Well it was definitely interesting. A short and quite funny read, doesn’t seem to be taking itself to seriously which I like
My biggest issue is that Dino’s have cloaca’s not 🍆
Listening to the audiobook did not make this any better of a book....read at your own risk.
The hard no for me was when he eats her arm.
lol I cant tell if I loved this or hated it. it was better than I expected considering I had very low expectations but im not sure if I would actually recommend this to anyone. its good for a laugh and obviously spice level is there.
Wet Hot Allosaurus Summer is a surprisingly funny and tender love story between a farmer girl and a dinosaur.
I have been wanting to read this one for a while, I love monster romance and want to read as much of them as I can, so when I saw this available under listen now on Netgalley I jumped on the chance to give this one a listen.
First off, let's start with the narrator. I absolutely loved this narrator for this book. She did an amazing job breathing life into Tanis, and made reading about Tanis and Big Al's love story that much better. I loved her performance, and want to listen to more books she's narrated.
The actual story can be hard to judge because of the length, but I did enjoy Tanis's and Big Al's relationship. The beginning was a little shaky for me, a lot was happening at once. I know that it's a short book, so everything has to happen fast, but I would have liked a bit more exposition before getting into the naughty bits.
Obviously, this is Dinosaur x Human erotica, so the sexy scenes start off pretty much right off the bat. I didn't expect Big Al to be an actual Dinosaur, usually it's a shifter situation, but I actually didn't mind the fact that he was actually dinosaur-like.
Overall, this was a cute quick read filled with sexy dinosaurs and a woman who just wants to make the world see Big Al for what he is. I would recommend this to anyone who likes monster romance, and to anyone who wants a quick romance read.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing a free audio edition of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
While I was excited at the idea of this dinosaur themed spicy world, the narration felt very monotone and the writing itself was relatively juvenile and not descriptive (yet descriptive in the worse way simultaneously).
Unfortunately, this one wasn’t for me however I adore the concept in theory!
I can not believe this book has such a bad rating. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and had a great time. Is this book a literary masterpiece? Absolutely not, but I don't believe that's what the author was going for. This is dinosaur erotica, not a book Jane Austen would be reading. The metaphors were amazing and hilarious. I shared many quotes on Instagram stories as I was reading (audio +ebook) and my viewers were loving it! We were laugh crying at least 80% of the time. We have even decided to keep going and read the rest of the books in the series.
Thank you for this book Netgalley.
I can't resist the ridiculousness of these books! I read one on a lark, but if you can just suspend reality for a few hours, this book is hilarious, entertaining, titillating - I keep coming back to Lola Faust's dino erotica! I gave it 4 stars just for the pure novelty and creativity. Read it!
This is a love story between Tanis, a Canadian farm girl, and Big Al, an 8 foot tall Allosaurus male. Yes, a dinosaur. Dinosaurs have been revived by science, trained to be laborers, and given special implants so they can telepathically communicate with humans when touching them. Turns out they’re super intelligent and very good at communicating in English. Oh yeah and they apparently have the anatomy to have happy fun times with human women.
Not gonna lie I didn’t go into this book blind. I saw a spoiler review for this on TikTok a good while ago so I knew a couple things about this from the start (namely the arm incident). When I saw the audiobook on Netgalley I just had to get it though. I’ve been dipping my toe into monster romance and I couldn’t pass up reading this for free.
When I came on here and saw the star rating it was sitting at I was super worried (2.2 as of this review) but this was much better than I thought it would be. The writing was mostly good. I really liked Big Al as a character. He was surprisingly well rounded out for the book being so short. I liked the bits of his backstory that were sprinkled throughout the book. There were even very small portions where you could forget he’s a flipping dinosaur (but you get rapidly reminded that that is indeed what he his). The story is just a wild ride from start to finish and it kept me hooked. The book is very short and I read it in one sitting so if you want a quick read of this specific type this is a good one for it. I absolutely loved how the story ended and I’m not gonna lie I kind of want to read more about the two of them. I listened to this as an audiobook and I very much liked the narration.
I do have several complaints despite how much I enjoyed this. 99% of the human males in this book were absolute garbage. Her dad exploits her labor in the farm and every man that she’s not related to that she comes across wants to take advantage of her. I’m mildy uncomfortable with Tanis being 17 at the start of this but it’s not like you get told how old Big Al is (how would figuring out appropriate age ranges for human /dinosaur relations even work tbh). Tanis is compared to some kind of food entirely too many times to be comfortable with, especially considering the arm incident. Some of the spicy scene writing is super awkwardly written and the metaphors are very forced at times. There is a particular spice scene halfway through the book that was slightly uncomfortable to read (yes more than normal) that I understand but I kind of wish wasn’t in the book. And I can’t believe I’m saying this but the relationship between Tanis the human and Big Al the dinosaur was extremely insta love. Their first spicy scene is like 2 minutes after they meet.
Overall I really liked the reading experience for this and I’m not mad I read it. I 100% don’t recommend this for the general romance audience but I do for a very select monster romance crowd. Wild def consider reading more books by the author.
I enjoyed the world that Lola put us into! The narrator did a great job in differentiating voices between characters, and the plot was easy to follow along with.
