(NOTES TO PUBLISHER/AUTHOR ONLY ARE AT BOTTOM):

This is a very satisfying romance by a recommended author. Maisey is a newly divorced Mom who had starred on her ex-husband’s home renovation show. Maisey is determined to be a better Mom for her teenage daughter, beginning with a move from their old life in Cedar Rapid to the rundown Wyoming ranch that Maisey inherited from her uncle. The ranch even comes with a bear! Maisey is hoping for a fresh start for herself and her daughter at the ranch and in the tiny town of Hell’s Bells. Flint had been befriended by Maisey’s Uncle and rents the ranch’s gate house. He’s a teacher who coaches the small town’s high school soccer team. Maisey and Flint have negative preconceptions about each other and are surprised when they quickly feel a strong sexual attraction. However, both of them believe a relationship between them is off-limits. All of the characters in this book are engaging, including Maisey’s daughter Juniper’s teenage drama. This book has dual points of view, many laugh-out-loud moments, some adult heat, some little plot twists, and a very, very romantic connection. By the time I got to their HEA, I wanted to re-read the entire book from the beginning again. Loved this story and highly recommend this book. I received an advance copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

To Publisher/author only:
1. In the Epilogue, in the sentence “That’s not a very conspicuous start” --should the word “conspicuous” be “auspicious?”
2. It was mentioned several times that Maisey was getting alimony support, which was allowing her to pay for her improvements to the ranch among other things. (Her Uncle was said to have left his money to charities.) Alimony typically stops when a spouse remarries. I wondered how a teacher and a handywoman were going to be able to pay the ranch’s expenses WITHOUT Maisey's alimony if/when they get married. Instead of alimony, a possible solution would be to say that she had received financial settlements from the show and her ex which she carefully invested with a savvy financial manager before traveling to Wyoming, and that had secured her a healthy income.

A really good book!

Maisey is rebuilding her life. She was part of a renovation show with her ex who wasn't a great husband or father. And her mom... Well lets just say Maisey has left town with some notoriety. Her Uncle Tony left her his place. Far away. On a ranch.

Flint has been living on Uncle Tony's land. They were good friends and he didn't like what he knew about Maisey.

I enjoyed this story, and the side characters. I love how Maisey admitted how she was wrong in the past and how she was trying to change her future. I enjoyed her relationship with her daughter Junie. Honestly, to me the relationship with Flint came second.

I enjoyed this book because it seemed like Maisey was always getting into something that she needed to be rescued from. Junior was your typical grumpy teen who was mad at the world but especially her mom. The author did a wonderful job of showing how moms get the blame for everything.

I enjoyed the connection between Flint and Maisey and think that Maisey’s husband made her out as an imbecile of their tv show. Julie showed a lot of great qualities towards the end of the book as she made a place for herself on the soccer team.

Moving to the ranch in Wyoming, getting away from the scandal of her soon to be husband, Maisey is awoken to her daughter screaming, as there is a bear on their porch eating a cow. When they are rescued by handsome Flint, her tenant and her daughter's math teacher, sparks fly and also clash. Fun read, and fast paced makes for an easy summer read. Highly recommend.

Not My Kind of Hero by Pippa Grant is a delightful romantic comedy about a single mother, Maisey Spencer, who moves to Hell’s Bells, Wyoming to start anew with her daughter June on a hobby ranch she inherited. Along the way, Maisey meets her new tenant, Flint Jackson, a grumpy math teacher with a passion for helping kids. Although Flint can be surly, Maisey slowly realizes that he is a fixer-upper just like her, and their chemistry is off the charts. As they navigate their differences, they find common ground and fall in love. The small town of Hell's Bells is filled with colorful characters, and the banter between Maisey and Flint is hilarious. Maisey is a relatable character, and readers will appreciate her strength and love for her daughter. Overall, Not My Kind of Hero is a charming read that delivers lots of laughs, entertaining wildlife, heat, and an HEA.

This is a five-star read that starts with a bang, a bear and a cow. It sounds like some crazy joke, but it’s simply magic, I really enjoyed 97% of this story, the end felt a little rushed, I would have loved a little more, but that’s me, I am a sucker for an extra-long epilogue where we get a real glimpse into what comes next and I would have loved to see what did happen next, or maybe we will get to hear from someone else in Wyoming. There are so many great characters in this story even the one who isn’t here anymore, as Uncle Tony just sounds like a really fun character, Earl was another one who made me smile, as I am convinced, he can understand human speak, those runts aren’t always the weakest of the family. Honestly this was a fun read, and I am so excited to hear more from this author.

I couldn't put my finger on what wasn't working for me until I realized it was the author's humor. It took me out of the story and came off very cringy. Since this is my first time reading this author, I'm going to assume that this is her writing style and unfortunately, it didn't work for me.

