I read and loved the first book, so I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. The books are based around Emma, an undercover intelligence officer. It can be read as a standalone, but if you enjoy these kinds of books, then you're probably going to want to read the first book.

Wow! I could hardly breathe at times. This is the second in a series about spy Emma Makepeace. She's 28, ambitious and determined, but also regretful that her career makes it difficult to have a partner.

Emma is sent to gather intelligence on a Russian crime ring, suspected of selling chemical weapons. Following the mysterious death of a lowly MI6 agent, found in a suitcase, Emma must infiltrate a luxury yacht owned by a Russian billionaire. She is hired as a helper, with a fake ID. But her identity is always considered suspicious by the paranoid team around the Russian.

The tension skyrockets every time Emma manages to find a few minutes to search his office. I could hardly breathe as she tries to find somewhere to hide when his henchman turns up.

I admired Emma's determination to see the case through when she's sidelined, and her courage in taking on male adversaries with her only weapon being a hidden screwdriver or mini knife.

There's a lot of glamour too as she adopts the persona of daughter to a wealthy Russian. It would make an excellent TV drama or film. Five stars!

This is a the second book in this spy series, but is a standalone read. The body of an MI5 officer is found in a suitcase in his apartment, with the murder seeming to have been committed by the Russians. The trail leads to a Russian Oligarch who had been under investigation by MI5. A little know unit of MI6 is assigned to investigate, leading to an undercover operation on a super yacht.

This is an easy read, if a little predictable. There is a mole in the Security Services who is passing on information to the Russians and it wasn’t hard to work out who that person is. Emma is an interesting character, out for revenge for her father, a spy who had himself been betrayed. She is ex-Army, had been head hunted by Ripley, head of the unit, for her special skills, and her need for revenge for her fathers death. A comfortable summer read, if a bit cliched.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone, Ava Glass has out done it with her character Emma, definitely a book which gets you hooked as soon as you start and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After the discovery of a secret agent's body in a suitcase , another agent Emma gets a job on a Oligarch's yacht. Shortly after as she has been following the oligarch and crew members when they go ashore other crew members start to suspect Emma ,leading to a tense ending. Well written with many twists as the story unfolds.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I didn’t realise when I received the book that it was the second in a series, I prefer to read series in order, however, this book worked fine as a standalone.
Emma is a British spy working for MI6 and she’s tough and ambitious. When an MI6 agent is found dead in a suitcase after being removed from his mission, Emma is required to go undercover on a luxury yacht owned by a Russian Oligarch to find out what the dead agent had found out that got him killed. She poses as a steward on the yacht. It’s a dangerous place to be, on a Russian owned yacht in the middle of the Mediterranean and her mobile phone is taken from her on boarding by the immediately suspicious Oligarch. Then to make it even more dangerous it would appear there is a traitor within MI6.

The setting is perfect for a summer read. Emma is a likeable character, a bit Bond like in that she’s very good looking on the outside but very tough on the inside.

Did I guess who the traitor was? Yes, did that spoil it for me? No, not at all.

This book is a cross between a thriller and a chicklit summer read. It worked for me.
Thanks to the author, the publishers and Netgalley for an advanced reader copy of this book. However, the review and it’s content are 100% voluntary and my own genuine opinions.

This is the second in this series that o have read and enjoyed this one as much as the first. The main character is engaging and the stories bring an interesting angle to the genre - not least because there’s a female lead!

This is my second book of this series and I'm now a big fan of Emma. This thriller didn't disappoint, as espionage, danger and action build to an unexpected conclusion as the traitor is unmasked. Highly recommended!

Spies, baddies, super yachts and a traitor are not exactly new but found this book mixed the blend well and as a consequence was both readable and enjoyable. Would certainly pack the next one if I wanted to take myself “out of it”.

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone, Penguin for the Arc! Unfortunately, spy thrillers just aren't for me anymore. 2008 Sarah would have loved this, especially with a female lead! I had to DNF about 20% in. It just wasn't for me, but for those interested in spy thrillers, this might be up your alley.

Emma Makepeace works for an agency in MI6 that’s so secret that it doesn’t even appear on any Government list. This small unit is responsible for identifying and stopping Russian spies from working inside Britain.

