I read this book in 48 hours, I could not put it down! This was a great read, it had everything you want in a fantasy book, dragons, fighting, the underdog proving themselves, angst, lovers, friends and unseen enemies. I was invested from the first page to the last, I loved the ending and I loved the main character Violet, in fact I liked all the characters.

Sometimes a book catches you unawares and literally knocks you off your feet. This is that book.

When I saw this on NetGalley I wasn’t particularly in a fantasy phase and figured it might be one to pass on. But I read the blurb and was intrigued…honestly I’m so glad I put in that request! If you grew up reading Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Divergent… this is for you. If you enjoy authors like Leigh Bardugo and Sarah J Maas …this is for you. If you yearn for dark academia and epic fantasy… this is for you. Honestly if you just like books, this is for you. Just trust me on this one!

I don’t want to spoil it, you need to go in with no more than the blurb at your fingertips. But the world building, the romance, the characters… everything perfection. Thank you @rebeccayarros , you’ve given us something amazing and I cannot wait for book 2!

Thank you to @netgalley for the ARC copy of this… I will be purchasing many more copies!

If you've been anywhere on Bookstagram recently, you will have seen this book. I was lucky enough to receive an eARC, and wish I'd read it earlier than I did! I finished it in two nights.

Things I loved:

🖤Violet's wordplay between her and different characters, especially Xaden.
🖤The dragons - absolutely brilliant characters in themselves.
🖤How the FMC has physical medical issues to deal with.
🖤How the MMC has mental health issues to deal with.
🖤The 𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 between MCs.🔥
🖤Energetic battle scenes.

I actually loved so much more - it's quickly ranked as one of my favourite stories. I'm such a sucker for enemies to lovers, but this has added sassy dragons! I laughed, cried and got mad for all the right reasons. And my heart! 🖤

One word! IMMENSE!

And it has … DRAGONS!

Oh how I absolutely adored this book.

The slow burn romance, enemies to lovers. The storyline and writing style.
It was a book that I just didn’t want to end.

This gets a million stars!

I enjoyed this a lot, and it's a very good first book in a series, packed with action and a great slow burn romance. And Dragons!

I loved the first chapter, it set the scene for the entire book so well. Violet is an incredibly badass character, and I was a big fan of how her chronic illness was portrayed - that it didn't stop her at all, but also that physical strength is not everything that counts.

The educational parts of the story were also wonderful. Seeing as this is set at a college, it didn't feel too academic, but it did feel just a little too YA for me.

Now onto Xaden... Xaden, Xaden, Xaden... What a man 🔥 That is all I have to say about him.

The enemies to lovers romance was such a delicious slow burn, which eventually turned explosive, and the book finally started to feel like an adult story. The smut was intense, just how I like it.

The general flow was the biggest issue I had with this book. It felt like some chapters were missing important information at vital points, with a questionable amount of time passing between chapters, and plots being randomly abandoned, only to be vaguely mentioned in passing further on. It could have done with a little more polishing.

But the ending was fantastic! I did not see that coming at all, the set up was incredible and the cliffhanger so clever.

I don't know how to put into words the effect that this book has had on me.

This book has absolutely stolen my heart, it was honestly STUNNING 🤌🏻🤌🏻

The characters were loveable, believable and relatable and our FMC Violet is the baddest bitch there is and I absolutely adore her💖the slow burn romance? YAAAAAS!! And that twist at the end? Rebecca how could you??!!!

I don't know how I'm going to survive until November for book 2!! This is genuinely my favourite book of the year so far and if you have it on your tbr read it immediately!!

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarrow is a roaringly fun romp of a romance fantasy story - full of tropes and endless tension in the very best way.

I knew the second I saw the summary that this was a book for me - a military academy with dragons?
A young woman who has trained to be a scribe all her life now being forced into dragon rider training? Possible rival to lovers vibes?
I am here for it all.

I loved the fast pace and the humour of this story and Violet is no damsel in distress. And even though the story was occasionally predictable and some modern frames snuck into a fantasy world where it may not exist I couldn't help being glued to the page and generally just had a great time reading.

The banter alone could have carried this book but Yarros's action packed plot brought this into a well deserved four stars for me.

Undoubtedly one of the BEST books i have ever read!!

