Everyone has been raving about this book and for good reason. It's the perfect mix of fantasy and romance. There's an enemies to lovers trope (always a favourite) and plenty of slow burn action.

I enjoyed the world building in this book, the characters are well written too. Loved the dragon aspect of it too.

The ending is criminal, that twist! I need to know what happens next now but I won't for a long time.

I was so excited to receive an ARC for this book as everyone has been talking about it!! ohhh this was SO good!!!! The hype is well deserved, it had me hooked from page 1, i just could not get enough. I never wanted it to end, i love everything about it.

As someone with a soft spot for dragons.. I was interested in this from the get go, then I started seeing all the hype and I know that can seem off-putting sometimes... so I decided just to dive in before it became too much and I am so glad I did

This book felt like the Hunger Games era for me, where there were those books, and Divergent, and Maze Runner and also Eragon... its all the tropey bits we know and love from the former books with the fantasy dragon riders of Eragon.

Now is it the more original of all the books ever, no, but could I put it down... also no. And my main thing I love in a book... it had me connected.... it made me feel the feels, gasp all the gasps!

Highly recommend this but would say for the most part it reads quite YA (not to be taken as a bad thing... I love YA) but it does have an adult romance (the characters are in their early 20s)

Oh also, something I've not seen much about for this book is the disability representation, which as someone with a hidden illness I completely appreciated how this was handled and addressed in the fantasy setting.

Cannot wait for the book 2 to see what happens next!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me a copy in exchange for a review.
As someone who gets second hand cringe and little sick in the mouth when sex is on the page, this was at times a little uncomfy for me, but for you thirsty people out there, you'll give this two big thumbs up. The flirting was very well done, and the will-they-won't-they was very good with both guys (Yes, there were two gentlemen up for the Love Interest spot).
Our main character was fun, with chronic pain, bad joints, and just genuinely fragile physically and this was a nice surprise to me as I have Fibromyalgia. And the fact that they didn't use magic to heal or 'fix' her, but kept reminding her and the readers that there was nothing to fix - she was fine as she was she just needed a little help now and then, which as a disabled person was nice to see.
The only thing I did not like was the overused trope of she's tiny, he's huge. You can be fragile and tall at the same time authors. Just FYI.
I've seen a lot of discussions on TikTok and instagram about how this book is boring, and bad so all I'll say is don't come to this book thinking it's literary gold. It's a fantasy romance. heavy on the romance and not so much on the plot but overall I thought it was a good time, and I'm looking forward to the sequel (which comes out on my birthday no less!).

Let me just start by saying I was not prepared for this book to affect me the way that it did. My first foray into this authors work— as a predominant reader of fantasy novels —did not disappoint. In fact it did the opposite, it absolutely blew me away!

This is a 5-star novel filled with magic, romance, intrigue, secrets, dragons, plot-twists, SPICE.

The PLOT ensnared me from page 1 until the very last sentence, and it still has not let go. It was addictive like the coffee I drink every morning, and not unlike the quickened heartbeat I get after I drink it, the PACE of this story is fast. Unputdownable.

The CHARACTERS felt fully fleshed out and real, with on-page chronic illness and disability rep which was amazing to see.

The WORLDBUILDING is done so fantastically that I never struggled to imagine exactly what was happening, be that with dragons or fight scenes or strolling the halls of the very large school.

TROPES include slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, spice at a level of 2.5/5, dragons, academia setting, disability rep, chronic illness rep

I devoured this entire book and recommend you do the same. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🐉FOURTH WING REVIEW🐉

Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an e-arc of Fourth Wing in exchange for an honest review.

THOUGHTS:

- I feel as though I have been waiting for years for the perfect book about dragon riders and magic to come into my life and become my new obsession, and to my delight, this book was just that! An academic setting, with high stakes, deadly trials, enemies-to-lovers, and lots of dragon lore; it was fast-paced, plot focussed without sacrificing character development, and had a loveable set of characters.
- The last 50 pages or so was outstanding, with incredible action scenes and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that has left me eagerly anticipating November so I can get my hands on the sequel!
- The tension between Violet and Xaden was so fun to read, and I loved the friendships and relationships Violet forms along the way.
- Whilst I loved the plot and characters enough to immediately give the book 5 stars (and I can definitely see myself going back to reread this), I did have one gripe I want to acknowledge:
- There were a few moments that made me cringe, which I won't go into further because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but during some heated scenes I had to try not to roll my eyes.
- Other than that, this book was pretty much everything I could have personally asked for in a fast-paced book about dragons. I can see why it might not live up to absolutely everyone's expectations, as the writing style is not particularly unique and is reminiscent of popular YA books such as The Hunger Games, Divergent etc. and there wasn't really any aspect of the writing style that stood out to me. However, this didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book and in a way actually made the story feel nostalgic to read.

This is an incredibly exciting and engaging story by Rebecca Yarros. Fans of Sarah J Maas will enjoy this story of Violet Sorrengail who is forced into becoming a dragon rider in the most dangerous training college of all, where to murder your fellow students is not a crime. Violet manages to find allies and courage in unexpected places, from old enemies and new and is the first to bond with not one but two extraordinary dragons who help her to uncover dangerous secrets and the unpalatable truth of the wars against her people. I loved every minute of this story and cannot wait for part 2, It was a real treat to read it!

WHATTTT!!!!!!

You can't leave it there?! Oh my gods, I need more already, what a fantastic book! I was hesitant at first to read this as it got so much hype on Instagram and I started worrying it wasn't for me but I am so glad I did read it!!! It was amazing!!! Violet and Xaden, New book boyfriend for sure. My new OTP.

