I really can’t get enough of anything by Robert Bryndza at the moment. Yet another great thriller with enough red herrings to keep us guessing right up until the end. A real page turner.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A standalone thriller from the excellent Robert Bryndza, whose Erika Foster series is consistently good. When Maggie's husband is found shot dead at home, the verdict is suicide, but she doesn't believe it. She sets out to discover the truth in this breathtaking thriller which is fast-paced and full of stunning revelations, with the threat of death always there. Brilliant!

Maggie and Will have a very strong marriage, they have been married for 24 years. Maggie is a trauma surgeon at Guy's hospital in London and Will changed his career 6 years years ago as a doctor to become a full time property developer.
One night their world falls apart when Will is rushed into hospital with a gunshot wound to his head.
Everyone including the police believes it was suicide but Maggie doesn't believe that Will would take his own life.
After the funeral Maggie decides to close up their holiday home in Croatia and whilst there she receives a letter from Will, which was posted by his solicitor incase of his sudden death.
The letter turns Maggie's world upside down and when strange things start to happen to her on the remote island and starts to fear for her life.
Who is trying to kill her and will she be able to get if the island alive?
A brilliant and electrifying read.

This was a thriller with lots of twists and turns, with very well described characters and the remote Croation island in winter sounded as ominous as the intricate plot. The excitement didn’t let up, with a good dose of conspiracy mixed in.

I have read and enjoyed many books by this author so I was very happy to get an advance copy of this new one, which I believe is his first standalone.

The story revolves around Maggie, a doctor, trying to come to terms with the death of her husband, apparently by suicide. She quickly discovers things which show this was not the case, and finds a whole side of her husband's life which she knew nothing about. Consequent discoveries put her and her associates in incredible danger,

The premise of the story was excellent but sadly I did not believe in any of the characters, especially Maggie herself whose behaviour was frequently quite irrational. The book was fast paced, tense, complex and scary - all those things yet I cannot say I actually enjoyed it. Sadly I can only give it two stars and say it was okay.

The beginning of the book was very good and I was expecting it to go in the direction of the husband’s death and the mystery behind it. Then the protagonist goes to an island in Croatia and the plot takes a nose dive with an attempt on her life at every turn and a knight in shining armour waiting to jump in and sweep her off. The original crime is forgotten and all the allegations on the husband are left to the winds. This is nowhere near the two series by the same author.

This book is fantastic! I was hooked from the first page. I wasn’t blown away by the storytelling or the twists, but I wasn’t bored.

I was impressed with this author and his ability to capture my full attention. There were lots of twists and turns within the plot. This was a fast-paced thriller that went in a different direction than I expected. I didn't know what characters could be trusted.

Maggie's husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger. After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past… Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Overall I enjoy it. A page-turner that I had a hard time putting down, exceptionally smart and entertaining, if you’re looking for a lighter thriller with plenty of action, this it's for you.

A special thanks to Raven Street Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC of Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza in exchange for an honest review.

This is an "edge of your seat" standalone story by Robert Bryndza.
The only problem that Maggie had in her life was her overbearing Mother in law who still couldn't understand why Maggie and Will had opted to remain childless.............until it wasn't.
Dr. Maggie Randall, senior trauma registrar at Guy's and St. Thomas hospital in London, had just saved a young stab victims life, she was awaiting a gunshot casualty and it was at that moment when Maggie's life was to change forever, the almost lifeless body on the trolley was Will, her husband, Will who she had been with since medical school, Will who was happy doing property design after giving up forensic medicine, Will who had put a gun in his mouth and blown his brains out.
Maggie didn't believe the coroners verdict, she knew Will, or did she ? The people at Will's funeral were mostly powerful people who Will, and his family were acquainted with.
Maggie was to take herself off to the beautiful Croatian house that Will had built for her, a house where they shared many happy memories but things on the island were different in winter, it was isolated and silent apart from the waves pounding the rocks, Maggie was nervous. When a letter was deliver to her from her late husband "in case he died in suspicious circumstances" Maggie's nervousness turned to fear, especially as attempts were made on her life, who could she trust ? who wanted her dead and why ?