With exhilarating highs, and heartbreaking lows Rebecca Yarros has produced something incredibly amazing and completely unputdownable....

"I am the sky and the power of every storm that has ever been. I am infinite."

From the second I started to read Fourth Wing I was swept away in the story, by the second chapter the excitement of what I was reading took hold and never left, you are transported straight into a storyline that didn't need endless pages of story building ,oh no, this story speaks for itself.

A multi layered fantasy world were you fight for what you want or die trying and let me tell you now Violet is one badass female who refuses to let her disability define who she is, her character development throughout the book was amazing!!

If you are looking for a story that will keep you balanced on the edge of your seat, give you a slow burn romance and I mean all the angsty slow burn goodness ,with dragons that have all the banter and fierceness in spades, a book that will make you laugh, make you cry (I sobbed like a baby) and make you angry, then look no further, Fourth Wing is your next obsession!!

I can honestly say I haven't been this excited about a book since a certain High Lord came into my life haha, this book is just phenomenal and everyone needs these characters in their lives!!!

But......Yarros.....that ENDING 😱!!!!!

This is a new favourite, Rebecca Yarros brought me back to the hunger games but with dragons nostalgia and I couldn't put it down. I'll be buying the physical copy as soon as I can get into town at the weekend. All the reviews I've seen have been positive and so they should be, this was epic, exciting and addictive and I can't wait for book 2!

ARC REVIEW
WOW. I freakin loved this! The tension and banter had me squealing! The way the worldbuilding is done through the mc reciting facts to calm herself down is incredibly unique. I already just have to read the second one! Xaden is just 😍. And the whole book was just amazing!

All the stars are awarded to this brand-new favourite. ALL THE FREAKING STARS. Not to freak out or anything, okay no, start freaking out and get your hands on Fourth Wing 🙌

My favourite book as a kid was The Dragon Whisperer, and this is the grown-up, spicy, death-filled adult version for sure. Violet (or nicknamed Violence to a certain enemy that you immediately swoon for) planned for a life as a scribe but due to her mother's wishes (sorry shall we say orders on pain of death?) Violet is forced to continue the long family line of dragon riders. Unfortunately, most don’t survive the first day let alone the chance to bond with a dragon (if it doesn’t roast you first) and of course there is actually being a rider and fighting on the front lines of a bloody war. Oh, and as the daughter of a commanding general, there is more than one student out to break her in revenge.

Despite being over 500 pages, I was constantly at the edge of my seat and read the first half for three hours straight without noticing the time passing. There was constant action, developments, and twists. Every time I thought I saw where it was going, there was another layer to peel back. Additionally, each chapter begins with an excerpt from either the law, letters, personal notes or similar; it meant I felt completely grounded in the world being built.

Violet also has, I think, (in today's terms) joint hypermobility syndrome. I can’t speak for the actual disability, but I really enjoyed the chronic illness representation. Violet has the most amazing character arc, and I was worried at some point that her growth might see her disability ‘fixed’ in some way, and to my relief, it wasn’t. She kicks ass. I also loved how it dissected the complicated layers of how people, including friends and loved ones, viewed Violet because of her disability. Taking a further step back, Yarros, in general, brilliantly explores friendship, family, and romance. I was moved to tears at one point and actually found myself screaming out loud at another.

I hope this might convince you to run and pick up Fourth Wing right now 😅

I’m not sure I’m going to be able to successfully put my thoughts about this book into words but I’m going to try. I have 569 hightligths from reading this book so I have A LOT of thoughts about it. Absolutely all of the stars in the world for this one!

I did not have falling in love with dragons on my 2023 bingo card but here we are. This world is phenomenal and so beautifully created and I’m obsessed with everything about it. The concept. The setting. The characters. Just, yes to everything. This book had me giggling and kicking my feet, swooning so hard I had to put my kindle down, sitting on the edge of my seat, turning my nose up in disgust and praying for the downfall of certain characters, sobbing so hard as my heart broke, gasping as the plot twisted. It was really just phenomenal.

I wouldn’t call myself a big fantasy girlie because my brain sometimes struggles with all the world building and the new information but this book makes it so incredibly easy, it almost felt like all these things and places and people and creatures I was learning about were already embedded in my brain. The way Rebecca intertwines the world building into dialogue and conversations overtime so we can learn alongside other characters is brilliant and works so much better than having a load of information dumped on you.

