Pippa is one of my favorite authors, so I was excited to have the opportunity to read and review this latest standalone. I enjoyed the story and particularly liked the support and acceptance that Maisey and Junie (and even Flint a few years prior) found in their new home. I'm currently watching Gilmore Girls, and some parts of this book reminded me of that show. While Flint might not have initially been Maisey's kind of hero, Maisey was certainly mine: a strong, independent woman who scraped off the barnacle first husband and made a better life for her and her daughter.
Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for providing an ARC for review.
Great job of blending humor with life drama/angst with her characters and a great plot and lets you feel you can relate to her characters.. She really draws you into the story so you can picture the town and supporting characters as well to make this a funny story that you can really relate to and leaves you wanting more books from this storyline. Full of humor and unexpected events that keep you wanting more and guessing what could possibly happen next..
Not My Kind of Hero is a light, fun and page-turning kind of read.
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, single parent, small town, found family, slapstick antics, home improvement, female DIYer 🛠️
The plot is Home Improvement meets City Slickers. It’s about second chances and characters finding themselves and rebuilding when everything has come crumbling down around them. Plus - there’s Earl 🐻
My one gripe? That the book is really pushed as being HILARIOUS. Maybe my expectations were too high. But hey, if running from a bear and falling into a mud puddle is your kind of humour, this book is for you! It’s also super light on the spice 🌶️
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Will definitely be reading more from this author. Her writing is neat!
This was not what I was expecting at all - in a good way! I went in expecting a spicy fluff book, but this was unexpectedly the perfect small-town romcom that had me hooked by the end of chapter one. Follow single-mom, and prior TV home improvement (co)star Maisey, and her 16 year old daughter Juniper, new residents of an inherited small-town ranch, as they try and fit into Hells Bells, WY, and while Maisey fights her attraction to local math teacher, grump, and ranch-tenant, Flint.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a standalone happily ever after romance!
Maisey, a new divorcée, has just moved to Hell's Bell with her teenage daughter Juniper to start her life over. There, she meets Flint, who resents her for seemingly waltzing onto the ranch property bequeathed to her by her late uncle Tony.
I thought the beginning of the book was a little too slow-paced. In my view, M & F could've gotten it on way before they actually did 😂
I thought too that the ending was a bit rushed. Would've loved to see a bit more of them as a family with June before she went off to college. Would've especially loved to read about her experience in driver's ed instead of Flint only referring to it as a past event.
As always, I'm a big fan of Pippa Grant's work. The dialogue had me cackling at some very awkward times, like always. Characters were well fleshed out. Definitely would recommend.
Not My Kind of Hero has Maisey who with her husband stars on a reality television DIY show. When her husband leaves her for a younger model she moves with her 16 year old daughter to Wyoming where her deceased Uncle has left her his small farm.
Flint a local school teacher and soccer team coach rents a small cabin on the farm and is unhappy with Maisey being there. As far as he’s concerned she doesn’t deserve the farm having not visited her uncle for years. Maisey is determined to repair her relationship with her daughter and restore the rather dilapidated farm buildings.
There are a lots of laughs in this book with some great scenes and wonderful dialogue, a cast of well developed characters add much to this story. Flint and Maisey are taking a journey both believing they are not good enough for each other or the community. Here we have depth as we take the journey with them as they begin to heal themselves and realise their true worth.
A really enjoyable read that is engrossing and well written, highly recommended.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
We all know how outrageous and funny this author's characters and series can be (and we love her for those), but this kind of story is where Pippa's creativity shines the brightest. If you are new to the "Pippaverse", this book is a wonderful place to start. I promise - you'll want to read more from her!
I fell in love with Wit's End, and the community of Hell's Bells. I mean, how can you not, when there's a cow named Gingersnap and a bear named Earl!
It is a whole new world to Maisey and Junie when they arrive at their new home, but they desperately want to fit in, and belong.
Flint a High School math teacher (and all-around helpful guy around town) who has survived life events that
have convinced him that being alone is the best choice. He is surprised when these two invade "his" space, and they are more skilled and capable than he originally assumed. I was drawn to Maisey and her goal to be the best parent to her child. This should be every parent's objective, but sadly, it's not. Junie and Maisey have many emotional issues they wrestle with, least of which is their recent relocation. It was easy to empathize and connect with these characters and their struggles..
The slow burn between Flint and Maisey is engaging and entertaining. While there are very funny parts in this story, my favorite part is all of the connections formed between the characters, and the support given to all. That is my very favorite part of this author's talent, how her stories deliver easy-to-love characters, and how much I enjoy them.. While there are many talented Rom-Com authors out there, very few are able to deliver all the emotional "feels" that were delivered in these pages. I found myself thrilled at their "Happy Ever After", but sad that my time with them was done. I highly recommend this author and this book.
I was fortunate to receive a free ARC copy of this from Montlake and Netgalley. I voluntarily leave my review.
Another win for Pippa Grant!
