Not the usual genre I read but it sounded interesting and I don't regret it. Set in New York in the 1940s, this talked about real life events such as the Pearl Harbour attack and the rise of German fascism. A recommended read.

Fasted Paced and An Engaging Read.
Enemies of All by Edward J. Leahy is a fast-paced book which is well-written and very engaging. The characters are very well-developed, and the plot is suspenseful and exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The stories are based on real events and and fiction. the book is set in the early 1940s, and the author has set the period lovely.
The book is about NYPD Dan Brady, who is an Irish immigrant whom as a boy in Dublin ran messages for the Sinn Fein. Dan is working on two cases the first involves a serial rapist with a bad headache who thumbs his way into woman's bedrooms. Dan spends his long days tracking down this rapist from state to state as his crimes finally extend to murder. Dan’s second case involves anti-Semitic crimes, and particularly a series of jewellery burglaries, which Dan suspects are part of a larger effort to disrupt the war effort as most of the victims are nearly always Jewish. Dan believes when a high school chemistry lab is burglarized of ingredients for high explosives, that it is the same people and Danny soon finds himself in a race against time to prevent a major bomb attack.
A well-written and thoroughly enjoyable detective novel plus there is a happy conclusion for at least two of the main characters. This is the first book I have read by Edward J. Leahy, and I was not disappointed, and I look forward to reading more books by Mr. Leahy’s. It was a very engaging read, and I highly recommended this book. This was a fast paced, keep you on the edge of your seat, and not knowing what’s coming around the next corner kind of read. I also enjoyed the mix of fact and fiction. If you enjoy mystery and suspense, and a bit of history thrown in, I believe you will enjoy this story. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Leahy brings us next.

Daniel Brady is an Irish detective working for the police during World War Two, and he has two cases to work on. The first involves tracking down a serial rapist whose crimes finally extend to murder. Bradyholds a candle to one of this rapist's victims, after being horrified about the way husbands tend to treat victims, never mind the courts' ways of dealing with rapists's times.

His second case involves a series of jewel robberies, where the victims are most always Jewish. Surely nothing to do with the war.....

The stories are based on real events, so that whilst this novel does not offer a contrived thrill a minute, there is a feel of authenticity. There is also a feel-good factor in that there is a happy ending for at least two of the main characters. A thoroughly enjoyable detective. novel.

Before the US got into the global war in 1941, multiple states were battling a serial thief with a double twist to his actions. The main narrator is an NYPD cop, in the first third the alternate is mainly the bad guy, but the alternate throughout is a dedicated German fascist including his contributing to the German war machine. The parts about the sympathizers disrupting shopkeepers, jewelers, and places of worship in an apparently random pattern throughout three of the boroughs is historically sound. A very interesting story.
