Another unputdownable thriller from Robert Bryndza! As much as I love his Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series, I think this stand-alone might be my favorite. Maggie, a dedicated doctor, and her husband seem to live a charmed life until the inexplicable happens. To come to terms with her husband's sudden death, she visits their dream vacation home that they had built on a secluded island, and scary events start happening.
The second part of the book is quite exciting, and I found myself rooting for Maggie every step of the way. Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and Raven Street Press for the advanced reader's copy.
When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger.
Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal. He had so much to live for.
After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret. As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past… Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.
Even though his book is standalone, I still enjoyed it, not Robert's normal series. Still a strong story that had me reading late into the night.. After Will's death Maggie decides to leave and spend away at there holiday home in Croatia, after she arrives Maggie finds a letter from her late husband and this will provide a starting point to find out why her husband Will took his own life, Maggie does not believe Will would have committed suicide, he had too much to live for.
It becomes obvious that there is someone in Will's past or maybe Maggie's that is out for revenge and Maggie will now be thrown into a world where she will experience strong emotions to the clues she is piecing together, will she find out what really happened to Will?
Not his best work but I still enjoyed this book and will always continue to read more of these stand alone books. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
While I missed Erica Foster a lot, I enjoyed meeting Maggie Kendall and the troubles that found her. Did Maggie's husband really commit suicide? What about the letter that Will left her? Is there someone on the island with her? Is Eric a good guy or a bad guy? Will the ones who deserve comeuppances get them?
There are so many mysteries going on simultaneously, I could not help but wonder how Mr. Bryndza was ever going to be able to pull it all together. He did. Brilliantly. The ending was exceptional.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Fear the Silence. I loved it!
I enjoy a page-turner of a thriller with a complex plot, well drawn characters and a good helping of jeopardy; and I have no problem suspending disbelief (within reason) in return for a good read. Fear The Silence certainly delivered on plot complexity although there are some holes in the plot; there are some well drawn characters but some one dimensional ones, too; and it is generally an intriguing and entertaining read. But perhaps the author might have dialled back the jeopardy a little - there was a bit too much for my taste and consequently the overall credibility of the story suffered.
A very exciting thriller which I enjoyed. It was perhaps a bit too far fetched for me to relate to but worth a read.
Great book! Mystery, intrigue and corruption. Doesn't get better than that! I highly recommend this book! Worth the read!
WOW! Robert Bryndza has done it again. Fear the Silence is definitely one to read if you love psychological thrillers. As I started reading, it became clear to me that I was not going to be able to put this one down. I usually know within the first couple of chapters if I will truly be able to stay captivated by the storyline. No question this one did not let go , I was hooked. Imagine learning of your husbands death, learning it was due to a gunshot and then thinking it must have been an intruder. Then, you are told it was a suicide. Our protagonist Maggie Kendall is a Trauma surgeon and after spending some time with her husband, Will, he is brought in to the ER only to die shortly afterwards. She is distraught and cannot fathom the fact that her husband is gone and the police question if it was a self inflicted gun shot. She is adamant that he had too much to live for. Once things are settled from the funeral, Maggie decides to stay in the vacation home they have in Croatia. She knows it will be quiet there as it is off season. There she finds a letter from Will. It contains clues to a secret. One that someone else wants to remain that way. After arriving, things start happening that cause her to take pause. She cannot shake the idea that someone else must be on the island with her because there are way too many coincidences that keep happening. The letter from Will explains a key will help her understand. By this point the reader is not sure if Maggie is truly being followed or if everything she has been through is making her overwhelmed or paranoid. The writer continues to take you on a roller coaster of a ride and I even wondered if Maggie could actually be trusted. Does someone really want Maggie dead? Does the friend that shows up really want to help her? The ending is a fireball of emotions. Just when you think you have it figured out, you quickly find you are wrong. I can honestly say that this is the best book I have read to date and believe that someone should make it into a movie.
5++++++ stars out of 5

