This was such a heartwarming read! I loved all of the
characters in Hell' Bells who welcomes Maisey and Junie
with open arms and made them feel like they belonged
instantly.
Flint and Maisey's story took enemies to lovers to another
level with their slow burn romance. I loved the relationship
between Maisey and a June as they grew closer throughout
the story. This book also highlights strong, independent
female characters in both mother and daughter.
Reeling after her public divorce and mother's prison
sentence, Maisey takes refuge with her daughter in her
uncle's ranch in Hell's Bells. She can't imagine why he left
her the ranch, but is grateful they have somewhere to go
where maybe not everyone knows their story. She throws
herself into fixing up the ranch and trying to find her place in
the new town while trying to earn her daughter, June's trust
again. She is focused only on herself and mending her
relationship with June, when the tenant and highschool
coach, Flint, enters the picture. They have instant chemistry,
but she can't bring herself to admit her attraction to him.
It isn't that easy because she swore she would put her
daughter first. June is having a hard enough time adjusting
to her new life as it is.
Through trials and tribulations, growing pains and new
relationship, both mother and daughter grow closer while
healing from the past they left behind
Thank you so much for this advanced reader's copy! This
book releases on August 15.
I love Pippa Grants books. Her other books can be zany and a bit over the top, this once still has laughs, but is more down to earth. Maisey Spencer and her sixteen year old daughter Junie, are moving to Wyoming to a ranch Maisey inherited from her uncle Tony. Maisey has gone through a really tough divorce from her husband. They were on a reality fixer upper television program, where she was portrayed as the inept handywoman and her husband saves the day. The reality was quite different. Maisey is feeling serious mother guilt as she feels that she wasn’t there enough for her daughter while she was trying to help her husband succeed on the show. Maisey hopes that she can make things up to her daughter. Flint Jackson is the local High School math teacher, soccer coach and tenant of Maisey’s Uncle Tony. They have a “meet cute” involving a local bear named Earl and a beloved cow, Gingersnap, trust me, you just need to read it. This seems to be an opposites attract story, his grumpy to her sunshine. But once you get beyond the surface, Maisey and Flint have a lot more in common. This is a really great story, that will pull at your heartstrings. This looks like a standalone, and I am bummed as I loved this town and all of it’s inhabitants. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Not My Kind of Hero is a standalone rom-com by Pippa Grant w/dual POV
Tropes:
⭐ small town
⭐ single parent
⭐ forbidden
Pippa Grant's latest romantic comedy, set in the picturesque landscape of Hell's Bells, Wyoming, is an absolute delight. NOT MY KIND OF HERO follows the journey of Maisey Spencer, a resilient single mom, as she takes on the challenge of reviving her inherited ranch while navigating the ups and downs of small-town life. The story takes an amusing twist when she discovers that her grumpy but undeniably attractive tenant is none other than her daughter's math teacher and soccer coach, Flint Jackson.
One of the highlights of the novel is Grant's portrayal of realistic and relatable characters. Maisey's daughter, Juniper, is a refreshing teenage character with her eye rolls and sassiness. Moreover, both Maisey and Flint are wonderfully flawed individuals, each carrying their emotional baggage from their pasts. Yet, their connection is undeniable, and their mutual respect and understanding for one another's struggles make them a compelling pair.
The novel's strength lies in the strong and badass heroine that Maisey embodies. Grant beautifully captures her fierce independence and determination to fix her life without needing a man. The chemistry between Maisey and Flint sizzles on the pages, making their banter and interactions thoroughly entertaining. It's heartwarming to see how Flint recognizes Maisey's strength and supports her as she strives to be a better mother to Juniper.
The small-town community of Hell's Bells adds a delightful touch to the story. Grant crafts a close-knit community where everyone looks out for each other, free of judgment. The warmth and camaraderie of the residents create a heartwarming backdrop to Maisey and Flint's love story.
NOT MY KIND OF HERO is a delightful rom-com that ticks all the right boxes. Pippa Grant's skillful storytelling, coupled with well-rounded and authentic characters, makes for an entertaining and heartwarming read. This novel is a must-read for those who appreciate a strong, independent heroine, a grumpy but lovable hero, and the joy of finding love in unexpected places.

Not My Kind Of Hero is a stand alone rom-com. Pippa Grant fans will recognize her signature humor right in the opening scene with a cow and a cantankerous bear, Earl. As with all Pippa Grant books you get the humor with the heart and characters that transport you right into the book from start to finish.