This story follows Maggie's determination to solve the mystery of Will's death and the mysterious letter, the arduous dangerous journey across Europe. This author has brilliant descriptive powers, I could almost feel the wind and the rain as the storm raged. An enjoyable, well written mystery.

3.5 stars

As a fan of Bryndza's long series, I was so happy to receive this advanced copy of a new standalone in Fear The Silence.

It took me a while to get into this one, as for a while there when we got to Croatia, things went from the bizarre to the ridiculous, and I was worried where things were going with Maggie's tale.

However once things settle down there, we were on a Bourne-esque escape across borders by all means available.

I did like where Maggie got to in the end with her nemesis of the story.

So, whilst not my favourite by this author, and to me definitely not his best work, I am glad I read it, and I look forward to more from him in the future

This Mystery Is Worth Your Time!

If you’re looking for a slow-paced psychological thriller, this isn’t the book for you. Robert Bryndza created a fast-moving intelligent mystery with plenty of action.

The book opens with our peaceful main character Maggie, ER physician, performing surgery to save a life. She is a happily married woman, respected and with a wonderful best friend. Suddenly, an emergency patient is brought in with a gunshot wound. He cannot be saved, and the patient is Maggie’s beloved husband, Will. The police determine it is a suicide. Maggie believes it is impossible.

She discovers her husband is keeping a secret from her and in addition to being a young widow, she is shocked by the horror of the upcoming events. She and Will owned a large vacation home which is outfitted with state-of-the art electronics. The home is in Croatia; Maggie goes there to clear out the home; instead she discovers Will’s secrets have placed her in a precarious position.

This book is more than a page-turner. It is intelligent mystery, an introduction to Croatia while the reader is bombarded with twist after plot twist. The author joins the harshness of the weather, the unforgiving sea and murder into a multi-faceted plot centering around Maggie trying to save her own life. This is not solely about a husband hiding secrets from his wife, it involves extreme violence and a conspiracy. Maggie’s reaction to the violence depicts a smart woman who is determined to survive. The book, however, deserves a better title.

If you want to read an exhilarating mystery, start reading! My gratitude to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for this pre-published book. All opinions are expressed are my own.

Wow, another brilliant read by Robert Bryndza!

"Three may keep secret, if two of them are dead." - Benjamin Franklin

"How can it be that the worst day of my life started out as one of the best?"

47-year-old Maggie has been married to Will for 24 years and it's been a good life although her mother-in-law is a bit of a challenge.
She works as a doctor at the St Thomas Hospital and Will is working as a property developer but he used to be a forensic pathologist.
She's on night shift when a male in his mid-40s with a gunshot wound to the head is brought in.
This is when Maggie's life falls apart because the patient is Will and there is nothing they can do to save his life.
Maggie is devastated and she's convinced her husband would not have committed suicide.
To get away from it all she takes a trip to their holiday home on a small Croatian island but there she receives a strange letter from her husband and this is the start of a roller coaster ride for Maggie. She finds out secrets about her husband and people will kill to keep those secrets.
Will Maggie be able to outsmart them?

A quick and very entertaining read!

Thank you to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

When Maggie's husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he's the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger. Maggie is consumed by grief and questions. Will wasn't suicidal and had so much to live for. After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret. As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will's death is connected to someone from his past.... Someone who will go to extreme lengths to to keep Maggie silent.

This is a new standalone thriller from the author, and I was looking forward to reading it. I was not disappointed. Maggie is a trauma doctor and she's shocked to discover that the patient on the table is her husband, Will. His death is ruled as a suicide, but Maggie is not convinced Will would take his own life. After the funeral she travels to Croatia where they had a holiday home. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will confirming the circumstances of his death weren't straightforward. This is a descriptively written book. Maggie doesn't know who she can trust. The pace is fast, and its action packed. I love the authors writing style. The suspense builds throughout, It had everything I like in a book - mysterious death, secrets and corruption. The ending was a surprise.

