Twins separated at birth, a them vs. us vibe with a strong Witchy plot! This Royal tale was great! I loved our FMCs! I disliked Rose to begin with, but she really grew on me, I think I tickled the thorns before I saw the flower!
Wren was up there. I loved the tropes the book brought and I was thoroughly thrust into the story, I loved the dynamics of the relationships that were built and how the telling of the tale unravelled.
It had action, backstory and feisty females who honestly own it and then their heritage!
The narration was great and I loved how it was paced, the POVs were well differentiated and I was fully engaged throughout. I'm looking forward to the next book!!
I really enjoyed this book. Two perspectives from different twins. A journey with romance, betrayal, violence, witches, royalty. Well written and easy to follow.
I always love a story of duality and two-sides-of-a-coin trope. When it comes in such a fun and entertaining story, it's all the better.
Two sisters who couldn't be more different - or so they think. And both fighting for what they think is the right side. Until they get a look at what the other one's life is like, and they start going forward together.
The plot itself is very well thought through while not being overburdened with exposition or complexity. Instead there is so much humor side by side with serious aspects. Side characters just made me laugh it loud at times (I'm looking at you, Ansel).
The dual POV never got dull, and I was always looking forward to reading what the other sister was up to.
What I extremely appreciated was the two romances not becoming annoying at all, while at the same time not taking away from the sisters' agendas or the plot. Very well done.
The audiobook is expertly read by Ann Marie Gideon and Ell Potter. With each taking the voice as one sister and whoever surrounds her, made it very easy to follow the plot. And having a thing for accents, I found the chosen voices very entertaining, especially Shen, who I assume has a Scottish accent.
The bonus content on the audiobook - an interview with the authors - was a really nice surprise I appreciated.
I can't wait to read book two!
4,5/5 stars
Thank you so much @netgalley and @harpercollinsuk for the eARC!

Twin Crowns was so much FUN. It was whimsical, feisty and I had the time of my life listening to the audiobook. I loved both sisters and their POVs equally, and really enjoyed switching back and forth between them. Both went on such satisfying journeys both separately and then together, and I cant wait to see them grow together in the books to come.
The plot, whilst still intricate and intense at times, was just FUN. I loved both romances a lot, though I do have to admit I have a slight preference for Wren and Tor. The yearning between them was to die for.
The audiobook was great, and I really appreciated there being two different narrators for Rose and Wren as it made it super easy to keep track of what was happening to who. I also really loved the bonus content at the end of the audiobook, with the Q&A with both authors. I hope more audiobooks start to include fun things like this.
Thank you to Harper Collins UK Audio and NetGalley for the Audio ARC. All opinions are my own.
“The thought of being able to decide her own destiny, to make her own choices, suddenly made Rose feel brave. A shiver danced down her spine, and she wasn't sure if it was the chill of the wind or the thrill of what the future held, but it was enough to nudge her onward.”
I really enjoy a hidden princess story and I like stories about witches, so Twin Crowns was always going to go down well because you had those things times two.
Basically the whole world was times two: world building, interesting characters, deception and action. A lot was squeezed into quite a short book and yet you can feel there’s so much more to come. There’s so many directions and twists that I just feel like the sequel could take.
I liked the characters, both main and side. Rose and Wren, despite being vastly similar in many ways, felt like different people - they had the many of the same dreams, but it was interesting to see them approach them in different ways. I also liked the friendships they’d formed separately and how they came to like each other too.
I can’t wait to see the adventures in the sequel and to see how/if any budding romances take flight.
I received a free audio arc from Netgalley all opinions are my own.
The story was fine, it was pretty predictable with the romance and well honestly everything. I didn't really like any of the romances, and the plot Fell flat to me since everything was so predictable. This is just a run of the mill YA book to me.
I wouldn't mind reading the sequel though.
I liked the audio narration a lot, the only thing I disliked was Shen voice/accent.
Otherwise I enjoyed listening to the story.
This book has been on my TBR for a while now and so when the opportunity to read the audiobook came up (Thank you NetGalley), I just couldn't resist.
Firstly a little feedback on the audiobook - I really liked the two voice actors, Ann Marie Gideon and Ell Potter, their vocal range is really good and the male parts were pretty believable. The pacing was also really good and it was so easy to become absorbed into the story and characters.
Now onto the actual story, I really loved this book. I felt the story was fresh and interesting - a little predictable at times but I have a feeling this won't continue into the sequel. The characters were well-developed and loveable.
The only downside in my mind is that I would have loved to have got to know the characters more!
Overall a really enjoyable read and I can't wait to see what happens!
A romantic light fantasy that doesn't take itself seriously.
This is just the authors having fun writing together, they wanted to write about twins separated at birth and then how each becomes the other's obstacle, it's almost like enemies-to-lovers but exploring that through a sibling relationship - then mirroring that in the romantic relationships.
This has everything you'd imagine from the cover, witches in exile, a castle, a princess, a mysterious tragedy that shapes the lives of twin sisters separated at birth and taught to fear each other, or each other's worlds, handsome guards and protector types, fiesty heroines (though Wren was more capable in description, than in deed, she's a pretty rubbish spy/liar, and she messed up/needed to be rescued quite a bit, as did Rose, though Rose was generally more capable than Wren), villains a-plenty, the looming prospect of a marriage to the prince of a far-off kingdom, and even a ballroom filled with wild animals! What more could you want?
