I am a Lesley Pearse fan and this was another great, page-turning read.
The books deals with the sensitive subjects of domestic abuse and grooming so there were some distressing parts but they were handled well. The characters and plot were extremely well developed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for a free advance copy of Betrayal in exchange for an honest review.
Lesley has done it again! I have read all of her books and I have always loved the way she portrays strong women within her books. They often have to face difficult situations but they always come out fighting. Eve escapes her violent husband with her two children. They settle in Sidmouth Devon and start to live their lives free. I really enjoyed the story of Eve, her character is strong but sometimes too strong and she is encouraged to relax and give a little. This book covers domestic abuse and grooming but that isn't just what it's all about. There were parts of it that felt a little odd, such as Eve's secret and how it is dealt with when it comes out in the open. The children had great characters. All in all a great read.
another excellent Lesley Pearce Book which is as good as all her other books. This story keeps your interest and
you need to know what happens next.
The main character a meek woman who is abused by her husband and made to feel worthless, but her need to
get herself and her children to safety, shows how this lady changes from a mouse into a strong and organised business woman, something she has been told for so long is in incapable of being. Her life turns round, but there are other issues, can she sort them out.
Eve waits every night for her husband Don's key in the door wondering if tonight he will be drunk and angry. Eve knows if he is he will take his anger out on her and maybe her son if he tries to help her.
One morning after lying on a cold kitchen floor all night while battered and bleeding Eve knows it's time to leave. With no money, no other family and nowhere to go how is she going to escape with her son and daughter?
Once again a page turner by Lesley Pearse. I think I read this in one day.
I liked Eve as a character, she was determined to start her life again and had to accept that she needed help to do that. Many lovely people entered her life along with a few wrong ones. I thought her children
At 13 and 15 especially her son were exceptionally mature talkers for their age, they sounded much older. I really didn't see the "betrayal" coming. I always try and guess what will happen, but it shocked me when it did.
Good read.
I have read every single book published by Lesley Pearse, she’s an automatic read for me.
Be aware that this book covers some sensitive issues right from the get go. It is however a gripping and emotional read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this 5⭐️ read
I sat and read this book in two halves. I was hooked from the start Eves love for her children and family stands out but what she has to do to be free and happy is heartbreaking.
Lesley tackles domestic violence within this story and does it exceptionally well.
Although emotional and thought provoking I was gripped right to the end.
Was not sure about this one at all. Really struggled with it and what it was trying to achieve. May try again as I felt it didn’t really flow. Not an escapist summer read at all.
Thanks to Net Galley for granting this book. I love and have read every book by Lesley Pearse. This book is based on Eve and her life which was pretty haunting at times - an abusive husband, her time at a refuge and looking after her two children, her daughter then being groomed - there is plenty going on and it’s a fast moving storyline which portrays difficult issues but at the same time gives hope. Would recommend to others

It’s a very good book it tackles everything from domestic violence to grooming. When Eve married Don she thought everything was perfect until the first punch then eventually her being hospitalised, when he started on her son that was the last straw and made a run for it with her two children to Sidmouth where she went into a refuge she eventually goes back to her family home but Don makes her life hell.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
Really great read covered so many current issues for women I thought it was so sympathetically written. Great author great characters thanks
Eve should never have married Don, he was an abuser and a bully.
For the sake of her two teenage children she decides to escape to start a new life.
Very hard hitting and covered very emotive subjects such as martial abuse, grooming and suicide.
A well written, gripping novel with lots of unpredicted twists.
Would be perfect as a reading group choice as lots of discussion starters due to subjects covered.
Thanks @lesleypearse @penguinbooksuk & @netgalley for the eARC
**TRIGGER WARNING** Grooming. Domestic Abuse. Suicide.
Eve should never have married Don Hathaway. Yes, he gave her two beautiful children - Olly and Tabitha - but he's a bully. Worse than that, he hurts her. But after one drunken rage too many, she has the courage to leave him. Eve is warned that it is a difficult path, yet she needs to give her children hope for the future. Don, however, is bitter. And getting away entirely from him proves impossible. Until the day, Eve tries to teach him a lesson - and it goes horribly wrong.
I love a book by Lesley Pearse and this one did not disappoint. This story covers domestic abuse. It can be quite disturbing in parts. I was quickly pulled into the story and my heart went out to Eve for what all she had to suffer. The pace was perfectly set. The characters are well developed. There were a few gasp out loud moments for me. I love Lesley's writing style. this is an emotional roller coaster read that had me fully invested from the beginning through to the end.
I would like to thank #Netgalley #MichaelJoseph #PenguinRandomHouse and the author #LesleyPearse for my ARC of #Betrayal in exchange for an honest review.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
i am sure its going to be a very good book but it triggered to many memories for me to actually read it all the way through. if i had known it was about a battered wife i would have avoided it like the plague
sorry
I love the author’s writing and have read many of her books over the years.
I read this in a matter of hours, a book you instantly get into and can't put down.
While covering some very disturbing subjects, I'd highly recommend this book.
You'll find yourself constantly thinking “What would I do”?
Another great read from this master storyteller.
Lesley Pearse is back with a bang!
I flew through this book, it was such a gripping read. A difficult topic of domestic abuse, but I was hooked from start to finish.
Great, depth of characters and a plot that held your attention throughout. An emotional rollercoaster of a read that will keep you holding your breath for a happy ending!
I love Lesley Pearse as an author and had read all she has written. This is another good book from the author with an emotive storyline.. Eve's story pulls you in from the beginning and I found I needed to keep turning the pages to see where the story went, well written with a bit of a twist.
My thanks as always to Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for the early read.
this is very good.so enjoyed. Eve is married to Don. they have a son and daughter.to the outside world. they look the perfect couple. But Don is a bully and an abuser. After his last attack on Eve, she decides to leave him. And she and her children go to a women's refuge. She eventually gets divorced and gets the house back. But she still not safe from him won't say no more. But a very good read
A great read by Lesley. The characters are very good and you are soon drawn into their lives. Although some of the subjects written about are unpleasant it’s all done in a sympathetic way. I was hooked from the first page and really felt for the characters. It was good how you could see the way the situations affected the different characters in their own respective lives. A well deserved five star read.
Lesley Pearse certainly writes a cracking story. This book had me hooked from start to finish following Eve’s desperate journey through life and her longing to get away from Don her dreadful husband. Brilliant writing brings Eve’s story to life….a story you really don’t want to miss.
Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This was a sensational story. I was captivated from the beginning. Eve's story was compelling. Don was a dreadful man and the beatings he inflicted on Eve was heartbreaking and you just wished that she could escape and have a good life. It took a lot of courage for her to leave and fulfill her dreams which she did. Brilliant.
