This was excellent. A jam packed edge of the seat thriller. Edgy, pacy and a bit different. Which I love. The novel is written with brilliant talent, the story weaves seamlessly, the characters are well formed relatable and likeable. And the ending packs a punch absolutely nothing not to love in this one. I really enjoyed Helen Kelley’s narration, which helped add to the drama and suspense. Published April 27th look out for this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins U.K. audio for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.

The Fall - Louise Jensen

This was my first experience of a Louise Jensen book, and I very much enjoyed it. I thought there was just the right amount of characters, and they were all very intriguing. I love all the twists and turns and this kept me guessing right until the end. I felt the ending was quite different to any book that I have previously read and very satisfying. The narration for the audio book was always very good, Many thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for the advance copy in return for my opinions.

Caily has fallen and is comatose’d in hospital. As the police search for who may have pushed her secrets begin to unfold. It seems that her family have many. Who could have wanted her harmed. Why are so many people not telling the truth.
The narrator brought the story to life and held your attention until the very end. A cleverly written book of family dramas.
Many thanks to Netgalley and his publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC

The Fall by Louise is a fast -paced and twisty tale of family secrets following two 40 year old twins, their daughters and a series of other family and non family members.

When one of the twins' daughters ends up in a coma following a 'fall' from a bridge, family secrets come to light and rock the family system to its core. All is certainly not as it seemed on the outside!

The multiple points of view and short chapters added to the intensity and suspense of the book and whilst there were a few plot lines that were quite unrealistic it was still a very entertaining read with an ending I hadn't manged to predict.

The narration for the audiobook was very good however the sheer volume of characters involved means passive listening is certainly not an option and I think the written account may be easier to follow.

I am grateful to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

I’ve devoured this title in a couple of sittings, absolutely hooked by a story of family deceits that reverberate through the decades. It’s very much a case of ‘oh what a tangled web we weave…’ with every family member having something to hide.

It’s packed with twists from start to finish and the ending was a total shocker. It’s a taut psychological drama; twin sisters both have something to hide. Their children, cousins and aspiring dancers, have a different side to the one initially portrayed. The grandparents are struggling, she with memory problems and he with an injury after a farming accident. Although devoted, he harbours a secret that divides their world with dreadful consequences. And around them a group of friends, husbands and partners who are complicit to a greater or lesser extent in hiding the truth.

All the characters are well drawn. The drama involves the listener, or reader buying in to a common premise; how far would you go to protect those around you? Louise Jensen writes with vigour, particularly in the second half of the book where events escalate out of control. But it’s well balanced and the plotting is superb with one secret after another being drip fed into the plot. I found it impossible to second guess the ending and when it came, it was jaw dropping. Brilliant all round and I’ll be looking for more from this author.

**Listened to the audiobook**

I really enjoy Louise Jensen's books, I find them really unique in an oversaturated genre. They've been real page turners. This book is certainly no exception.

The first 50% of the book I was gripped, and loving it. I just wanted to keep listening and was finding things to do around the house so I keep listening. However, after the midway point the book goes on a crazy tangent! It turns into an action novel, and goes in a direction that is so far away from the first half of the book. There's a whole sequence with a fire, and a barn that was just super random. Jensen's writing was great, the whole thing felt really visual - but it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book.
In part two, the book 'goes back to normal' and I was intrigued again.
It was an exciting book, and the characters felt very real.

The audiobook narrator was great. Her voice for the children characters was a bit stereotypical, but it did help to bring the book to life and helped to identify the characters so cannot complain too much.

One thing that did annoy me (although not at first) was the ending of some of the chapters, where it was saying something like 'but that wouldn't last' or 'but then tomorrow came' etc. This was a great technique to keep me listening/reading, but it just got a bit repetitive after a while and it became less 'clever' as a plot device.

Overall I really enjoyed my listening experience - but the book just went off on a few too many random tangents that just felt like padding rather than developing the plot.
Nevertheless, looking forward to what Jensen does next!

Couldn’t get the audio file to work but from what I did hear I thought this book would be a great slow burner. I will buy it with my next audioble credit.