I think I'll need to read this again, because people have mentioned this being laugh-out-loud funny, and I didn't get that, I listened to the audiobook, and the times I laughed were all at the odd pronunciation of various words by the narrator for Rose. In some ways, the dual narration could have worked, because it emphasises the different perspectives of Rose and Wren, but then, when they come together, or when the narrators voice the same characters, the accents are off. I would have preferred the narrator for Wren to have read the whole book. Apologies if this is the narrator's natural voice, and I've got it all wrong, but the narration for Rose really sounded like a bad British accent, every word was affected and uppity, no matter what was going on, a deliberate choice probably, she definitely wanted to give the 'entitled princess' vibe, but every time she spoke, all I could think of was Jennifer Coolidge's character, Amanda, in Friends: "I've never had any professional dance training!" and the voice didn't change as the character grew, the only changes were where Mary Poppins Dick Van Dyke kind of pronunciation crept in, and as to the other characters, no idea where they were supposed to be from. I just wish if the publishers had wanted British accents, they had hired a British narrator, every time the chapter belonged to Rose, I was taken out of the story by the narration. Again, apologies if I've got this wrong, the narrator reads very well, and put a lot of energy into it, but that was just my reaction to it, to my English ears, it sounded like a wrong choice.
Anyway, narration aside, the plot was simple, the romance obvious, the pace fast, and the world interesting, but not complex. There deliberately wasn't a lot of depth to this, the authors wanted a fantasy rom com, and rom coms tend to be formulaic and predictable. This is a curl up and read in a day kind of book, a well-written guilty pleasure, and a bit of fun. I'll definitely be reading the sequel (though I might avoid the audio version)
I had so much fun listening to this audiobook. I laughed, I got teary in places, I adored the romance and the sister's individual personalities.
I thought it was well paced and had a good balance of action, character building, and romantic moments.
I would definitely recommend this book for people who love YA romantasy.
This was a fun, twin twisty fantasy. Thank you to the publisher for the chance to review. I liked. the dual voice chapters, Wren was definitely more of a likeable character than Rose, it took me a while to get past her slightly pretentious princess ways. I warmed to her later. All in all, this was a brilliantly co written book. Thank you.
What a wild ride! I was hooked on this book from the beginning and I thought the characters were fantastic, each of them bringing their own personality to the narrative and the different voices on audio were well done, too. Rose’s discovery of her bravery, and her opportunity to explore new parts of her country (albeit against her will!) made for an interesting read and I enjoyed her character’s development. Wren is a lot more feisty and possibly my favourite sister (sorry Rose!) because she’s a little wild, stubborn, and likes to live a little dangerously. She’s torn between her duty to her grandmother and her people, and what she is right. She has to make difficult choices, and can’t always rely on her magic. Her relationship with Tor was playful and flirtatious, but with their conflicting loyalties, and Wren’s many secrets, do they have a future? The blushing guard appears bewitched by unruly Wren and I’m completely obsessed with them both. I’m almost as obsessed with whatever is unfurling between Rose and Shen.
This book has romance, action, magic, politics and long lost siblings. If that isn’t everything you need to have a good time, I don’t know what is!
I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.
I loved this book! I loved the alternating chapters from each sisters point of view, I loved the magic and the plot of the story. A great book!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc in exchange for this review.
This was a fun read, but I did find myself caring more about Rose than Wren. I think it may have been the adventure ascent of it being great, whilst Wren’s intrigue it was a bit lackluster. Also, the use of Danish words for names kinda took me out of the immersion, since I just couldn’t take it seriously.
so i had this as an ARC audio and sometimes i struggle with audio books to keep me gripped because when you read you imagine the voices etc yourself, but i have to say the narrator was very good, this book its self is such a twisty book and keeps you on your toes throughout it, it had me laughing out loud and gasping, i felt the emotions of the characters as if they was real and really living them themselves, the two female leads are both strong females in there own rights but so very different from each other as well. this is a must read for fantasy lovers, it will make you feel like your there yourself.
Do we have a contender for a new favourite? Yes we do. I LOVED this.
Twin sisters, separated at north, both vying for the crown? Yes please. And thats not to mention Shen & Tor, which were fab additions I must say… the element of romance in this added to its perfection.
It was like a glorious parent trap mock up, with wren pretending to be Princess Rose whilst poor Rose gets kidnapped and forced to go into hiding so she doesn’t blow Wrens cover.
I loved the dynamic between the characters and the whole story was just addicting. The audiobook narration too was fab and really helped draw me into the story. It was so so easy to listen to. I can’t believe I finished it so quickly, I want to go back and listen again!
It has magic, prophecies, romance, a drawing story and a cleverly created world. I loved it all and will eagerly be awaiting the next one!
Thank-you to Harper Collins for providing an audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review.
Twin princesses separated at birth—one raised as the pampered crown princess, and the other raised to kidnap her sister, steal the crown, and avenge the exiled and hunted witches.
At first, I disliked Rose (the Princess). She felt shallow and entitled and the voice the narrator gave her made her sound like she was constantly putting on airs. But my perception of her quickly changed and I just wanted to give her a hug.
Wren is the classic strong and stubborn FMC - trained from birth to take the royalty from within etc. A character you can’t help but root for due to her wit and biting, funny internal dialogue.
Since we're trying to avoid suspicion on our way in, I'd rather not leave eighteen bodies behind us.
I loved that the audiobook also had bonus content where the two authors answered questions. Their love and dedication to the world and characters is evident and they bounced off each other so well - echoing the fluency and fun of their book!
The authors described this as a fantasy rom-com, and I agree!! It felt like the Princess Bride meets Three Dark Crowns and The Bridge Kingdom!