An MI6 agent is found dead in his apartment in a suitcase. The agent, Stephen, worked as an analyst, and had discovered links between chemical weapons and certain Russian oligarchs thought to be making a fortune from the sale of these weapons to anti Western countries.
This results in Emma being sent undercover on a Russian oligarch’s super yacht, on the hunt for the chemical weapons, and it goes without saying, it’s a very dangerous place to be! That’s bad enough but there are growing suspicions that there may be a traitor within MI6 itself.

This was another gripping read from Ava Glass with an action packed storyline, a terrific protagonist in Emma, and a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere was created thanks to a yacht full of bad guys in the middle of the ocean - making Emma a captive audience! Recommended.

A single highly ambitious agent is given a dangerous mission linked to Russian spies , chemical warfare and a double agent within the ranks of British intelligence. The difference (should there be one) to most spy stories is that this agent is female. Therefore according to custom and practice this necessitates reference to designer clothes, an unprofessional relationship with a fellow agent and her occasional emotional and physical weaknesses. There is also reference to her emotional ties albeit for practical reasons with the regulation compulsory self seeking opportunists found on the arm of affluent Russian entrepreneurs in her efforts to engender female solidarity as a means of accessing information. The Russia infiltrators and henchmen are in the main ruthless killers, the British agents more gentile and focused on protecting their agent agains unnecessary risks and danger. The increasing risk in allowing her to follow the clues when her identity appears compromised endangering the enterprise seems to be generally accepted without undue questions which in itself suggest quite another game in play. A fast moving conclusion if perhaps not wholly surprising appeared to occur more by good luck than her role as a female James Bond. Many thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

Action packed, intelligent thriller. Less James Bond and more a thinking woman's spy!

When an MI6 agent is found dead in padlocked suitcase, dosed by a biochemical weapon, Emma Makepeace is once again thrown into the murky world of global politics and espionage.

She's now on the hunt for chemical weapons, duplicitous billionaires and she'll be hard pressed to rely on anyone!

Hunting for a mole just adds another layer of danger to the investigation into the chemical weapons. Emma's really on her own when she's put to work on an Oligarchs yacht. She gets some unexpected help along the way but she's also at the mercy of a team she may not be fully able to trust. She's even doubting her boss!

Emma is a great character. She may not be British by birth but she has her adopted country in her heart. She really was born to be a spy. She's also inventive, tenacious and determined to success. But she doesn't want to climb the greasy pole of politics. It's great to see a female who is most definitely the hero of her own story and not just the simpering sidekick or damsel in distress.

Plenty of tension, action and adventure. I was kept guessing who the mole was - I had a couple of folk in mind and I was right! Emma is a hero for the modern age, she has a heart and doesn't like to use those around her but sometimes the job needs her to leverage people. But she can still be sideswiped occasionally - she is not omniscient.

Perfectly formed thriller!

I didn’t realise this was a sequel but it works well as a stand-alone novel. There are no real surprises or plot twists that were not signalled way in advance. Even I guessed the who the traitor was as soon as they appeared (and I’m usually far too gullible to guess correctly).
This feels like it was describing a film as it unfolds rather than the twists and turns of a story to be read, as say a John Le Carre or Len Deighton.

Emma Makepeace has been assigned to investigate the death of an MI6 agent, found folded up in a suitcase. Cause of death, VX nerve agent. The dead guy, Stephen Garrick, was a “follow the money” agent, currently on leave after his last investigation had been shut down. Although motive isn’t clear, Ripley, the head of a small subsection of SIS, and Emma, one of his top operatives, suspect that he had continued the investigation and that he had been getting too close to the truth. The money trail Garrick was following suggests that two Russian oligarchs, Federev and Volkov, working for themselves not for Russia, are stock-piling and selling chemical weapons. To try and find evidence, Emma goes undercover as an emergency replacement for one of the stewards on Volkov’s yacht. Although Volkov and his bodyguard/enforcer Cal Grogan are suspicious, they need her post filled. Everything is going smoothly until her cover is blown, apparently by a traitor with inside information. Emma has to escape, find the evidence, and then find the traitor.
This is the second book in an intended series but works perfectly well as a standalone. Emma is a solid character, not particularly original but believable, but most of the others are a bit caricature. The story is well written and moves quickly along, but the plot is “painting by numbers” with nothing very original, no real twists and a predictable ending. I’ve just reread my review of the previous book and see that I said similar things about that. I gave that a 3 so I’ll do the same here.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

