Random Thoughts is a short book of poetry which I had hoped for
more from. Unfortunately, for me at least, this book didn't resonate
with me at all and I felt it fell rather flat. I didn't feel much from any
of the poems which is unusual for me and I just couldn't take to it (I
read it twice to make sure it wasn't just my mood)
Such beautiful poetry that had me tearing up a lot, it was very relatable with talks of the hardships we all face in daily life and how isolating they feel. It was very short but packed a punch. The only thing that held this back from being a 5 stars for me was the covid conspiracy theories which made their way in there and I felt like I was reading anti-vaccine propaganda which is definitely not my jam and doesn't align with my views so I felt a bit put out, that was however a very short aspect and I really loved the rest!
Random thoughts is a collection of poems which covers misgivings that comes up daily and curious thoughts.
The poems were simple and easy to understand, yet I felt like it jumped from one thing to another. Yes, this was the intention given the title is “random thoughts”, it honestly was not something I enjoyed reading.
But! There were a few poems I liked hence the 3 stars out of 5. As I mentioned, it was easy to read this collection of poems, and I do want to read what more the author has to publish in the future! Not everything is everyone’s cup of tea, but I do hope this is going to be someone’s favorite poem book!♥️
Happy reading!♥️
I got this book for free from netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
One thing you probably don't know about me is that I absolutely love poetry. But I haven't made enough of an effort to read more of the genre this past year.
I got this short little chapbook, with poems about daily life and daily struggles on NetGalley and I think it was a good way to get reacquainted with the genre.
It's an easy and relatable read. There's something for everyone in here.
I did get emotional at times when the author talks about difference and ADHD. I do wish some of the other poems would have dug a little deeper to be more impactful and make me think on them more as well.
I did really enjoy this quick read and would definitely for anyone trying to get into the Poetry genre.
Thank you for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
A powerful and evocative collection that captures the joys and struggles of daily life. The poems are both introspective and relatable, offering insights into the many different emotions and experiences that we all face. Each poem is a reminder that we are not alone in our daily thoughts and struggles.
This poetry collection unfortunately was not my thing at all.
The first couple of poems had a nice, consistent rhythm to them. After those, the odd grammatical choices started, which destroyed the reading experience, at least for me.
Also, none of the poems except for "ADHD" made me feel anything, which is very rare, especially as most of them are on topics most people experience in their lives.
Another part I didn’t like was that the poems about the pandemic drifted into conspiracy theories, or at least strongly hinted at them, while trying to still be relatable.
So, sadly, this collection was not my jam at all. I do love the cover though.
This chapbook of poems is a thought-provoking and insightful collection that explores the daily worries and interrogative thoughts that we all experience. The poems are beautifully written and offer a fresh perspective on life's complexities. Each poem captures the essence of a different aspect of daily life, from stress to the importance of taking a break. This chapbook is a must-read for anyone who wants to reflect on their own daily experiences and emotions.
This is a great collection of poetry that really got me thinking about certain things, it is well written and was a delight to read
Brief meditations on life, many with themes of the rushed nature of modern life—goals not quite reached, or set only because everyone else is aiming for the same thing, not enough time to slow down and smell the roses.
The poems are all fairly nonspecific (mentions of paths and goals and the daily grind, for example, but not what those mean for the author specifically), which means that they're likely to resonate with a lot of people on some level but don't have the precision to stick in my memory.
I'd have loved some sort of author's note to tell me a bit more about the context for this chapbook: "Daily Poems," says the subtitle, and I wonder whether writing these poems was a way for the author to process and decompress. I hope they served their purpose.
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.
it was fine, but none of those poems made me feel anything. it really is just random thoughts about random things
