I really enjoyed The Honeymoon. Full of twists and turns, I was kept on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Two English women, Erin Steele and Sophia Spencer, meet each other on a beach in Bali. They are both honeymooning with their respective husbands, Jamie and Mark.

On their last night in Bali, Erin invites Sophia, a casual acquaintance, and Mark to dine with them at an expensive restaurant, the Blue Fin. During dinner, there is an incident when a stranger, upon who Erin accidentally spills a drink, mocks her.

Later that night, there is a terrible storm. Jamie and Erin, too wrapped up in each other to worry about the storm, witness the fall and death of the man with whom they had a fracas just hours earlier. Afraid that they may be arrested for being responsible, they flee the scene. But the guilt follows them back home to England, where both couples become involved in each other’s lives.

Erin and Jamie hope there will be nothing to associate them with the death of the man in Bali. But Sophia is a journalist, and she’s chasing the scent. How long before she finds out that they might not be as innocent as they appear?

The book is written in the first-person present tense PoV of two women, Erin and Sophia, and one chapter each in the first person narrative of Jamie and Mark. At least one of these narrators was unreliable, and three were definitely dodgy. I would have liked it better if all four had secrets that could have got them in trouble.

Also, we are given the impression that the two couples hit it off well, but that’s not really true. There was no real connection between the two couples.

I could sense a strange sexual tension between Erin and Sophia and then between Jamie and Sophia.

At one point, Jamie asks a man in Bali, “Are you bribing us?” The right word that Jamie should have used was blackmail.

Other than this example of incorrect word usage, the book was mostly fine. There were very few lines that stood out for me. These rare exceptions were:

The middle of farmers’ fields – sky and land stitched together in such uninspiring flatness. A grid of straight lines and ploughed earth.’

The foreshadowing was cleverly done. But despite its twists and turns, and the fact that it leads us to suspect nearly everybody, I wasn’t quite satisfied with this one. It was easy to figure out who the culprit was.

Also, the book could have done without the Prologue, in which the author tries to entice us into the story using the second person PoV.

Two couples on holiday in Bali meet, both couples on honeymoon. It is the last night of their holiday, and to celebrate they go to a fancy restaurant, located on the side of a cliff. An enjoyable evening...ending up with a dead body!
The honeymoons of both couples are over, but so many secrets and lies have come to light, will the marriages be over as quickly as the honeymoons?
I found this an addictive read, I couldn't wait to find out what had happened, and who was lying to who. The twists and turns kept me guessing right up to the end. I will look for more books by this author.

Two happy couples.

One dead body.

A whole load of secrets.

Married life wasn't meant to start like this.

Book Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Firstly, I’d like to point blackmail and bribery are not the same thing. The author uses the wrong word consistently throughout the book. How the publisher hasn’t picked up on this is beyond me!

Overall, I quite enjoyed this one. It’s not going to set the world on fire but it’s the perfect beach read. It’s well paced with a satisfying ending.

Two couples Erin and Jamie and Sophia and Mark are both on their honeymoon in Bali. When Erin meets Sophia and invites her and Mark to attend dinner with her and Jamie that night, she is hopeful this could be the start of a budding friendship. That evening a man dies, both couples return home and things begin to take a weird turn. Erin and Jamie were the last two people to see that man alive.

Generally I enjoyed this book, I found the start very slow to start and the pace felt off, It was hard not to wonder how this was going to develop into anything when at first it seemed like it would portray Erin and how the end of the honeymoon has been impacted her character. It wasn’t until around 50/60% that things started to become more interesting. There were many twists and turns in the book and I thought the way the book tied to an end was quite clever.

Two couples meet on the last night of their respective honeymoons in Bali. There is a bad storm and a dodgy expat ends up dead. When they return to England their lives change as they become embroiled in a tangled web of murder, mystery and deceit. Intriguing plot with several flawed and unreliable narrators. This book keeps you guessing and has plenty of twists, secrets, lies, revenge and extreme gaslighting. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK.

Two couples meet on the last day of their honeymoon. They decide to dine together that night. At the end of the evening there is an altercation with another man in the restaurant.and from there the plot builds. One couple could be responsible for a mans death but is there more to it? Both couples have their secrets.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book and the unfolding of the drama. There were twists that I didn't see coming and it was overall a very enjoyable read. It had me gripped right from the start.

A superb story full of an amazing number of twists. In some ways it felt slightly slower than I expected at the start but that could be because the rest of the book was so full on and basically unputdownable.
I loved it. This is the first book that I have read by this very talented author and I shall certainly look out for more now.

This was a very good read, it has plenty of twists and turns throughout.. with a brilliant unexpected ending. The characters were great, the story itself was a little slow to start off with, then as it picked up it was very enjoyable. The writing was perfect. This is the first book that I have read by this author, I’ll be keeping my eye out in the future for more. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading this genre.

This was a gripping thriller.

I enjoyed reading this thriller of a book and I liked that each chapter was a different POV.

There was lots of twists and turns trying to guess who the guilty party is was difficult as there was so many misleading trails to follow.

I did guess the main one through all of there gaslighting and devious doings, but then comes another twist that completely through me.

I look forward to reading this author again.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

This book follows the lives of two couples who meet on their honeymoon. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book, with a plot twist I never saw coming. There were times when I wondered how everything was going to fit together, but it all comes together in the end.

An enjoyable read and look forward to reading more books by this author

This book kept me guessing. It started quite tamely, then one action started a whole chain of events. At times I got confused over who was responsible for each thing, with twists being added to the mix, until things got clearer nearer the end. I was surprised by the ending

Wow, what an absolute roller coaster of a ride! The Honeymoon by Kate Gray has it all, twist after twist after twist.
I normally find it very easy to deduce "whodunit", but not this time, Kate kept me guessing right up to the end.
A gripping story that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Well written, with characters that emotionally hooked me, and had me wanting to believe in their innocence.
A gem of a book, highly recommended for anyone who considers themselves an amateur sleuth, or indeed just fancies a jolly good read.