This is the second in the series featuring female spy Emma Makepeace and was an enjoyable read featuring Russian oligarch baddies and an espionage mission on a super yacht for Emma.
There is definitely a traitor in Emma’s department and when an intelligence officer is found dead after trying to investigate an oligarch whom it is suspected has been making lots of money through chemical weapons deals with rogue nations, Emma is tasked with working on his yacht to find out what is going on and get evidence of his guilt.
There is also the added problem that someone within the intelligence organisation is betraying their every move which makes Emma’s mission even more dangerous.
I really enjoyed this follow up novel which was every bit as exciting as the first book. The setting of the yacht and the Mediterranean helped to make this the perfect read for a Summer holiday on the beach. It is fast paced and easily held my attention from the very first page. I must admit that I did guess who the mole was but this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book.
I liked having a bold female lead character who had all the necessary skills to be a super spy! This would make a great film, particularly with the super yacht setting!
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for my advance copy.

I loved this book. I thought it was very cleverly written, especially the way it weaved the characters together and also how the plot developed throughout. The female characters in the novel are strong and that is refreshing. Emma Makepeace, the protagonist works for MI6.
Emma wants to find out who is the traitor in her organisation, after a suitcase is found with a body inside? This person was shadowing two Russian oligarchs. Even though Makepeace mostly sticks to regulations, she also has initiative. The book has a gripping pace from the start and I couldn't predict the ending. It was a thrilling read, I was hooked in. I am really going to enjoy more books by this author.

I did not realise when I started this book that it was second in a series but that did not stop the enjoyment of the book as the way it was written I did not feel I was missing too much from the first book although I will read it sometime. Emma works for a secret intelligence agency which is a very small section. The boss of the Agency is Charles Ripley and her boss who she gets on with really well and admires him and his character. An MI6 agent is found dead in his apartment in a suitcase which starts the ball rolling for Emma to come into her own. Stephen worked for MI6 as an analyst and he had come across some figures which do not make sense and he is trying to work out the discrepancies. They start to investigate and find that some Russians are dealing illegal weapons. As soon as they are nearer to the answer the Russians evade being caught and it leads the Agency to believe there is a traitor working within the Agency. One of the Russians they are trailing has a yacht and Emma becomes one of the staff to try and infiltrate the meetings as they happen. Things go from bad to worse on the yacht for Emma but she does eventually work out the traitor and the men responsible for the arms deals. I really liked this book and I loved the characters who were very different from one another and complimented each other at the same time. I would love to read more books with Emma Makepiece as the central character and will keep my eye out for more. A great book

Emma Makepeace, a MI6 spy, is deep in the middle of a case when she gets a call to drop it. A body has been found, padlocked in a suitcase. Emma is needed to investigate. The body is of a MI5 agent, and the agency needs to know why he was killed. She soon discovers that the dead agent had been investigating two oligarchs who are suspected of running weapons into the UK. Not only that, but it seems like they may have help from someone in the British government.

To find out who is supporting this weapons ring, and to take the traitor and the oligarchs all down, Emma goes undercover on a superyacht owned by one of the oligarchs. It is a risky move, as she has no backup, and the yacht owner and his security are extremely suspicious of her arrival. Soon Emma realises the traitor knows who she is, and what she is doing, and her life is in serious danger. She needs to solve the case quickly before she ends up dead. But who can she trust for help?

This is the second book in the Alias Emma series, and it was a fantastic follow-on. This book does read well as a stand-alone, but reading the first book gives you the backstory and character development which will help you understand Emma that bit better. I really enjoyed the setting of this one, it was something a bit different, and really put Emma out of her element, and out on her own. We don’t know who she can trust, and we begin to have suspicions, but there is always doubt at the back of your mind. A brilliant read, fast-paced, edge of your seat and action-packed!

*I received this book from NetGalley for review, but all opinions are my own.

A great story keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Some brilliant twists that I didn't see coming!