The plot was fantastic, this is the perfect dragon book I think. I cannot get enough of it. I will be grabbing a physical copy and rereading at some point to annotate 😍

Every single fantasy fan, or anyone debating trying it out, here you are!
This book.
It is quite remarkable to see a fantasy book so popular amongst fantasy fans and fans like myself who are newer to the genre.
This is AMAZING.
The characters, the drama, the romance.
It shows exactly how incredible the fantasy genre is. The world building Yarros has created is something else. Genius. The quadrants, the training, the skills. So well crafted. There is so much scope for further books, and I, for one, I'm here for it.
One of my books of the year.

Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown Book Group for the ARC of this book for an honest review.

Fourth Wing follows Violet Sorrengail originally meant for the Scribe Quadrant and a quiet life among books. Until her mother the Commanding General forces her to joint the dragon rider candidates.

Only a few issues she is smaller than everyone else and her body is brittle and fragile. Dragons are known to take out the weak candidates and with fewer dragons than ever bonding most would kill for a spot. Alot would kill her just for being her mother's daughter one example being wing leader Xadan Riorson.

She going to have to use everything available to her too survive. It's either graduate or die.

Firstly the hype for this book was well deserved I loved this book it was very much a dystopian fantasy mix giving me vibes of Divergent and even Game of Thrones. However this is definitely an adult fantasy book.

Violet is a badass and a great example of a character written with inclusivity in mind.

Xadan is the enemies to lovers love interest who initially wants to kill Violet because her mother led to his father's death.

The world building is well done and easy to understand and very much had a more adult version of Divergent vibe which gave me such nostalgia.

The ending also left us with a massive cliffhanger ready for book 2.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and it fully deserves the hype it has been given well done to Rebecca Yarros.

I didn’t want this book to end at all, it was so absorbing and I felt in the centre of a whole new world that felt real.

In some ways the opening of this book reminds me of the Scholomance. Basgiath War College weeds out the weak from the strong by killing the weak. Once you enter there's no way out other than graduate or die. Twenty year old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to become a scribe, but the tough commanding general, Violet's mother, orders her to become a candidate in the elite Navarre dragon Riders. Violet knows it's a death sentence, her bones and muscles are weak. She's the sort of fragile human that dragons incinerate. The other cadets are as dangerous as the school's challenges, several want to kill her, just to get her out of the way. A few have personal grievances including Xaden Riorson,, 3rd year student and wing leader of the Fourth Wing. His father killed Vi's brother, her mother executed his father. But Riorson doesn't make any attempt on Violet's life, in fact he helps her to be a better candidate. There's sizzling sexual tension between them and a few steamy (explicit) scenes. This is the story of Violet's first year at the hill-or-be-killed college and there are surprises and plot twists that I don't want to spoil. All I will say is read it. Bing on the next one please. Highly recommended.

Headlines:
Shadows and light
Fated to hate
Hidden truths

Just a wow to all the goodness in these pages. It felt like there wasn't wasted word, page or conversation in this story, everything counted for something.

Fourth Wing excels on characterisation, starting with the MCs Violet and Xaden but the secondary characters are utterly fantastic, and at the front, for me sit Tairn, Andarna and Liam. The nasty characters were so well crafted too. It was a true enemies to lovers trope but so delicious in its execution.

The plot was full but it was easy to invest from the word go, with an action-packed start. There are so many great reveals and twist that just go the extra mile in terms of plot, taking your expectations and adding a few storeys of height to everything. There's some beautiful representation of disability, being other-abled and accomodations for that; honestly, that part was wonderful throughout.

There's a reason this book is something of a sensation, because it is sensational, full of depth, characters to love and cheer for and a bloomin' doozie of a cliff ending. Happy reading, friends!

Thank you to Little Brown for the early review copy.

This book had me in its grip, from the moment I started. Easily the best book of the year if not ever! It has dragons, enemies to lovers, chronic illness rep (which spoke to me personally!) Just chefs kiss!

ourth Wing's slow-burn enemies to lovers plot, combined with the most brilliantly crafted fantasy universe I've ever read, blew my mind. To be honest, I adored everything about this book.Violet Sorrengail has spent her entire life studying to be a scribe. Violet's life is jeopardised when her mother orders her to enter the rider sector. Because you either graduate and become a dragon rider or you perish at Basgiath War College. Violet's prospects of survival are bleak because she is chronically unwell and significantly weaker and smaller than the other students. With foes all around her, she must outwit everyone and fight for her life if she is to live long enough to claim a dragon.

Yah. I get the hype. It was well-written on the whole, engaging enough that I couldn’t put it down, and the plot kept me guessing the majority of the time. I really enjoyed the romance element (which is prominent) and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next! This is my first book by this author and I think I’ll be checking out their other stuff too.

I won't deny that I was quite entertained while reading this (hence the 3 stars) but it's also very tropey and the plot and especially the characters reminded me of quite a few popular fantasy romance books. Tropey isn't bad but the tropes definitely needs to be done in way that subverts expectations but this was nothing I haven't read before and therefore, came across as extremely predictable and unimaginative at times.

I can see why people would love this - it ticks all the boxes - underdog heroine who is also badass and sassy, hot and broody love interest, military college setup, secretly brewing revolution and of course dragons. But, there's also a lot left to be desired, namely the development of characters and the relationships between characters- both between the H & h and the group dynamic that the author was clearly trying to build but utterly failed because there's literally no uniformity to the group, except a few consistent characters, there were so many name drops that after a point I just stopped caring about who is who.

Personally for me, it was a good one time read and I am not really that invested to continue with the series.