I always love the small town vibes her books have, even when set in a not so small town. This book, which is actually set in a small town was perfect. She is able to get the small town vibes, along with the humor down. I really enjoyed Maisey and Flint's story, and hope that there will be another book taking us back to Hell's Bells. The connection between Tony and each of the main characters brought the story more depth and life, and Gingersnap has a life of her own. I felt that you can feel the love between Maisey and her daughter Junie, and the real struggle they both are going through to deal with the different falls out happening in their lives.
After a messy divorce, Maisey and her daughter flee to Wyoming to fix up her late uncle’s ranch. At first the two struggle to fit in but eventually they find love, appreciation, acceptance, and a way to move on from a messy chapter of their lives.

Is it a meet cute if he gets thrown from his horse? I really enjoyed reading this. It’s a great small town romance and a bit of a slow burn but in the best way. Maisey our FMC is sweet and funny, completely relatable and a joy to read. Flint is grumpy but sweet and such a good guy. I loved that Junie was such an important part of the story and the addition of Earl was perfect. This chemistry was just chefs kiss and the shenanigans were funny. This author is new to me but I will definitely be reading more of her books on the future.

the only reason i started this was because it involves the single mom trope, one of my fav. tropes ever and it was pretty good. while i did liked this book it was still too cheasy sometimes for me & i do think the ending was little too rushed while the whole book was really slow pasted which was great because the characters really needed the time to involve the tension between them.
thank you so much for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really sweet small town enemies to lovers single parent romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read a single parent romance with a teen and I forgot how different they are from toddler/small child single parent romances, junie was def her own person and own character in this story and the main road block between Maisey and Flint. Once flint got his head out of his a** and realized Maisey wasn’t the villain he thought she was, that is. A little bit western romance a little bit child’s teacher romance there’s a lot going on in this book but it all meshes well together! I enjoyed this one 3.5 stars
Pippa Grant did it again! The first scene of the book made me laugh so hard. There are so many hilarious scenes. You will fall in love with another small town, and the main characters.
Cute Rom Com with many of the fun 'city to country' obstacles, teenage angst, of course a super hot ranch hand and the neighborhood bear. Great for weekend or vacation relaxing.
In this romance, Pippa Grant introduced us to characters with surprising depth. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this cowboy romance. With quirky place names like Hell's Bells, Grant brings this town and its inhabitants to life!
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the opportunity to read and review.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. This one took by surprise!
5⭐️s! Loved it!
Oh my, I absolutely loved this book! I had so many laugh out loud moments & then there were also the serious conversations that melted my heart. What a wonderful book about dead cows, community & taking a little time for yourself to just be.
Maisey and her teenage daughter Juniper (Junie) have spent less than 24 hours in their new home at a hobby ranch in Wyoming and things are already getting hairy.
Very hairy, with claws and teeth, in the form of a bear named Earl and a bear of a man riding in on horseback to save the day.
But Maisey is bound and determined to ignore his copper beard, his straining muscles, and his deep voice while he scares of the bear. She's recently divorced from a tool who hosts a home improvement show and has sworn of men. Even surly men who can take on a bear without breaking a sweat...
You will instantly love Flint and Maisey in Not My Kind of Hero. Their banter, the sticky situations they get into, and their flirting are top notch. I love that Flint kept accusing her of trying to seduce him when she was simply existing. He was so into her that something as simple as her presence in his general vicinity was a major turn-on for her.
Both Flint and Maisey had a lot of issues to work through, and I love that he was willing to wait until SHE was ready to move on. There was no pressure or conniving, just complete understanding as to what she needed.
Junie was another high point of the book. She encompassed all the frustrating and fantastic aspects of raising a teenager, and her heart was set on making sure her mom was never treated poorly again. It made my momma heart swoon!
Not My Kind of Hero is the perfect small town romance. Fans of strong, adept women and protective, intelligent men need to grab this one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my first date with this author and I had a really fun and great time reading this book! This character is a recently divorced mom who comes out of a marriage with a teenage daughter and looking for a world in which she can restore peace with herself and find a new path to happiness.
I loved the fun, energetic and very much down to Earth writing voice of this heroine! She is fun, she is fierce, she is not afraid to fail. This author does not let you rest even for a second - her adventures ( fun, silly, unexpected and full of romantic tension) just keep on coming non-stop!
It was a fun read, endearing and quite mature delving into more matures issues the heroes are dealing with.
Maisie and Flint's book was full of laugh out loud moments and heartfelt, might make you cry moments. Maisie moves to her uncle's property to escape a public divorce with her sixteen yr old June and the calamities ensue from the get go! Flint is hiding in his town after a very public breakup of his own and vows to never again get involved with a student's Mom...and we all know how that works out! June's story line throughout the book is the heartfelt moments this books needs between all the comedy bits. But most important in this book is the love these small town people have for each other. Great book from start to finish and I just hope there's much more to come from Hell's Bells!