Tanis’s choices at times were a tad questionable, but that’s what made her an interesting character to me!
I wish we would have had more backstory on Big Al, the commune they joined, and the relationship between Tanis and her father and brothers.
Y’all! This is a literal wild ride. This is an outlandish read, you can not take it too seriously. If you can do that this is a pretty fun read.
This is what you think it is. Allosaurus x Human erotica.
This does what it sets out to do well. It's entertaining to read, and while I wouldn't say it's as well-plotted as many traditional novels, it hits all the marks I'd expect from the blurb and the title.
Again, this is an entertaining book. I laughed, and the absurdity of the erotic sections were fun to read. I'm not sure if people are out there actually reading these things for the reason many read erotica, but if you're just looking for something fun, raunchy, and entertaining to kill a couple of hours, you could do a lot worse.
well, I admit, I started this book with no idea of what I was in for. I'd heard people talk about sexy dino time books. this book was exactly what it advertised, consensual interspecies romance, with plenty of sex.
I don't know that I will continue in this genre, but this book sure hits the mark for its intended audience. Forbidden love, hot sex scenes, fighting against prejudice, some action of the non-sexy variety, as well. Two thumbs up.
I've read a few other niche erotica books for book clubs and wasn't afraid of this as a premise, but this was just bad. Generally, we get a bit of campy fun along with the spicy parts, to have something to hold onto. This book was poorly written and threw together a million misplaced tropes (flesh play, underage, etc) when the dinosaur could have been enough of a novelty. If it's your brand of fun, then you know it is and will enjoy it. If you are curious about niche erotica you will probably enjoy others more. The narrator was fine, and wasn't distracting from the monster smut that was going on.
I can genuinely say I was not at all prepared for WHAS! I had heard so many (good) things, but this was a ride from the first page to the last. I am familiar with Monster Romance, but this book upped the bar in so many ways, and surprised me with how passionately I reacted to certain scenes. I will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a super fun read/listen. This was a great palette cleanser and I hope to see more from this author!
I tried. I really did. I went in with an open heart and a whole lot of "thing could be interesting".. but they were getting frisky within 13 minutes with almost no words spoken between them, and I just couldn't keep going. It also gave me slave-falls-for-plantation-master's-daughter vibes, which wasn't for me. Overall, it needed a little more depth before they started banging for me to be enjoyable for me.
If you're looking for spicy read that is silly and makes you think "this is ridiculous!" then this is the book for you!
well so this is erotica and very little story. I will say I felt confused a bit like I was missing part of the story or universe. I know its a standalone but still felt.. i needed a BIT of story. I really just need to know why dinosaurs had to smell fishy and meaty.. that made me really ummm not into the story.. I am totally okay with humans and fake animals/aliens/unconventional things. I suppose if you ever want to lose your arm, have dino sexy time and have him eat the rest of it off.. then this is your book.
i will say the narrator was very good!
This was not for me, I don't think dinosaur erotica is for me. I mean he ate her arm. No! I like that his name was Big Al and that they created a business out of this madness but yeah. No ma'am.
Read this if you...
enjoy a happy ending (no pun intended)
want something outside of your usual genres
like a solid plot, even if it's ALL OVER the place
Right off the bat - I would give this 2 stars. But, after sleeping on it for a night, I do think the plot is well-planned even though it seems like Faust was trying to fit in as many twists and turns as she possibly could. Regardless, that helped me give it 3 stars.
I heard about this book in one of my bookish chats and can't say I'd ever heard of dino-erotica. So, I immediately planned on checking it out at some point because why not? Instead, I made it a shared experience for my boyfriend and I on our drive back from WI this weekend - wow, is he a trooper! I can easily say this book left us both speechless.
Tanis meets Big Al and immediately falls in love, and from there, the story takes off. After Tanis' dad accidentally shoots her in an attempt to save her from Big Al, the new lovers run away, leaving Canada behind them.
From descriptive dino-sex scenes and rituals (full on dino/human train) and Big Al being hungry for Tanis' blood (literally) to dino hunting kidnappers, the radical reformation of America's slaughterhouse workforce, and a happily ever after ending, you're left thinking what in the world?
I will say there's a place for every kind of book, and this is certainly unique. Faust has a talent I certainly do not have. However, I don't plan on diving into more dino-erotica any time soon.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was... something, that's for sure.
So okay, I have read a lot of different romance books lately, but this one was probably the most unbelievable one to date. Tanis and Big Al's relationship felt forced at times, which made her character feel and sound so young, like way too young. The plot didn't make sense in places, and the writing wasn't the best (not the worst, but definitely not the best).
However, if you're looking for something on the humorous side that'll just have you shaking your head and kind of smirking the entire time then this was a quick read. But it definitely wasn't what I was looking for.
This book was as ridiculous as I anticipated. Wet Hot Allosaurus Summer was my first (and probably only) venture into dinosaur erotica. While I expected this to be absurd, I found myself laughing out loud on my morning commutes while listening to this book.
There were even a few times when I had to share the analogies used in the book. Like “he moved like I was the mortar and he was the pestle” or “he went at it like he was churning butter.” Come on, how can you not laugh!
This was definitely a humorous read, although I don’t think this sub-genre is for me.