An emotional, hilarious swoonfest of all the things

I loved Maisey and Flint’s enemies to lovers, single mom, fish out of water, anti-relationship with a side of boat loads of baggage romance. They are both such wounded souls that need healing but in order to start the healing, Maisey and Flint must deal with their pasts because their baggage continues to a huge impact on their lives. The beautifully hilarious and heartwarming story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional relatable and lovable characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Maisey is a recently divorced single mom who moves to the ranch she inherited from her uncle in small town Hell’s Bells, Wyoming. It’s an escape from her disaster of her old life and an attempt to fix her relationship with her teenage daughter. Flint was a friend of her late uncle and is a renter on the ranch. There is instant chemistry and attraction but Flint’s baggage has long kept him from relationship commitment and Maisey is determined to avoid men until she is finished working on herself. Despite neither one of them being interested in a relationship, each interaction nudges them closer and closer toward their HEA and toward healing. On their way, they have to both learn to let down their walls - to let go of their pasts and who they thought they are supposed to be in order to embrace a life neither one thought was possible. The story will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering through so many sweet moments, steamy scenes, hilarity, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, healing, and all the heart squeezing love.

I am a fan of Pippa Grant, and have read most of her books. When I saw Not My Kind of Hero on NetGalley, I snapped it up, and boy am I glad I did. This is now one of my favorite books of hers.

While the humor and comical situations permeate the book, the underlying story is about a woman trying to move beyond a marriage in which she subsumed herself and also trying to salvage her relationship with her teenage daughter. The breaking of that relationship was part of the fallout of her marriage. Maisey’s quest to build her life and her relationship with the people of Hell’s Bell was very affecting.

Flint Jackson is Maisey’s tenant on the ranch she inherited from her deceased uncle, and was probably her uncle’s best friend. Flint is in need of healing himself, from an awful childhood and a disastrous relationship that ended up costing him his previous job and propelled him to move to Hell’s Bell. Flint and Maisey go back and forth with each other as to if they can get involved, and once they do, if they can stay involved. In other stories, this back and forth would have started to annoy me, but it makes sense in this book with these people.

With some hot physical encounters, interesting and fun secondary characters including a cantankerous bear, funny dialogue and situations, and a huge amount of heart, I recommend Not My Kind of Hero wholeheartedly.

Thank you to Pippa Grant, Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are solely my own.

If you have never read a Pippa Grant book, read this book! If you love Pippa Grant's books, read this book! My Kind of Hero is my kind of book. It's full of unique characters, (some human, and some animal), wonderful storylines, and so many feelings! So many feelings. These people got into my heart from the very first page and still haven't let go.

This is not your typical Pippa Grant book.
When Evie arrives to Hell's Bend, with her daughter in tow, it to lick her wounds, from her failed marriage, as well as to try to relive those wonderful days of her childhood. Instead she finds a run down ranch, that needs a lot of work, a bear eating a dead cow and Flint.
Flint looks at Evie as the niece, who never visited her late uncle, a hopeless helpless ditz and someone he most likely will have to bail out this coming winter. Heck she didn't even know that Earl, the bear, is more a pest then something truly harmful.
Evie is not the woman she portrayed on TV. She's extremely competent, is a real mama bear about her daughter( she's trying to make up for lost time), and the townsfolk seem to like her a lot.
This is a slow burn story with a lot of wrenches thrown it to make it a one step forward and two steps back.. Evie and Flint have more in common than they realize.
It's a deeper complicated story, than what the author usually puts out, with a touch of whimsy .
Thank you to Net Galley for the advanced copy.

Not My Kind of Hero was an entertaining romance that had me smiling the entire time I read it. I can always count on Pippa Grant to bring the humor along with the swoon. This book was more of a slow burn than some of her others, but that didn't make it any less fun.

What did I love about it? It's a small-town romance set on the Wits End ranch in Wyoming. Maisey and her teenage daughter June have just moved there after inheriting the farm, all the updating it needs, and a tenant on the property. Flint is said tenant and he is not a fan of Maisey's from the get-go. Once Maisey finds out that Flint stands in the way of June playing school soccer, he isn't a fan of his either. This leads to a lot of tension helping ignite the spark of chemistry between them.

Maisey was a great character. I loved how she was trying to put her daughter first after semi-fame and a dumb ex-husband had kept her from doing that for years. Sometimes she overdid it, but her heart was in the best places. Flint was a great match for Maisey. He had some past trauma that turned him into a man who wasn't looking for love. Instead, he was focused on his community, his students and athletes, and trying to be there for all of them in all the ways. I loved how this helped Flint connect with both Maisey and June. It took a while for them to get together, but I loved the buildup between them that made it explosive when they finally did.