Maisey Spencer is a newly divorced single mom who moves to Hell’s Bells, Wyoming, to escape scandal in her old town. She’s determined to put her daughter, Junie, first after years of putting her ex-husband first. Maisey inherited a hobby ranch from her uncle and meets Flint Jackson, who rents the ranch’s gatehouse. Flint takes an instant dislike to Maisey based on assumptions he’s made. And in doing so he vastly underestimates her in every way. Flint is determined to stay away from Maisey until he begins to realize their commonalities. They each have their reasons for fighting their attraction and hilariously struggle with it all the way to their HEA. It was fun to see just how wrong Flint and Maisey were about each other and to watch them finally give in to their attraction. And it was heartwarming to see how the town accepted Maisey and Junie just as they accepted Flint years ago.
Grab a copy of this if you’re looking for a heartwarming rom-com with plenty of heat and heart. You can’t go wrong with a Pippa Grant story and her signature humor is woven throughout.
Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the opportunity to ARC review this.
Maisy Spencer needs a safe place to start over with her 16 year old daughter Juniper. Her mom has just been arrested for fraudulent home owners associations, and her ex (and ex home renovation show cohost) has very publicly moved on with his mistress. Maisy’s Uncle Tony left her his ranch, Wit’s End, in Hell’s Bells, Wyoming knowing she would someday need a soft place to land. Maisy and Juniper’s fresh start gets off on the wrong foot thanks to a dead cow, a mischievous bear named Earl, and the gatehouse renter Flint Jackson who wants nothing to do with the “as seen on tv” airhead. Flint quickly learns all he knew about Maisy was wrong, though, and before long he’s wondering why he ever underestimated her.
This book surprised me in the best way! It was sweet, funny, charming and filled with sizzling banter and chemistry. Maisy is so relatable as a tired mom just trying her best for her child. Juniper is one of the most realistic but not annoying teen characters I’ve read. Flint started as a perfect grumpy foil to Maisy’s relentless optimism and as his icy exterior melted became a kind, compassionate and thoughtful hero.

"Who do you become when you never put yourself first?"
My first novel by the funny AF Pippa Grant, and i managed to find the one designed to make me think about everything before sex & smexy times!
Don't worry, if you're looking for the stupendously hilarious Pippa, she’s still here, and the first ten minutes of Not My Kind Of Hero I kind of gigglesnorted my way through! But it's also very apparent this book is designed to make you feel, and WOW! does it ever!!
I adored Maisey and Juniper and felt some serious rage on their behalf for everything they'd been through, even when Maisey tries to put a funny "look what happened to us" spin on it instead of wallowing in the misery of the last I dont know, SIXTEEN YEARS of her life?? Maisey is one of the strongest women I've ever read, even though you can feel a kind of underlying desperation to make DAMN SURE that Junie and everyone else know that she’s putting Juniper first. She’s not trying to find a man, she’s trying to find a home, and a hometown, that will accept her and her daughter.
Flint is very obviously lost and the typical "angry man" at the beginning of Hero. He wants to hate Maisey. After all she got everything he ever wanted, and she didnt even have to visit to get it. And now she won't even let him bring his students to Uncle Tony's farm, something about liability, blah, blah, hurt kids, falling barns. So what if Junie DID manage to knock down a barn with a well placed kick?
The best thing about Not My Kind of Hero is towards the end when you don’t know anymore which one is the Hero. Is it Maisey for being her typical bada$$ self and showing everyone how she can totally show up for her daughter, mother, the town, and heck yeah even Flint? Or is it Flint for giving Maisey and Juniper something they've never gotten to experience in their whole lives?
Pippa Grant is AMAZING, and I've fallen deeply in love with Not My Kind Of Hero. Five stars for a book that builds true love, acceptance, and redemption for two characters who have been searching their whole lives for the beauty they find in each other. This will definitely NOT be my last book by Pippa!!

Not My Kind of Hero is the newest romantic comedy from Pippa Grant releasing August 15th and OMG I enjoyed this book so much!
