Erin and Jamie meet Sophia and Mark on honeymoon in Bali. The women are polar opposites: Sophie, chic and wordly; Erin unsophisticated and, in her own eyes, plain. On their last night, they go out for a meal and there is an altercation with another diner. Shortly afterwards there is a fatal accident. When the two couples return home, the events surrounding the accident haunt them. That is the basic plot but there is an awful lot going on under the surface. One husband appears scarily controlling and the other is obsessed with keeping watch on anyone coming near the house. The reasons for all of this unfold at the same time as enquiries are continuing into the death on Bali and many twists emerge right until the end. The uncertainties around the death and curiosity about how the marriages would pan out kept me reading to the end. However, there were moments that lacked plausibility, including the speed with which the two couples became friends and stayed in touch and events towards the end of the story. None of the key characters emerged as likeable so that the ending when it came was very dark. This is an enjoyable thriller if a tiny bit unconvincing in places and I would be keen to explore other titles by the same author.

Erin and Jamie are having an idyllic honeymoon on Bali. Meeting up with another couple of honeymooners, Sophia and Mark, they all get together for dinner at the exclusive Blue Fin restaurant, for a final meal before heading back to England and real life. However, that night brings more than a tropical storm into their lives.

Starting this book I felt is was very much of its genre and a typical beach read, and that I knew where the plot line was heading. However, as the story progressed it became more than your run of the mill holiday read, with some good characterisation and a twisty plot. The author did succeed in part to keep me guessing of who to believe and what, if anything, was the truth or gaslighting.

Not a mind blowing book, but an enjoyable, easy read.

Thank you NetGalley.

I'm very torn on how I feel about this book after finishing it. I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened, unable to put my Kindle down, but I just feel a little disappointed at the end.

I felt as though the author tried to hard to make the book and its characters as mysterious as possible throughout the entire book, with a hundred little theories and odd behaviours to keep you on your toes, and I feel like that might have worked, had she left it up to the reader to decide who really committed the murders. I feel like at least three characters had been set up nicely in a who-done-it way, but we were handed everything on a silver platter at the end. It kind of just felt a bit...flat to me.

Also, the writing style - the dialogue more specifically - was stunted at times. Erin stuttered or stammered quite a lot, but it was so awkwardly and stiffly done that it set my teeth on edge reading it. And it was the same unbelievable style every time; "w-w-what?" "s-s-sorry?" "w-w-why?" "n-n-no?" To me, this is how I used to write 'stuttering' when I was fourteen years old and trying my hand at writing for the first time. People don't tend to strip over their words like that in real life unless they have an actual stutter or an issue with their speaking.

Other than that, this story was fast paced and enjoyable. I think if you enjoy things like Eastenders, Emerdale, Cornation Street, you'll probably enjoy this. I personally wouldn't put this down as a thriller of any kind, it was more of a dramatic murder mystery.

Talk about a honeymoon they'll never forget!!

What a rollercoaster and I mean that in the literal sense. This book had so many twists and turns it was utterly captivating.

Admittedly when I started reading I honestly thought I could guess how the storyline would go... YEAH I was so wrong lol!

The characters were really diverse and you do kind of get a sense of who the bad guy is but then towards the end you are really left second guessing that.

The book on a whole was atmospheric and really addictive so it was hard to put down.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a creepy character or two and a good little thriller.

This will be a hit beach read.

It has everything, glorious locales and gritty psychological thrills.

I found parts of this a little predictable but it will be perfect for the beach.

I love a psychological thriller. This one starts off at a narrative pace that is very quick in order to set up what feels like an 'ordinary' situation of two couples meeting on honeymoon in Bali, and then for a sensational event to take place. I must admit, I found the characters cliched at first, but if you persevere past that, it's the part when they return to the UK where the *real* psychological thriller-ness comes into play and the writer gives us plenty of twists to make this novel into a page-turner. I think, had the set-up been better in the way of characterisation, the parts that followed would have been more effective. However, this is an easy read and there are some satisfying twists. My grateful thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

A great new psychological thriller from Kate Gray. From the very start we know there has been a body found which suggests more than an accident happened.