There are so many instances in this book where the clues are right in front of your face but it’s so cleverly written that you don’t see them until the precise moment Rebecca wants you to. Idk if this is just because I’m a naive reader but every time a truth bomb was about to drop, my brain caught up on the little clues that had been dropped before hand and it was so damn good.

The characters in this book have fully stolen my heart (with the exception of some I’d like to put in the bin forever 💀). Violet is incredible. She’s small and fragile and suffers with chronic pain and weak bones and everyone underestimates her but she doesn’t let that stop her. She’s smart, compassionate, caring and she has easily made the list of my favourite FMCs ever.

The “I hate you” to “you are astonishing” pipeline between Xaden and Violet is phenomenal. Naturally, she’s the daughter of the general who was responsible for the death of Xaden’s family so of course they are sworn enemies who hate each other so much and absolutely do not want to be more than friends. The development of their relationship was so natural. The tension between them is palpable and it’s just as good when they hated each other as it is when they started falling for each other. Their fight scenes had me by the throat and I will be thinking about them forever. Also, the mind talking? So Feysand coded and I am HERE FOR IT. GOD, VIOLET AND XADEN ARE SO HOT.

Xaden. Xaden. Xaden. My god, how I love ONE man. The way he believes in violet and teaches her instead of tearing her down? This man that hates her is out here giving her lessons to become a better rider? Lives were CHANGED. I absolutely loved learning more about him and peeling back to shadows (quite literally) to see he was so much more than this big, scary, dark guy. He has a heart of gold and the way he cares for his people is incredible. The way he works to build them up to try and give them the best chance at survival. How he knows when to be soft and when to be hard.

The last hour and a half of this book had me experiencing every single emotion possible. I gasped, I got angry, I sobbed (never getting over that moment 😭), and the ending? THAT ENDING!?!? I’m supposed to just move on with my life after that ending? I need book two like yesterday!!! I cannot WAIT to get back to this universe.

I’ve already started my audiobook reread and I am living for the way I’m picking up on different things with the hindsight of what happens. This is a book that knocks you off your feet the first time you read it and gets even better the more you reread it.

I absolutely loved this book - My favourite read of the year so far!

Summary
"Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros is an epic adventure that will take your breath away. From the very first page, you'll be transported into the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College, where Violet Sorrengail, is thrust into the cutthroat world of dragon rider training which will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Chronic Illness Rep
I felt a real connection to "Fourth Wing" because I have a chronic illness like Violet. It was so inspiring to see her badass character push through the tough training of the dragon riders while dealing with the challenges of her illness. The way she never gave up and used her strength of mind to overcome her physical limitations was really empowering. Overall I really liked the representation in this book.

Romance
Another benefit of this book is the truly long winded romance. <spoiler>Violet and Xaden's love story rivals my favourite book couples. It's intense, risky and filled with spice. Despite their early hatred towards each other, Xaden's tough love approach towards Violet ultimately helps her become a better fighter and dragon rider. While he may claim to hate her, it's clear to see that Xaden is secretly smitten with Violet.</spoiler>

Side Characters
But it's not just the main characters that make this book a must-read. The side characters are just as captivating, with their unique personalities and individual quirks. They add so much depth to the story, with their love, humour, jealousy, and hatred. Their interactions and relationships with each other really drive the plot forward and make the world feel even more real.

Dragons
The dragons in this book are a huge highlight. They're not just powerful, but they also have unique personalities and add a lot of sass to the story. They're fiercely protective of their riders and form strong bonds with them, which is especially true for Violet. The dragons are a crucial part of Violet's growth as a dragon rider, as they provide the nurturing she needs to become a skilled fighter. It's amazing to see how the dragons' personalities complement those of their riders and contribute to the story overall.

Can't wait to read the next in the series!!!!