After a disastrous few months, Maisey and her daughter, Juniper, decide to move to a ranch Maisey inherited from her late uncle in a small town and start a new life. Everything goes according to the plan until they meet Flint, their handsome new neighbor who seems to find Maisey annoying without any reason and makes her life difficult. Maisey and Flint are not looking for love and argue all the time, but despite their disagreements, with each their meeting the attraction between them grows and they will have to decide if relationship between them is even possible since Flint is Juniper’s teacher and he swore off dating his students’s parents a long time ago.
Despite their rocky beginning, Maisey and Flint were perfect for each other, there was so much tension between them since their first meeting and I loved the banter, I was laughing out loud so many times at how hilarious they were. After their terrible previous relationships, these two deserved a happy ending and I loved seeing their relationship grow from enemies to kind of friends to lovers, they were simply amazing together. I also liked Maisey’s relationship with her daughter Juniper, it wasn’t easy for them to leave their old life and start anew, but I loved how despite their disagreements, Maisey always put her daughter and her needs first and how Flint always supported her decisions, even at a cost of their own happiness.
Not My Kind of Hero is a really great romantic comedy with amazing characters, beautiful and spicy romance, many laugh out loud moments and some emotional scenes that I really loved and already can’t wait for the next book from Pippa Grant!
Pippa brings us a great book that not only includes an adorable romance, but a much deeper story of love of your family. When Maisey moves her daughter far away from the home that she has known for her whole life to start over, things get dicey. Things to look for in this book:
Small town romance ✔️
Single mother ✔️
Forced proximity ✔️
Enemies to friends to lovers ✔️
Slow burn ✔️
Daughters teacher/coach ✔️
So much healing ✔️
When Maisey finds out that her husband of many years has been cheating on her and making a mockery of her on national television where they have a home improvement show, she immediately gets herself away from that situation. When she arrives at Wits End ranch, she does not get a warm welcome from the man, Flint, taking care of her uncles farm.
Flint does not want this imposter who couldn’t even bother to show up to her uncles funeral anywhere near the farm. But what do they say about not judging a book by their cover? Flint slowly realizes that he is mistaken about Maisey and doesn’t realize how amazing she is.
And even though the two of them have this intense attraction, they can’t act on it because for Maisey, her daughter June must come first. And Flint doesn’t do relationships because of past trauma, so this is all a recipe for disaster,
Until they find a way to make it work. But the big question here is will they make it? Or are they doomed before they even began?
This story was full of so many emotions and relationships. The two biggest ones were Maisey and her daughter June and the two of them becoming a team after they were continually hurt by June’s daughter/Maisey’s ex. And I loved the character development between these two! By the end of the book, we get to see completely different characters than the two that showed up to Wits End and ran right into a bear. Now Flint and Maisey’s relationship was an extremely slow burn, but you could tell how each of them was holding so strong on what they thought was right instead of leading with their hearts.
I loooooved this story!! Maisey and her daughter, Junie, move to the small town that Flint lives in to take over her uncles estate. Flint is not used to a strong, independent woman who knows her way around house repairs, but that is only one of the things that attracts him to Maisey. She is determined to put her daughter first which means Flint gets nothing until Junie goes to college in two years. As they continue to fight their attraction to each other, Junie and Maisey start to fit more in with the people in town and the possibility of it becoming a full time place to be becomes scary. Will they learn to trust Flint or will Maisey's ex husband ruin healthy relationships for both of them?
I loved the way that Flint was patient and waiting for Maisey to be ready and that he wanted to earn Junie's trust all while being fair about her missing soccer tryouts. I really felt for Junie and how she felt like her mom tore her away from her friends and how her dad did not want anything to do with her unless it benefitted him. The way she came to respect and care for Flint for how he made her mom happy was adorable.
Thanks to Montlake, Pippa, and Rick for this advanced copy!
After a disasterous and very public divorce Maisey decided that she and her daughter could use a change of scenery. Her uncle's ranch was a wonderful place to stay during her summers and now that it's hers, it's seems like the perfect sanctuary to re build her life.
Flint is living on the ranch and helps take care of business since her uncle died, he is definitely not sold on her intentions and definitely not sold on her staying there once the snow hits.
Is there a more beloved scenario than moving up to live in a ranch with minimum ranch experience in a small town where everyone knows each other bussiness? I think not, and it's a favorite for a reason.
I liked how Maisey didn't back down from the challenges that kept on coming, from the renovations that needed to be made, her daughter who hated her new life, to the grumpy tenant that already had made up his mind about her before meeting her.