June was a special piece to this puzzle. I don't know that I've read a ton of romances with single parents of teens. Usually, the kids are younger. That made this book stand out. I loved her relationship with her mom and then seeing how things went with her dad. And I can't leave out her relationship with Flint as a teacher, coach, and eventually her mom's partner.

Last, but not least, this review wouldn't be complete without mention of Earl the bear, Gingersnap the horse, and all of the fun townspeople. They brought so many laughs and also some great advice to our MCs.

The only thing I would have liked more in this book was time with Maisey and Flint as a couple. It was all packed in at the end. I loved the journey to get there but would have loved some more moments of them figuring out their stuff and becoming a couple. Overall, this was a great read and what I have come to expect from Grant.

Loved this book! Devoured in one sitting. Loved the dynamic and the flow of the story. Thanks for the ARC!

Maisey may be my new favorite romcom lead - she's got spirit and shows it. Even though she comes into the start of the book saying she lacked confidence, all of her actions show just how much moxie she has. She doesn't gain it from the male character - it's her - the whole time. I'd read so many more from Ms. Grant if it means female leads with gumption that is all their own.

Loved reading the captivating and engaging romance story. When Maisy is struggling with her mom in prison, a divorce, her mom's depression, and wanting to put her daughter, Junie, first. Maisy's uncle passes away and leaves his place to her, but there's a handsome man, Flint, living on her property. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting love story.

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Not My Kind Of Hero is a small-town, single parent romance. Masey is newly divorced and moves with her teenage daughter to the ranch her uncle left her in a small town in Wyoming. A dead cow and an hungry bear named Earl later she meets Flint, high school teacher, school’s soccer team’s coach and no-serious-relationship kind of man.

This book was hilarious and so well written I didn’t even realise I had already devoured half of it. The main characters are made for each other, they have the same coping mechanism. If these aren’t soulmates I don’t what they are.
Very good read, had fun reading this, liked this book. 4,5⭐️

I really enjoy Pippa Grant's book and her writing style.

Not my Kind of Hero is set in a small-town, which I love about Pippa Grant's books.

While I did enjoy this book, I felt like the ending was completely rushed. I think the book could have benefited from an extended epilogue or a few more chapters to wrap things up.

My first thought after reading this book…how have I not been reading Pippa Grant until now?

Seriously, this woman slayed with this book- It’s one of the best of 2023 for sure.

She nailed small town romance with amazing characters, a wonderful storyline and OMG the steaminess that I so loved. This is a must read y’all!

Maisey is one of those female heroines who’s barely hanging on with her life in shambles when she moves to her late uncle’s ranch in Hell’s Bells Wyoming.

She’s divorced her husband who cheated on her after devoting six years of her life to his home improvement show that took her away from her daughter. With another family secret scandal casting its shadow over her and her daughter, they’re just desperate to start over in the new, small town.

But things aren’t so easy when her relationship with her sixteen-year-old daughter is tenuous at best, she has run-ins with bears and other wild animals and starts running herself ragged trying to get in good graces with the townspeople before her past can catch up with them. Plus, there’s that dilemma that she’s attracted to her neighbor who’s her daughter’s teacher and soccer coach.

I love when heroines aren’t quite perfect and have struggles that a reader can identify with. Maisey is basically starting over and is devoted to being the best mom she can be for her daughter while also trying to find herself.

Grant created such a wonderful story where you could really see Maisey’s love for her daughter, their struggle to trust each other again and Maisey’s struggle to put her daughter first when she’s starting to feel all the feelings toward Flint.

But then there was Flint…oh man did I fall for this man right along with Maisey.

While he proved an amazing neighbor and teacher to their small community, he wasn’t without his own personal struggles.

His past made him doubt his own worth so he never did committed relationships. But with his growing attraction toward Maisey, he couldn’t help but rethink his stance.

This was a man who could relate to the teens he was teaching and really be there for the community who was also there for him.

I LOVED the growing tension between neighbors and boy was their chemistry hot.

This book had the perfect amount of angst without any over the top drama because it wasn’t necessary. I loved seeing the characters’ growth and the happy ending was beautiful.

Pippa Grant made me fall in love with small town romance again.

This is a must-read for 2023 and definitely one for fans who love Things We Never Got Over.

When you are dumped by your husband, whom you had a DIY home improvement show with, and have to start over with your teenage daughter, it is tough. When you are attracted to your daughter's math teach/soccer coach, it is tough. When your mother is in prison from stealing from family, friends and colleagues, it is tough. There are so many obstacles but the town of Hell's Bells and neighbors help to brighten the future. While there was some angst, this book was full of hope and humor.
