I am a huge Lesley Pearse fan and have read all of her books, I was excited to be asked to read and review Betrayal. The first few pages are absolutely shocking, we know Pearse doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects and writes so well, I would expect nothing less however parts of the narrative just didn’t fit, at times Olly a 14 year old boy speaking as if he’s 30, some of the phrases just weren’t realistic.

I liked Eve at the beginning however as time went on she became very self centred, I’d lost any warmth towards her,

This book explores domestic abuse, grooming & suicide and handles such delicate subjects well.

Is it one of her best, no I don’t think so.. I personally prefer her older books than the last 3-4 she’s published however would I continue to purchase or read any future books, of course I would… it’s Lesley Pearse!

A strong 3.5 from me.

Another amazing book by Lesley Pearce, a masterpiece and one of her best yet, I’ve read every single book and I love them all but this is on another level, it’s brilliant from start to finish

A stunning unputdownable read! I have so much empathy for Eve, she has undergone so much trauma and come out the other side shining! Her family and friends are an assortment of characters who charm you and pull you into their world.
There are shocking moments, gasp out loud moments, and such sadness, so tastefully covered and beautifully written, as usual! Lesley Pearse does not disappoint!

A brilliant read. A real page Turner that I couldn't put down,Eve has been suffering abuse from her husband Don almost from the moment they first got married and finally after another hostage visit she snaps and decides to leave with her children Tabby and Ollie finding safety in a women's refuge..Finally finding herself strong enough to file for divorce things start to pick up for them and Don moves on she eventually moves back into the family home, but a terrible accident will change her life forever. It's a great story of friendships, relationships and eventually healing after many mistakes and some terrible tragedies along the way can Eve and her children finally find the happiness they deserve. Lesley Pearse at her best I really loved it

I have read quite a few of Lesley Pearse's books and generally find them very engaging. This was not so much the case with "Betrayal", and I'm not sure why. A number of topics are covered in the story, including abusive relationships and child grooming. Perhaps I didn't feel enough empathy with Eve, the mother in the novel.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

Where do I start?
Got to say I don’t think I am the target audience for this book, generally I read a lot of what is classed ‘women’s fiction’ and love it but this for me actually did feel it was correctly labelled, a bit Mills and Boon ish in large swathes of it
But then here’s the contrasting thing…the book highlighted some really difficult subjects including marital abuse, grooming and suicide, to name but a few, and didn’t shy away from them, in fact it is a brutal start to the book….which then made the other parts seem so contrasted
The main character, Eve, is well played and her teenage children are very involved in all that happens to her but then towards the end her daughter does something that for me was totally out of character and changed the whole direction of the book, I just couldn’t buy into her reaction and stance at all
Yet although it took me a few days ( that’s a lot for me ) I wanted to finish the book and see the final outcome
A very confusing book to review for me as it was like 2 books joined as one, no doubt well written but maybe not for my appreciation

6/10

Betrayal by Lesley Pearce

I very much enjoy read books by this author and this one is also an enjoyable read , but for me , not as good as her others. I won't explain why as it would give too many spoilers , but even though parts of the plot covered serious matters , I felt they were wrote about very jolly hollysticks , it will all be ok , let's not deal with it , sweep under the carpet type of attitude , and hard reality , life isn't like that .

Storytelling at its best from a great author who I have followed for years and read all her books and she never disappoints.

I loved reading about all the characters and the storyline was just brilliant I felt I knew them all by the ending and what a satisfactory ending it was.

Thank you to Netgalley and Michael Joseph (Penguin) for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Another great book from Lesley Pearce. Undoubtedly a great storyteller. One is instantly caught up in Eve's story of domestic abuse and her subsequent escape with her children into her new life despite its ups and downs. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give it a 5* recommendation.
Thanks to Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advance review copy of this latest book by Lesley Pearse. As expected from this author, this book is well written and easy to read, and deals with sensitive topics graphically but sensitively.

Not one of her best, started to lose interest half way through, got better towards the end. Dealt with the subject of domestic abuse well.

Eve married Don Hathaway despite some small reservations. These reservations come to fruition when Don starts to physically abuse her. It starts off with small but still inexcusable harm which soon escalates to Eve needing medical attention for broken bones and other injuries. After one punch too many, Eve plucks up the courage to leave Don, taking their two children with her. They arrive in the seaside town of Sidmouth with little money and scant possessions.

Don is angry at his family’s departure and this anger compounds when Eve and the children are granted access to the family home. Don starts to make Eve’s life a nightmare and refuses to let her go quietly, using intimidating behaviour to frighten her. Eve snaps and decides to take revenge on Don, endeavouring to teach him a lesson which doesn’t go to plan. Eve tries to pick up the pieces of the family’s life and move on, but the past is never far behind.

Yet again a brilliant book from one of my favourite authors who never fails to disappoint. Such engaging characters right from the start. A gripping story with lots of unforeseen twists. Kept me riveted to my seat. A very easy 5-star rating!