“I will not die today.”
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has gained a lot of interest in the book world and I can understand why because it is a stunning read. This is a romantic, adventure fantasy about Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson. A slow burn, enemies to lovers, which is action packed, full of intrigue, magic powers and dragons. This is epic story which you won’t want to put down.
It is all set in the imaginary kingdom of Navarre, where there are four Quadrants made up of Riders, Scribes, Healers and Infantry. Violet wanted to be a Scribe like her father but her mother commands she enter Basgiath War College to be a Rider, like her and her sister.
Xaden is the intense and scary wingleader for fourth wing. He holds a grudge against Violet and
is after vengeance for the death of his father. He becomes obsessed with Violet and struggles between wanting her and wanting to kill her.
Violet is courageous for her size and fast but fragile so she has to prove herself as a candidate. She also has to face the fact that there is no guarantee that a dragon will bond with her if she even gets that far. She will have to fight to survive as it is a case of graduate or die.
Turns out there is a war outside for them to battle as well as the one inside between the candidates and all the other dragon riders. There is lots of tension between Violet and Xaden as
they navigate their sizzling chemistry. I liked the friendships Violet make against her sister’s advice, especially Rhiannon. I absolutely loved the dragons even though they were terrifying and brutal at times. They were great characters in their own right and have a hierarchy just like the humans they bond with.
There is a shocking cliffhanger ending you won’t see coming and will have you desperate for book two. It is an outstanding story that totally captivated me and drew me into this fascinating and incredible world Rebecca has created. I am not usually a fantasy fan but I can’t recommend this book enough, absolutely loved it.

Okay, so how to describe Fourth Wing...

It's a mix for me: part Hunger Games, part Divergent and part Ali Hazelwood (?) I know it seems like I'm stretching a bit on the last one but you'll soon understand why.

When I first saw the genres this book covered: Romance and Sci Fi & Fantasy, I thought brilliant! I'm a big fan of both. Until I realised it was also about time travel - specifically to 2008. It gave YA, which it may very well have been... I am reading an ARC of this and so have no idea how it has been promoted recently (upon checking Goodreads it does say YA/NA), That being said I had flashbacks to Shatter Me, to Twilight to the type of writing that 8 to 10 year old me would have lapped up. But 23 year old me is confused - very confused. The protagonist is supposed to be 20 and yet says stuff like "gets-you-into-trouble-and-you-like-it level hot" last time I saw this many hyphens I was 12. Either she's 20 or 16 being the speech was not giving what I expected from a 20 year old.

The YA 2008 Era references also littered the page, the first chapter itself was full of them, so I thought I'd provide a short summary:
- The Scale Pin? = Mockingjay Pin.
- The Riders Quadrant fight it out thing = The Reaping
- also, "Volun-told?" You mean she didn't volunteer as tribute?
- The sister = Primrose
- Xaden: 'if he finds out who you are maybe he might k-word you' = Divergent
- The Quadrant = Factions
Basically, you have to win the hunger games to get a chance to be picked by a dragon and if the dragon don't pick you, you die. But also there's a shortage of riders? and they still have to go through the hunger games? I don't know if I'm missing something here guys.

It was okay, is what I'm trying to say the comparisons are rife throughout the book. If you're like me and you were around at the beginning of the YA kick-off? The beginning of Shatter Me etc. this will feel familiar. However, I will be reading it for the romance, the enemies to lovers situation has me hooked, which means I will be purchasing a copy, and that is probably the biggest compliment I can give after reading an ARC.

Thank you to Little, Brown Book Group UK, Piatkus for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Forth Wing is my new favourite fantasy book!

Having read a few of Rebecca Yarros' contemporary romances, I already knew that her writing style and storytelling were superb but she really knocked it out of the park with her debut fantasy novel.

Violet was everything I was looking for in a strong female character. She's a complete badass and I loved every minute of her journey. The romance was swoon worthy and incredibly entertaining.

Obviously, my favourite part of Forth Wing was the DRAGONS. If you love dragons then you are going to want to pick up this book immediately!

Needless to say, I am very excited for the sequel to come out because Rebecca Yarros was born to write fantasy!

OMG THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING 4.5

Everyone and their mum. Fantasy lover or not you gotta read this book.

The book is about our main character Violet who is forced to join the riders quadrant which is much more dangerous than the Scribe one she thought she was going to. It follows her journey there meeting new people, falling in love and becoming the badass woman she is even with her Chronic pain and assholes doubting her. It’s also so much more and I hope everyone reads it.

It has great storytelling for the fantasy aspect. I understood everything. And I loved everything. The fantasy lowkey reminded me of like divergent and that. Like the quadrants reminded of the factions.