Erin and Jamie are on honeymoon in Bali where they meet Sophia and Mark another couple who have also just married. On the last night they all go out for dinner together at the Blue Fin restaurant where a nice evening soon turns sour.

When a body is found Sophia a journalist can't stop herself looking into this death further in the hopes to get her old job back. Although things are never all that they seem!

I liked how the book is told from both Erin and Sophia's point of view. As a reader you know more than most of the characters and throughout the book still had me guessing and turning pages to find out who the real culprit was.

I will be recommending this book to others and looking out for future books from this author

Wow, I couldn’t get enough of this book! I could not predict where is was going and kept sneaking opportunities to read it- I rarely do that these days! Erin and Sophia are intriguing, I couldn’t quite work out who was being honest, or who I liked and the book kept me guessing all the way. Perfect holiday read, but really easy to get into when you’re busy juggling life and the desire to escape into a book, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

What a brilliant first for Kate Grey! If this is her first attempt at a psychological thriller I can't wait to see how she develops as a writer. The book set initially in beautiful Bali with 2 couples on their honeymoon twists and turns with every chapter. I love the way the characters take turns narrating the chapters from their point of view. This keeps the reader guessing all the way through the book. All the characters have more secrets and tell more lies than your average corrupt politician. It's great fun keeping up with them all. I'm happy to recommend this book.
Thank you Netgalley, Wellbeck Publishing UK and Kate Grey for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

Oh my word – what a fabulous book! Twists and turns galore where your mind goes from ‘He did it!’ to ‘Oh no, she did it!’ right to the end. I absolutely loved it, and the ending was brilliant. A definite 5 stars from me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this riveting read.

Superb writing from this author, a very eye catching cover, this book will go far, 5 stars. Blindingly excellent ... These books should come with a disclaimer as once you start reading you aren’t going to want to walk away.

This was interesting it took me a while too get into it but then the story drew me in it was really gripping not knowing who to believe or what was going on things coming out that made you question your judgement and not knowing where the story was going it was great. Though there were a few things that i would have liked to hear both sides too i get for the story to go the way it did why we didnt.

i love the female characters as well sophia is stronger than she knows and bless Erin

Loved this book. It was full of twists and turns right up to the end.

Erin and Jamie meet Sophia and Mark in Bali while they are all on honeymoon. Although the couples don't seem to have anything in common, they hit it off and go for a meal together.

An altercation with another diner ruins the.night and changes one of the couples' lives from then on.

I liked the characters though Erin got on my nerves a bit, she was meant to I think. The story was gripping and a real page turner. Definitely recommend! 5🌟

“…they say that every marriage has secrets. I just had no idea ours would be so earth-shattering.”

You won’t know who thinks that. It could be any one of the two couples who meet on the last day of their Bali honeymoon. Sophia and Erin become fast friends poolside and Erin invites Sophia and Mark to join her and her new husband Jamie for dinner at an exclusive island restaurant. The evening ends with a sudden storm, some poor choices and a dead body. Back home in England, life does not go back to normal. Sophia begins a new job at a local paper while Mark, a mortgage broker, goes back to the office. Erin continues renovating their house, while Jamie returns to his security system business. The cracks in relationships start to appear and you will begin to wonder who, if anyone, has been telling the truth.

The Honeymoon is a twisty, dark thriller that is narrated by both Erin and Sophia. Clues are hidden everywhere and you will think you have figured out what really happened. Wait. Just Wait. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Welbeck Publishing UK and Kate Gray for this ARC.

What a book!
So many twists and turns and lots of unreliable narrators,
I liked Erin and Sophia didn’t really vibe with Jamie and the other one which says it’s all really.
Mark never answered the phone saying Mark speaking either.
The plot was really interesting and engaging.

An involving read that leads you in so many different directions. You are never sure who the actual villain of the piece is.

This book starts with two couples meeting for the first time whilst both of them are honeymoon on the Indonesian island of Bali. From there the location moves to England and the lives of the four of them become entwined. It then gradually transforms into a real who-done-it.
The book is a bit like an onion as practically every Chapter has a new aspect to the story. It's very well written and has four strong but very different multi faceted main characters whose lives are changed forever.
This isn't the sort of book I usually read,, but I'm glad I did as it's unquestionably the best I've read (so far) this year.
