This book is a cute and creative way to start the conversation about race and representation with children, but I find it very trite. The font is hard to read, the plot is really basic even for young kids and the characters (two) have no depth. I think even a trip to the store to get fudgesicles can create a bit more of a story and less two sentences on every page.

Beautiful illustrations. And I loved the beauty in all shades; to be proud and to love yourself, for all little girls.

Oh this is a beautiful book that celebrates multicultural diversity! Furthermore, this book acknowledges our differences that are each unique and beautiful in their own way. Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is special. They see so much that as adults we don’t see or turn a blind eye too. I loved the description this little girl gave to each of her loved ones as she tried to pick her frozen treat. The celebration of intersectionality was also noticeable.

This book is bright and colorful. I found it so alluring that I had to snag a copy and read it immediately! Thank you for the complimentary access to the ARC via NetGalley!