I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed the Erika Foster series and the Kate Marshall series, and I was really excited to read this stand-alone by Robert Bryndza. I never bother to read an excerpt, and to be honest I don’t even look at the cover if I know it’s an author I enjoy. From the first chapter of ‘Fear the Silence’ I was hooked.

It was cleverly written, and I loved that it was so different to the Erika Foster & Kate Marshall series. While standalone books sometimes fail to evoke the same level of attachment to characters as series do, I did really like the main character in this novel. There were a few moments that quickened my heartbeat, particularly those involving water, which always manage to stir a touch of anxiety within me. Once I began reading, it became incredibly difficult to put the book down.

I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story is a great thriller about a surgeon whose husband dies - apparently by suicide. Maggie isn't buying it. But all evidence points that way.

After the funeral, she heads to their holiday house on a remote island in Croatia. And then unexplained and upsetting things started to happen. As Maggie tries to unravel the events that are becoming increasingly scary, Maggie begins to worry about her safety.

The story moves from one horror to another and the reader wonders how she will get out of this alive. The ironic ending was satisfying.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Net Galley.

Maggie, a physician, is in shock when the gunshot victim brought into the A&E is her beloved husband, Will, and she is told he committed suicide. Six years ago, he gave up his career as a forensic pathologist to become a land developer. When Maggie travels to their vacation home on an island in Croatia and receives a mysterious letter from Will, she is determined to find out the circumstances of his death, thus putting herself and others in grave danger.

I would call this more of an action thriller than just a mystery; at times it seemed like a horror story. Although it is not my favorite by this author, whom I like, it was so compelling I couldn’t put it down and read it in a day. Much of the action was a bit over the top; I don’t typically like to have to suspend my belief when reading a book. The ending was very satisfying.

Fans of Bryndza’s Kate Marshall or Erika Foster series (which are on my “don’t miss” list) will find this standalone thriller different from those detective novels. Just like another book by a prolific author I recently read, I could see this serving as a treatment for a Netflix series!

When Maggie leaves her husband safe at home to go to work one night at the hospital where she works as an emergency doctor, she had no idea how her life was going to change before her shift was over.

After the events of that night, she is on a mission to get all her affairs in order and the first stop is Croatia and what she thought was going to be quite a short trip ends up with her questioning everything about her life, fearing for her safety and not knowing who to trust.

This was a fast-paced twisty thriller that kept me guessing!

I have been a Robert Bryndza fan for years, and it was fun reading a stand alone after loving the Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series.

In Fear the Silence, Maggie's husband Will is found dead and it is assumed a suicide. She struggles to believe that, and goes to one of their vacation homes after the funeral to get away, and when she arrives, she finds a letter from Will. What she learned put her on a collision path with a very dangerous enemy.

You feel the nervy suspense of Maggie's experience from the very beginning, and as she learns more, it's hard to tell if you are dreading the ending or anticipating relief. This is a perfect psychological thriller for the summer!

Taking a break from his usual crime fiction/police procedural, Robert Bryndza writes Fear the Silence, his first standalone thriller.

"After her husband, Will, commits suicide, Maggie retreats to their holiday home on a small island off the coast of Croatia. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.
As Maggie puts the pieces together, she finds Will was connected to someone from his past...someone willing to go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent."

I like the bones of this story - corruption, old secrets, an isolated house, mysterious deaths, exotic location. Bryndza has an easy-to-read style and it's good to see him trying a standalone. It felt like there were some awkward transitions between parts of the story and a few jumps in logic with the reveals. A couple of things that happened on the island felt unnecessary. The story doesn't play out like you think it will and the ending is a big surprise.

Good fiction from Bryndza.