Flint has very complicate feelings about her, from the one hand he is attracted to her, but he is sure she won't be here to stay and on top of it all, he is her daughter's teacher. The last and only time he got involved with a student's parent he ended up moving in this small town.
This was a fun read with many interesting side characters. The small town was a joy to read about.
I liked the romance but there were more than once a will they won't they delay which dragged a bit in the middle since we knew they would. I hoped that Flint would be more willing to take a risk, especially since Maisey had more to lose and a daughter to think of.
*I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Not My Kind of Hero is the story of Flint and Maisey who meet in the strangest circumstances involving a bear and a cow. At first, I wasn't sure what this book was about but I am so glad I carried on reading (out of sheer curiosity to see where this was headed) because this book was absolutely brilliant. It fast became hard for me to put down and I really wanted to know how Flint and Maisey would get their HEA. I loved all the characters in this book and some of the situations had me laughing out loud while others had me swallowing hard. This easily gets five big fat stars from me. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for my ARC.
Pippa Grant has officially made my list of authors I will automatically read.
I absolutely adored this story.
Flint and Maisey's chemistry was off the charts. I will forever love a grumpy/sunshine, single parent romance. The fact that Maisey wasn't just a single parent who has always done the right thing, and the fact that she recognizes her flaws really made me like her as a person more. And it was actually really nice to see an MMC who recognizes that he's actually a good person. He wasn't arrogant about it at all, but I loved seeing that he still struggled with his self-image, while still thinking he was doing an okay job.
I also loved the idea that they saw themselves in one another, and that that was what helped them to come to terms with being happy. *sigh* true love.
Juniper was so realistic as a teenager. I wanted to throttle her at times, but she also made me crack up with her teenage mood swings. I love how her relationship with her mom blossoms - yes, I cried - and the fact that she and Flint go from having a wary understanding to fully respecting and trusting one another is just heart melting.
If you love swoony romance with laugh out loud moments, and random cow and bear cameos, I totally recommend this book. I for one will be tackling Pippa's entire catalogue, now.
Thank you to the author for an e-arc in return for an honest review
I loved this story. Maisey is a strong mom who is figuring herself out after a very public divorce from her husband and reality tv co-star. Her eclectic Uncle Tony left her his hobby ranch when he passed and off she goes to reestablish her life for herself and her teenage daughter, June.
Meet Flint, the grumpy and attractive tenant on the property. Who happens to be a teacher at the local HS and soccer coach. Pippa takes you on an adventure of these two trying their hardest to deny their attraction to each other while also showing us how Maisey is doing the work to be a great mom. There are a whole host of amazing and hilarious supporting characters that make you fall in love with this small town including a wayward cow and an overly eager bear.
Thank you Net Galley and Montlake for this ARC. All options here are my own.

Ready for some swoon, fun and slow burn? Not My Kind of Hero by Pippa Grant brings the witty and entertaining side of a small town enemies to lovers romance, along with the slowly building sizzling chemistry and heartaching feels.
Maisey Spencer is a superstar all the way. She is a single mom coming out of a terrible marriage and nasty divorce, moving to a small town hobby ranch with a rebellious teenager and fighting hard for a fresh start..and with all the negativity and obstacles piling up against her, she still shines bright with her brilliant loving heart, her sass and her quiet strength. Falling for her daughter's teacher aka her driveway neighbor wasn't in the card but Flint Jackson has his own grumpy brooding charm.
An outsider himself, Flint tried his best to fit and belong here, going above and beyond for the town and giving a safe space for the teenagers who are lost like he was once. He is bossy and grumpy abd alpha and a good guy who hides behind his brooding mask.Maisey's uncle was his close friend even with the age gap and he had some preset ideas about Maisey as he only knew her as the airhead from the reality TV home Improvement show with her good for nothing husband. But now he sees she is something else. Sweet. Strong for her daughter. A mother who will sacrifice everything for her daughter. A woman getting hit from all side but still fighting and standing strong. And his commitment phobic anti-love heart got obsessed. But she is off limits for many reasons and exactly the reason he got even more obsessed with her. Maisey resisted their scorching hot chemistry because she wanted to put her daughter first but slowly she realised doing something for her happiness isn’t damaging to her daughter. It was an exquisite slow burn with perfect build up! The enemies to lovers tension. The heartbreaking parts. And obviously, the charm of a small town. Maisey and Flint are more alike than they initially thought. Both are running away from past. Both have emotional baggage. Both have not experienced real love. And together they healed each other.
