Overall it is clearly well researched and written with very interesting content, well organised and useful to adults who don't have a strong scientific background or haven't done a wealth of research prior to reading this - for those of us who have done a lot of work on self-awareness and understanding our own limitations as ADHDers this may not be so useful. Also, some of the language used in this book is quite dismissive of neurodivergent individuals and this did not sit well with me.

A Comprehensive Guide to Mastering Adult ADHD by Vivian Abobo, PharmD.MBA, emerges as a beacon of clarity in the often murky waters of adult ADHD management. Published on January 1, 2023, this book is not just another addition to the self-help genre; it’s a meticulously researched, well-structured guide that speaks directly to adults grappling with ADHD.

Abobo’s expertise as a pharmacist and business professional shines through in her pragmatic approach to the subject. She doesn’t just rehash common knowledge; instead, she delves into the nuances of ADHD in adults, a demographic often overshadowed by the focus on childhood ADHD. The book’s strength lies in its comprehensive nature, addressing key questions and providing answers that are both understandable and actionable.

The guide is divided into sections that tackle various aspects of ADHD, from understanding the symptoms to navigating medication and non-medication-based treatments. What sets this book apart is its honest discussion about the effectiveness of these treatments, offering a balanced view that respects the reader’s intelligence and agency.

One of the most compelling features of Abobo’s work is her focus on the individuality of ADHD. She acknowledges that no two experiences are the same and offers a range of strategies to enhance focus, manage emotions, and break through the barriers that ADHD can create in one’s personal and professional life.

Readers have praised the book for its helpfulness and the way it addresses adult ADHD with the seriousness it deserves. It’s a guide that doesn’t just inform but also empowers, equipping readers with the knowledge to take control of their ADHD and not let it define them.

In conclusion, A Comprehensive Guide to Mastering Adult ADHD is a must-read for anyone looking to understand and manage ADHD beyond the stereotypes and stigma. Vivian Abobo’s book is a valuable resource that provides practical advice, grounded in research and empathy, making it a standout in its field.

I did not read A Comprehensive Guide to Mastering Adult ADHD by Dr. Vivian Adobo through an educator lens per se, but I work with teens on their executive functioning skills and ADHD every day and was hoping that I would find new information or strategies to share with them. However, I found this book to be repetitive to what is already out on the market for this topic.

Very interesting and had a lot of nice resources to better understand this topic. I always have been interested in ADHD, mostly because of my close friends and family members who work with people who have, or they temselves have, ADHD. This book offers great tools.

Good book for Adults with ADHD, it helps with a quick understanding of how to live with ADHD. It has short paragraph so an easy read for a mind that tends to wander off and wants to easily find what they are looking for.
It needs a bit of editing, and would benefit from a better design but I found useful bits myself in this book
I was diagnosed as a teen almost 18 years ago now before it was really known about.

As an ADHD psychotherapist that works primarily with adolescents with ADHD, I found value in this book. I would also recommend this book to people who may not be mental health professionals because it provides the information in an easily digestible format, with practical strategies, as opposed to just commiserating about the difficulties we have as adults who struggle with ADHD. I actually recommended this book to a couple of my adult patients, just a source to refer to as we discharge from therapy.

As a child, I had all the classic symptoms of ADHD. Unfortunately, in the early 90s in UK, not much was known. I was a problem child, always disruptive, couldn’t concentrate and was constantly in trouble. I ended up in alternative education. As an adult, I’ve suffered with anxiety and depression. No antidepressants or therapy has helped. When my own two children were diagnosed with ADHD. I decided to get myself assessed.

There’s lots of books covering children with ADHD so it was good to read a book aimed at adults. The sections of the book answered all of my questions and was very helpful for me. It shows you how the symptoms in adults can be different and mistreated as well as lots of helpful (and honest) information about medication and other treatments.

I would recommend this book to anyone suffering from ADHD or anyone that wants honest, unbiased information about adult ADHD.

I really needed this book in my life. It has given me hope that I can manage my ADHD. It helps me see that I am not a horrible individual, but that I can be a contributing member to society. The author made it simple to understand and provided guidelines on how to manage it.

Eh. Not great. There were so many awkward phrases and sentences that didn’t make sense. For example: counteract lack of motivation by manifesting motivation; contradictions about consuming caffeine but caffeine being a detriment. I’m glad it was an easy read to skim through.

As someone who received a late diagnosis of ADHD, I was eager to dive into this book and gain valuable insights into managing my condition. However, while the author's intentions seem genuine, I must admit I have some serious reservations about recommending it.

While it attempts to shed light on ADHD, there are several issues that hinder its effectiveness. The author's language and portrayal of ADHD lean toward the negative, failing to emphasize the strengths and potential of those with the disorder. The book's structure feels fragmented, resembling pamphlets rather than a cohesive guide, with limited personal anecdotes or expert perspectives. Additionally, the writing style lacks polish, featuring grammatical errors and a disconnected tone. Although there may be some useful tidbits, I recommend seeking more comprehensive and supportive resources to gain a deeper understanding of and effective strategies for managing adult ADHD.
