My 8 year old loved this! The narrator was so easy to listen to which is so important with an audio book! She loved the sillyness of the story and couldn’t wait to listen to it every night!
This was just such a fun, silly story with really great and vibrant characters. My children and I loved listening to it (it was narrated really well too!) because it was just the kind of gross and ridiculous humour that kids enjoy! I'd definitely recommend it for primary school aged children that have otherwise enjoyed things like Horrid Henry and the like — it's full of shenanigans and lots of children misbehaving and all those things kids love to see!
Thank you so much to NetGalley for sending me an audio copy of this book!
I got this for my 8 year old daughter. She loved the story and really enjoyed listening to it. She said she would recommend it and gave it five stars. The narrator was easy to listen to as well.
We had the actual copy of the book so enjoyed reading along but it is an audiobook that is so good to listen to. Narrator does amazing voices and all ages were laughing out loud at Stink and everything she gets up to trying to do good deeds. Jenny McClachlan has written a book that can bridge that tricky age for reading age7 plus where they are ready for chapter books and want a good story. Easily accessible, absolutely hilarious and short chapters. Brilliant.
Amusing 'bad fairy' story.
While most fairy stories will find a market almost exclusively with girls, I feel this one will not see boys squirm around.
Danny is rather horrified of course, to discover an ACTUAL fairy one day, especially when he learns it won't be so easy to get rid of her. But she's not exactly Tinkerbell or a fairy story example of her kind - well her name is Stink for a start. And she's rather troublesome, cheeky and eats woodlice. He can help her earn her silver wings with a good deed though... if she doesn't get him beaten up first.
I listened to this as an audiobook, and found the voice of Stink reminded me quite a lot of the Monty Python team when they dressed as women, which had me laughing a bit. It is a good listen though, just a few hours long and will hold interest.
Silly but entertaining, with some truly repulsive neighbours/bullies and lots of less-than-fairytale escapades.
For ages 5-10.
With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample audio copy.
Stink is funny, well-illustrated story perfect for those LKS2 reader and above who want an easily-accessible and engaging read. This is a perfect book for those children who have devoured all of the Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates books but feel daunted or apprehensive about chapter books.
"From the moment Stink flies out of the fairy door and attaches herself to his hair, Danny knows that Stink is trouble. She needs his help to do a good deed and win her silver wings – and Danny will do anything to get Stink to go back to fairyland. But can Stink ever be good?" Stink, a mischievous and rude little fairy, is going to be a very popular character with the children at school!
Jenny McLachlan is the author of the fantastic Land of Roar series of books and so I was excited to read this. While the toilet humour isn't my kind of thing, it's not excessive and the kids are going to love it! The 4-stars are taking the kids in my class in account., although I'm sure that many will give it a five star rating! A well-paced, funny read.
What happens when your sister buys you a fairy door for your birthday and it summons the worst of all the fairies, S.Tink?
My daughter and I whizzed through the audiobook. We loved the mischief of S.Tink and found all the main characters to be laugh out loud funny. We really enjoyed the diary format and the lists Danny wrote. Great short and snappy chapters. The narration was enjoyable but I think S.Tink would benefit from her own narrator. Men doing an impression of a female voice when they narrate, tends to grate after a while.
I hope the author writes more in this series and if so, we will definitely back to read them.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review