I loved the dragons. I was a bit uncertain if I’d like that but I LOVED IT. Fell in love with the dragons too. Their characters where amazing. The magical aspect. All of. Chefs kiss. Tairn, Sgaeyl, Andarna 🫶🏽

The main character where amazing. I loved Violet and Xaden and Rhiannon and Liam all of them where amazing. Heart hurt so bad for some of them. I hope they get their justice in the next book.

AND THE ROMANCE. I went in not even knowing if there was romance but there was and it was sweet and cute. And daggers to the throat. I LOVE LOVE THEM.

The plot twist at the end. Ngl I did kinda predict some of it but not all. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens next. I already know I’m in love with the person that’s in the next book!!!

I CRIED MY EYES OUT PEOPLE. I mean what did I expect from this author. The last letter killed me obvs there would be tears from this book too.

Shall I tell you what I didn’t like. DAIN AETOS that man enraged me. Like who do you think you are. I’d like to do us all a favour and push that man in the way of a dragons fire. Scorch the man.

I felt like I was in a movie it was amazing. (I fell asleep after I read it and had a dream it became a movie and I was invited to the premier lolll)

Dragons, Dragon Riders and probably the best fantasy world I’ve ever read and I cant believe I’ve found another favourite book of all time. (Release day: 2nd of May 2023)

Thank you so much to the publisher, ‘Little, brown book group’ / Piatkus and NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of Fourth Wing in exchange for an honest review.

I am in absolute awe of this book. I was enthralled from page one and I just knew in my bones that it was about to be one of my top books of this year, and maybe even all time.

I loved following the MC through the tests and trials of becoming something that isn’t second nature to her, reading the discomfort, the strain and the hope of Violet felt like I was there within the pages of the book. I haven’t read a book that felt like a real world and not like a book in a while, and this one practically vacuumed me into its orbit. The way Rebecca Yarros wrote this is so incredible, the tension, the chemistry and the story itself are all written perfectly, there is not a single thing I would change.

There’s romance, action, dragons, magic and some of the most badass characters I’ve ever read in this book and some of the most heart wrenching scenes that had me bawling into my pillow at 3am. I adore this book entirely. If there’s one book you pick up because of a review I’ve written, please make it this one. If you’re a fantasy veteran, you’ll love this and if you’ve never read a fantasy book before, I can promise you, this is THE one you should start with.

This fantasy enemies-to-lovers romance is absolutely fascinating; the story being so fast-paced and action packed, that it captivated me from start to finish - I lost sleep because I couldn't put it down! All of the characters are relatable and lovable, including the dragons, who have individual personalities and Violet's intelligence and dry sense of humour is particularly endearing. The story has similar characteristics to Sarah J Mass books, without the slow boring bits, so I can see SJM fans loving this. This does end on a tolerable cliffhanger, with a whole bucket load of intrigue, which I can’t wait to see explored in the sequel - I need the second book right now, and this one isn’t even published yet!

This is my first Rebecca Yarros book (thank to NetGallery and Little, Brown Book Group UK for allowing me to get a copy), but I'm already looking to see what else she has for my next read....

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a captivating fantasy novel with an intriguing plot and a cast of memorable characters.

The story follows Violet Sorrengail, the daughter of the commanding general, who wants nothing more than to pursue her passion for books in the Scribe Quadrant. However, her mother forbids her from leaving the Riders Quadrant, where she is expected to become an elite dragon rider.

Violet is determined to survive the ruthless competition among the cadets, but with fewer dragons willing to bond with riders, the danger is real. The book boasts some amazing world-building, particularly in the Rider Quadrant, where the dragons are the superior beings and their bond with their riders is well-crafted.

The enemies-to-lovers romance between Violet and Xaden Riorson, a powerful wingleader and Violet's nemesis, is a highlight of the novel. Despite their mutual dislike, their chemistry is palpable, and their relationship adds a layer of tension and intrigue to the story. The author also handles chronic illness representation with sensitivity, making Violet's character more relatable and endearing.

This is a well-written and engaging book. I didn’t expect less from a favourite author to be honest, her books are always captivating and full of feelings and reliable characters.

Overall, Fourth Wing is a fantastic start to a new series, and I can’t wait for the sequel.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