PS JUNIPER IS THE COOLEST GIRL EVER! Gahh I love her innocence, her spark, her open minded ways..and My heart broke for her! I am so happy she found a new family in form of a whole town and Flint.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
What I loved about this book:
🏘️ Small town setting
💭 Dual POV
👩🏻❤️👨🏻 Forced proximity
👩👦 Single mother
👨🏫 He's her teenage daughter's teacher and coach
🤫 Forbidden romance
❤️🔥 SO much tension
❤️🩹 Healing from toxic relationships, both parental and romantic
🐻 Earl the bear
I could not put this book down! It was so well written and it was so much fun! The instant tension between Flint and Maisey was explosive, honestly. While is started off as animosity, due mainly to silly assumptions and misconceptions, once these two really got to know each other, they were inevitable.
I loved their banter and the humour in their relationship. It was nice to read about adults who actually had some emotional intelligence and communicated their feelings towards each other. There was no third act break up, really, just a little break before being set up for a cute reunion.
Maisey was such a wonderful mother and the love, care and support that she gave Junie was everything. I loved their relationship and how open and honest it became. I also loved how Flint fit into their dynamic!
I can't fault this book. Instant five stars. Highly recommend!
this was so special. the love in this book was so raw, real, and pure. i dream of experiencing an true love like this. these characters just understand each other so deeply and it made my chest ache because of how special it felt while reading their story. absolutely incredible!!
Not my kind of hero by Pippa Grant
5/5 stars and infinity in my heart
Pippa Grant knows how to make me laugh out loud one moment and sob the next or sob and laugh at the same time. The struggles and emotions of the main characters are so beautifully conveyed, yet the essence of the character shines through.
Maisey and Flint. These two!!! I really enjoyed the banter and the chemistry they had from the first page and just their journey. I could not focus on anything else than the beautiful story of these two lonely souls finding their own love and with each other. They just shot up in my top 5 favorite Pippa characters. I just love how their story unfolded and the slow burn almost killed me, but I survived.
Junie gets a special mention because not only can PG write adult characters well, she can encapsulate the teenage struggle so well. I love her with both Maisey and Flint. I really hope we get to see these characters and this location again. I really want to go to the small towns that PG writes about and go and vacation there lol.
I can’t particularly articulate how fun and emotional and just wonderful this book is! Please check it out on August 17th, and I promise y’all will not be dissapointed.
A very grateful thank you to @pippa.grant for writing this book ,
@rick_283 for signing up and always providing me great opportunities for ARCs
@amazonmarketplace and @netgalley for the eARC copy.
This had all the heart and humor you expect from Grant, but slightly less heat.
I loved this story of a single mom trying to remake herself in a small town. Maisy and Junie were a terrific mother/daughter team despite their rocky start with a bear, a dead cow and a surly tenant.
Maisy worms her way into everyone’s heart, even the confirmed bachelor who pretends he doesn’t have one. And Junie shows surprising maturity as a transplanted high schooler.
Would have loved a little more ending with this found family. I wasn’t ready to let them go! Totally recommend this standalone romance!!
I really enjoyed this little escape to the Wit’s End hobby ranch and getting to know Maisey, Flint, Junie and the rest of the town of Hell’s Bells, Wyoming. Not My Kind of Hero is a dual POV, small town, slow burn enemies-to-lovers story featuring Maisey and Flint.
Maisey, recently divorced, is no shrinking violet. She sticks up for herself, isn’t an idiot or mean and is in her mid-to-late 30’s. Flint is a high school math teacher and soccer coach who truly loves his job, and is Hell’s Bells resident heartthrob that can’t be pinned down.
NMKOH also features Junie, Maisey’s sixteen-year-old daughter. She is a well developed secondary character and, more importantly, is portrayed realistically. The animals - Gingersnap, Earl, and Parsnip - add depth and an authenticity to NMKOH. Even Maisey’s deceased uncle - from whom she inherited Wit’s End - has a strong presence. NMKOH is full of likable characters and is filled with funny, silly, touching, and heartwarming moments.
Not My Kind of Hero isn’t a literary masterpiece, but it is a masterpiece of enjoyable reading: heartwarming and low on unnecessary drama. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for providing a digital ARC for review. Not My Kind of Hero is available on 15 August 2023.
