I really loved this book! It has The Holiday vibes and is like a big cuddle in a book. Sure, you know how the book is going to end from page 1, but I didn’t care one jot!! It was lovely, made me smile, made me cry. It has all the feels and I would definitely recommend it as a light, comforting, hot chocolate with marshmallows kinda book.
Beautifully sad. Such tender moments, tears as two people struggle to get up, put one foot in front of the other and get through their days coping with loss. Their dogs help keep them grounded, help them have a reason to keep going and mend their cracks. A lovely read that grabs your heart, squeezes it and ultimately leaves you believing in life.
I really enjoyed this book, one I would read again on the countdown to Christmas. A typical Christmas romance which had a lovely feel-good factor.
Everything you could want from a Christmas romance - two endearing lead characters, a scenic location, snow and a cosy cottage. It’s a heart-warming story about Rose and Charlie, strangers who both want to escape the Christmas festivities but end up having to make the best of sharing a holiday cottage together. I liked that it was written from both Rose and Charlie’s points of view. This is the first Emma Heatherington that I’ve read and it’s encouraged me to read more of her books.
Nothing says Happy Easter like reading a Christmas book lol. This would be an excellent book to read in the run up to Christmas as it does provide the festive feels and would be great to get you in the spirit.
I loved the main characters - they weren't perfect, but that held it's own appeal.
The only thing that made this a 4 rather than 5 star read was the obligatory misunderstanding / self sabotage before the HEA.
I really enjoyed this. A beautiful setting and great characters. A cosy Christmassy read. Highly recommended.
Such a lovely story, and not needed to be read at Christmas but it would definitely make a cosy Christmas read. I love how it was written with the lives of our 2 main characters being unfolded - very cleverly may I add - piece by piece. I found that I had to keep reading as I needed to know where it was going to end. Well written and some lovely scenic descriptions also to really get you 'there' with them.
Reading a Christmas book at the beginning of summer felt a bit odd but I got lost in the story pretty quickly. Charlie and Rose’s pain was raw and I felt it as I was reading. I could practically picture the cottage and the village and felt like I had been transported there. I zoomed through the book in a day and I was sad to say goodbye to the characters at the end. It makes me want to go to a village in Ireland during the holidays. This such a heartwarming book and I highly recommend it! Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy.
This is a beautifully written book. Rose and Charlie somehow end up in a double booked cottage for Christmas, when they had each been expecting a nice solitary getaway.
Their story is filled with both sadness and hope. It is the other characters, such as Rusty and his less than friendly wife, who make up so much of the story, with emotions dating back to family feuds. It is not just a 'romantic' story, but one of empathy, hurts and joys.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a review copy which I very much enjoyed.
I couldn't wait to read this beauty, what amazing characters and stories. This book is a must for the festive period, I cannot wait to read it again, curled up beside my own cosy fire and step into the Love, loss, inner turmoil and self discovery that is Rose..
I just reviewed This Christmas by Emma Heatherington. #ThisChristmas #NetGalley
Outstanding. I'll be sorry to not have it to read tonight, but couldn't put the book down! I was fully immersed in this from the start… fascinating!
My first Christmas book of the year and we are only in April. But I absolutely adored it. It transported me to the most magical and wonderful time of the year. I loved the storyline a s the characters and I felt like it was a big hug in book form.
When Christmas is no longer your thing and you don't want to be the Debbie Downer ruining the season for everyone, then you book yourself a cottage in a secluded space and prepare to hunker down throughout the "festive" season.
However, when someone else has exactly the same plan and end up at the same cottage as you, suddenly the "alone at Christmas" no longer is a possibility.
I love how Rose and Charlie awkwardly cope with the situation, sending text messages and leaving notes for each other in the kitchen - all in an effort to allow the other one to be alone.
As the story develops the many layers of the characters come to life and it's easy to get invested in their wellbeing and cheering them on! There is happiness, but also sadness in this story and some parts may be better read in privacy than on the commute...
I highly recommend this Christmas story, even in April!!
This Christmas by Emma Heatherington
Rose was a lover of Christmas , and that meant being enveloped in the centre of her family, but now she hasn't had that sort of Christmas for years.
So she decides to rent a cosy cottage and go alone to Donegal and Seaview Cottage seemingly fits the boot.
Charlie who will be alone for Christmas for the first time decides to get away from everything and chooses to go it alone Things don't quite ( understatement ) go to plan when they find out they are both staying there !
A perfect story for the season . Reminded me a little of the romantic film The Holiday so would probably make a good film. Throw in the beautiful scenery and it would be a winner.
This is definitely a book that has the love of Christmas and the characters, the storyline is easy to follow and keeps you captives from start to finish!
Firstly I would like to thank random house UK and the author Emma hetherington for access to this Christmas.
The review I am going to make is an honest review regardless of the access I received for this book. It should be noted I was not paid for this review and ensure honesty in all my reviews.
Even though it’s April it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Rose was a big Christmas fan and then one year everything changed and rose fell out of love with it and stopped visiting her family. Charlie is facing Christmas alone. They both end up renting the SAME cottage to get away too. Uh oh!
They were so broken as characters I was turning the page hoping to see them slowly building back up. I want to read more books like this.
Nothing like reading a Christmas book in the spring! I was expecting a typical girl meets boy read, but this book had me turning page after page - managed to finish it in 2 days. I loved it. The two main characters were both ‘broken’, different reasons but equally traumatic. I enjoyed how they managed to exist in the same cottage without breaking boundaries. It’s a recommend for me and I’ll keep an eye out for this author.
Nothing like a gorgeous Christmas story! I know everyone is looking forward to summer as am I but nothing beats curling up with a cozy winter novel even as the warm weather approaches. Emma’s book are stunning from the covers to the stories to the beautiful worlds she crafts. I can’t wait to read this tale of two strangers who accidentally are forced to share Christmas together and I know readers will 2! I will be shar8ng more soon.
