist? She doesn't seem to. Luckily she has inherited her aunt's apartment, and soon realizes that the magic her aunt described is the real deal. She meets hot, kind, passionate-about-his-goals Iwan and her priorities might be up for discussion. Only problem is that Iwan is stuck in a version of the apartment from seven years ago. Where is he now, in Clementine's present?
Yes I found most of the twists in this book predictable, but in a comforting way. I read it in a single sitting and was totally satisfied by the direction of the narrative and the ending. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