Absolutely BRILLIANT stand alone by Robert Bryndza. Fast paced full of twists and turns....I inhaled it in a day and didn't want it to end! I'm a huge fan of Bryndza's previous books and was a bit worried I wouldn't enjoy this stand alone but it really was one of the best books I've read this year.
Robert Bryndza writes a terrifically dark and intense standalone thriller featuring ambitious and able St Thomas's A&E trauma surgeon, 47 year old Maggie Kendall, happily married for many years to Will, a former pathologist, now a property developer, both having made the decision to remain child free. She is at work when her world falls apart, she sees Will arrive at A&E suffering from a gunshot wound to his head, from which he dies. She is in shock and disbelief when the police inform her he had committed suicide at their Bermondsey home, as far as she is concerned this cannot be true, but then it becomes clear there was much she did not know about him, including the fact he kept a gun in their home.
A grieving Maggie travels to their Croatian holiday home to recover and to retrieve some of Will's items for his family. Their man Branko drops her off at their exclusive and spectacular island home, but its off season, and the only inhabitants left are Dragan and his son, Luka. A series of events, an intruder, and apparent mishaps have Maggie scared and fearful, and her life is about to become dangerously derailed when she receives a surprise letter sent by Will. It seems that Will has further secrets, secrets that leave her exposed and could get her killed. As the weather deteriorates considerably with nobody able to land or leave, the idyllic island paradise turns into prison that traps a Maggie running uot of options, will she able to outrun the nightmare powerful and ruthless forces that are after her?
Bryndza writes a well plotted and thrilling crime novel of murders, power, corruption, secrets and deception. Maggie is a great character, a self absorbed and hardworking trauma surgeon, who is set to learn at great cost just how little she knew of the man that she totally loved. This is a gripping, entertaining and engaging read that kept me glued to the pages, right up to the end. I think the many fans of the author will love this too, as will readers who discover him for the first time. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
This book was definitely full of twists and turns. I was kept engaged and found it difficult to put it down. The beginning definitely pulled me in but then for a few chapters I was left wanting more to happen. By the middle it picked up again and I didn’t put it down again until I finished it. I look forward to reading more books from this author in the future!
I inhaled this book in one day! It had me gripped right from the start till the very end! I absolutely loved reading this fast-paced crime thriller that is full of adventure, buried secrets, and some powerful people. I usually love reading thrillers but this one particularly caught my attention because of the rollercoaster pace it had.
Tis was my first book by Robert Bryndza and I have to say, he knows how to engulf the reader in his book! He conjured up a riveting thriller with a strong female lead.
The story begins when Maggie is on duty in an A&E when a patient comes in who has a bullet in his head. The patient has no life left in him when Maggie sees him and the erath beneath her shatters. It was Will, her beloved husband. According to police investigation, it was a suicide but Maggie has a hard time grasping this verdict. Maggie travels to her and Will's vacation home in Croatia where she receives a mysterious letter in Will's handwriting. The letter might just change Maggie's life forever. She embarks a suspense filled journey to find out the actual reason behind her husband's death. When her close friends encounter unexplainable accidents, Maggie realizes that a bigger agenda involving people in powerful positions is at play.. Will Maggie survive to tell the tale of her husband's death? Read to find out!

What a brilliant stand alone story. It has lots of twists and turnswhixh will keep you guessing till the end.
Absolutely excellent stand-alone novel by Robert Bryndza. I’ve enjoyed many of Robert’s books in the past so jumped at the chance of a preview copy of Fear The Silence, and am so glad that I did. Very well written, great storyline, read it in two sittings , a real page turner . Highly recommended!
Maggie is a trauma surgeon. Will, her husband, retired as a Pathologist six years earlier and was now involved in real estate development. When Will is found dead, allegedly by a gunshot into his mouth, Maggie has difficulty accepting it. She goes to their summer house on an island in the Adriatic off the coast of Croatia. There things began happening to her. The tension builds rapidly and keeps you wondering what happens next. The ending is very satisfying. Thanks to the author and publisher for an ARC for an honest review.
What a rollercoaster! This thriller which definitely achieved the title thriller! The writing is tight and the suspense was taut. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engaged all the way through. Recommend highly!
A brilliant stand-alone thriller from Robert Bryndza - so good I devoured it in a day!
Maggie is a doctor and loves her job. She also loves her husband and is devastated when he seemingly takes his own life. In the aftermath of Will’s death she takes a trip to their holiday home in Croatia. Already having doubts about whether Will’s death was suicide she finds herself in a living nightmare.
Fear the Silence was fantastic! Full of twisty turns and utterly terrifying experiences, this mystery thriller was one of the best I've read in a long time.
Maggie's husband Will is shot and killed and the cops believe it was a self-inflicted gunshot. Maggie disagrees, and when she receives a note from Will, it leads her on a chase to find out the truth. She is terrorized while staying in their dream home on a small, seasonally-inhabited Croatian island: she almost drowns due to a faulty pool cover, her smart house seems to be controlled by someone else, among other scary situations. Maggie doesn't know who to trust, and nothing seems as it was. It's an edge-of-your-seat thrilling ride, and I was here for it.

Maggie is very confidently childfree throughout her life. She and Will were married for like 20 years and she never expressed any interest in having kids and frequently spoke in the book about her satisfaction in not having any.. Most women I know who made the same (100% valid) choice had surgery to ensure it would never happen (or their partners did). So all that to say that I a really hard time with her total 180 of deciding to keep her pregnancy--not to mention the fact that a DOCTOR had a surprise pregnancy in her late 40s. Come on, Robert. Other than that, this book was awesome.
Maggie is a doctor then on one of her night shifts a man is admitted with gunshot wounds as she goes to attend she realises it’s her husband Will they say he shot himself but not everything is as it seems.
I have to say it’s not as good as his other books it was like somebody else was writing it, best bit was the last few pages which were exciting.
