Astrid (4) chose this one to review based on it having poop in the title!
We loved it! Astrid was engaged the whole way through and Juno (21 months) actually sat through it too which is unusual as she often gets bored with longer books.
Astrid enjoyed the story and picked up on the repetition quickly. She also foresaw the inevitable ending!
I enjoyed the level of detail in the illustrations. It’s one of those books where you spot some small element you’ve missed each time you read it. I also loved that it featured a non white family.
This was nice as an ebook but I think we’ll invest in the physical book as my kids like to hold the book and turn the pages.
You need to read The Boy Who Cried Poop!
This book will make you laugh. (I laughed…maybe shouldn’t have read it on my phone during my kid’s gymnastics class.)
This book will make your kids laugh. (My son laughed a lot…and I now fear he is going to claim he needs to poop when he doesn’t and it will be hilarious to him.)
Knowing that this book is based on a true story makes me so happy - it is just hilarious and relatable, and sometimes a silly book is exactly what we need!
A great book for any potty training toddler - everyone poops and everyone has accidents! I would recommend this to any of my mum/dad pals who’s child keeps having accidents.
The Boy who Cried Poop.
My children decided we HAD to read this book and I'll give them points, it was funny.
The title and illustrations drew the children in. All the situations the family encounters in the stairwell definitely invoked many giggles although the actual issue made me a little queasy. I did find the dad very relatable!
The moral of the story is a good one. The children loved it and as the targeted audience their opinion matters most.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto books for the opportunity to review.
We were gifted a digital copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was a funny and quirky story about having to use the bathroom but due to extra-curricular activities going on ones feeling of having to use the bathroom magically goes away once you get to a bathroom. Children of all ages would get a good laugh out of this story about a boy who cried poop ! The pictorials of this story cracked me up the entire way through. I cant wait to read this to my little niece and nephew's and get their reactions on the boy who cried poop!
As a mum I totally understand that kids needs the toilet at the worst times!!!
This was accurate haha
The illustrations were fun and colourful
I loved the message that mistakes happen and it's okay
I also loved the little poop at the end in the pool haha
A fun book
I read this with my 6 year old son. He found this book to be hilarious and laughed out loud a few times. As a parent, the book was relatable and I liked the message of the book that everyone has accidents sometimes.
However, I struggle to want to read this with my 3.5 year old who is still needing reminders on potty training and while yes it’s ok to have accidents, am trying really hard not to encourage it especially by the pool headed into summer.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
A hilarious trip up and down the stairs for the bathroom ends with heartwarming moments for this family. This book would be great for a public library or preschool program but may be too much for my elementary school kiddos to handle!
The Boy Who Cried Poop by Alessandra Requena is a fun story with great pictures. The plot is pretty elementary, but the delight comes from the great visuals and the stories the neighbors at the pool share with each other.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.
What a relatable book for all ages! This book was funny and silly and had great illustrations. I read it with my 8 year old daughter and she also enjoyed the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
It's hilarious and entertaining, especially given that it's based on a true story; I can't imagine how tired Dad must be going up and down the stairs, upsetting Marc's family. I'm thoroughly entertained.
Sometimes there are books that are truly entertaining for the whole family and this is one of them! My son, who is potty training at the moment, seemed to greatly enjoy it and my husband commented, “I think this book is really for the Dads!” The hallway scenes are delightful, the illustrations are hysterical, and the entire thing is relatable and reassuring if potty training is now or has ever happened in your house.
Funny and relatable book for kids and adults! False alarms, 168 steps, as a parent you’ve been there - and it helps to laugh about it and normalize accidents.
Thank you, Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books, for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yes, exactly what the title says!
This happens in real to parents when adults start enjoying fun activities, kids just have to poop. And you know the problem with this. They just can’t do it alone. This story describes the real dilemma!
I find the illustrations really fun. It’s the highlight I say!
A little over dramatic in the end, it’s a fun read!
Thank you, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, for the advance reading copy.
Everyone loves a good poop story, even adults. I love the details of the different people the family passes during their multiple trips to and from the pool. The illustrations are fantastic.
This book was cute. How many times as parents do we deal with our children saying “I have to poop” when they really don’t have to? All the time!! It’s a hassle each time.
This book taught kids that is it okay to have accidents.
This book is so fun! My kids love silly stories and I know that they will love this one too. It takes a really uncomfortable situation that almost all kids will experience at some point and makes it light hearted reminding us all that accidents happen! Look forward to getting a hard copy!
This is such a funny, relatable story about poo accidents.l that kids will ask for over and over.
Marc needs a poo, but every time his dad carries him up the steps to the toilet, nothing happens. As they head up and down the stairs we encounter various hilarious unlikely characters.
On the second false alarm, family members start to give Marc embarrassing tips to help him go. It all goes wrong and eventually, there’s an accident in the pool.
This is such fun to read aloud! Kids will be laughing out loudly as the tension builds. Dad exhausts himself going up those stairs and his sister becomes increasingly exasperated. ‘Just poop already’ she shouts at him.
The anecdotes shared by the other swimmers to make Marc feel better are equally as funny as Marc’s own episode.
‘Because everybody poops their pants sometimes’. Now there’s a catchphrase kids will be repeating at each other after reading this😂
A funny, relatable read aloud that normalises accidents and will resonate with many! I can already tell my kids are going to love this book.
such a funny book, very good for kids and just brings out laughter! recommend it very much, the pictures are also drawn amazingly so props to the ilustrator!
