This was a quick read. The characters banter was enjoyable, but that was about it. I couldn’t really like them enough to care.

I enjoyed the coastal small town vibe. The characters were too appealing to resist. I think it might be interesting to see Logan get his own book. Could there be a spin-off in the future? So cool when a tough guy finds "the one." Read this very quickly

Callie, an author, spots something suspicious near her home and flees to Flamingo Cove, fearing she's being pursued by the individuals she witnessed. There, she encounters her new neighbor, Devon, a grouchy retired military man with a tainted history with women. He yearns for a peaceful life as a Dive boat owner until Callie enters the scene, reshaping his perspective. The highlight for me was Callie's fearless stance against Devon, demanding an apology for his initial sour demeanor. Their dynamic, from Devon's internal battle over his feelings for Callie to their playful exchanges, made this a captivating read.

This romance novel seamlessly intertwines suspense, keeping readers on edge with every turn of the page. Between anticipating a romance between Devon and Callie and the looming threat from the mysterious men in the SUV, it was impossible to set the book down. It's a must-read for every book enthusiast.

Callie has moved to a new town because of something she saw from where she was from. The men that were after her she hopes will not follow her. That is not to be. Her dog has picked up on the trouble and when she sees it herself she tries to stay calm but it only frustrates her because she thinks no one will believe her. Devon who is ex-military is not the happiest person and he tries to stay out of everyone's way, especially Callie. He finds her attractive but cannot talk to have without upsetting her. When he notices something is wrong though his protective mode goes into action and it will not stop. A good book with good characters.

I read this book in one sitting. I love this book with my entire heart. A quick read that had me pulled in from the first chapter.

I had a great time reading this novel! It was a delightful, fast-paced story with lovable characters, especially Callie. The book pleasantly surprised me since I had no expectations. It's a cute and enjoyable read, perfect for the lake or beach. I appreciated the diving elements the author incorporated. While it's not a traditional suspenseful romance, it offers a touch of suspense alongside the romance.

After Callie witnesses a robbery and she herself is attacked a short time later, she decides to flee, also to protect her dog Apollo. He attacked and injured one of the perpetrators during Callie’s robbery. In small coastal village Flamingo Cove she has found a small accommodation, tries to relax there again and continue writing her book. Only then her neighbor moves in and their first encounter is anything but positive. The „Mountain Man“ as Callie secretly christens him, is grumpy and she hopes that their paths will meet as little as possible. But it comes as it must: „Mountain Man“ apologizes and eventually the two get closer – only Devon doesn’t want a woman at his side. But all is well until someone shows up in the small town hunting for Callie….
Callie makes a nice and sympathetic impression and you can feel her love for Apollo all the time. She loves the dog and would do anything to keep him safe and stay with her. What I found amusing was her planning of how and when she writes and what she does as a reward…or what she better not do because it takes her out of the flow.

Devon is in desperate need of some rest after his military service and many bad decisions regarding women. He decides to return to Flamingo Cove, finally buys a boat on site and wants to spend his future as a captain. His „new“ neighbor, Callie, is a temptation on two legs for him, but after several conversations, he realizes she is the kind of woman who has caused him more than enough problems in his life. He would much rather have a quiet, unexciting woman – but his heart wants someone else. No matter what Devon tries to tell himself, he can’t get away from Callie. When he learns her secret, he immediately goes into protector mode and takes care of his neighbor and girlfriend….
Davon is anything but sympathetic at the beginning, but you get to know him and his motives better in the course of the book, so that you end up taking him to your heart.

The writing style is kept simple and easy, so that you can read the story without comprehension difficulties. The story is dual POV (Callie and Devon), which gives a good insight into the respective emotional and mental world.

I enjoyed „Captivated by Callie“ even though I found the love story of Callie and Devon a bit too predictable. The two have some nice and not so nice moments together and you can watch them „falling in love“. My highlight was definitely Apollo and his protective instinct towards his mistress.
All in all a nice story for in between.

Captivated by Callie by Jennifer Bishop is the first book in the Flamingo Cove series.

Devon Steel, as retired military returns to Flamingo Cove to start his new boating business.

Callie Hargraves is on the run and hopes that Flamingo Cove will be a safe place to hide out.

Things don't always go to plan and they soon realise that there is some attraction that is hard to resist between them. Unfortunately Callie's past is catching up with her, and Devon ends up having to help her stay safe.

Easy read, a bit of romance, a few smiles, feel good and enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley and Jennifer Bishop for the chance to read an ARC for “Captivating Callie. This is my honest and unpaid review of the book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and a great read! The characters were easy to follow along with and I just loved Apollo. He reminds me of my German shepherd cross! I read this story in a day and now really want to head out on a boat and cruise around the ocean….and drink some good coffee. I’ll keep a look out for the next book!

I thought this was a sweet story. I did not like all the redundancy in it though… many things seemed repeated over and over again. I think if this hadn’t happened it would have had a chance at being 5 stars.
Overall, the concept of the story was cute. I’m a sucker for a story with a dog as a side character.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thanks to Netgalley and the author/publisher.

General Thoughts: This was a fun, cute, lighthearted, fast-paced novel. I really liked the main characters, particularly Callie. Going into a book with zero expectations means you always get to be surprised one way or the other. I was surprised by this one in a good way.

It was cute and enjoyable. It seems like it would be a perfect lake or beach read. I loved the elements the author brought into this one with diving etc. It's light on suspense, so don't go into this one expecting it to be a romantic, suspenseful novel in a traditional way. It's definitely more romance than suspense with a dash of suspense.

I thought it was well-paced and enjoyable. I read an ARC of this, so there were a few errors that I'm sure have been caught since I read it.

If you're looking for a fun, quick read, then check this one out.

Steam Meter: ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 This one wasn't overly steamy or graphic. Definitely still for 18+, but tamer on the scale. More sweet than spicy.

Memorable Lines::

-"I might call you trouble, but you're my trouble."

-"See what happens when I let you out of my sight for a few weeks? You make a complete mess of your life."

Thanks so much booksgosocial and NetGalley!

This is a quick read of a romance with suspense. Callie and Dev are great characters, and I wanted more of Dev’s past. The obvious star of the book is Apollo the dog. This book was sweet and I hope everyone makes an appearance in the next book in the series.

This is my first book by this author and I definitely enjoyed it. Interesting plot following callie who is an author on the run from something. Her new neighbor devon is a grumpy retired military man who immediately feels drawn to her but fights it because of his own inner turmoil. The chemistry is there and the push and pull was just enough. The tension is hot and when they finally get together it is well worth the wait.

Callie is hiding out in A small beach town when she meets Devon. He knows she is hiding something and when he uncovers her secret he wants to protect her, but can he? I liked how it was told from both points of view. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

This was my first book from Jennifer Bishop, and I will say it won't be my last I loved this book so much especially the characters. Callie is an author who sees something in an alley by her house and runs to Flamingo Cove because she thinks she is being followed by the men she saw. While in Flamingo Cove she meets her new neighbor Devon. Devon is a grumpy retired military man who wants nothing to do with woman from past relationships All Devon wants to do is have a quiet life as a Dive boat owner but then he sees Callie, and everything changes. My favorite part of the book is when Callie doesn't take crap from Devon and makes him apologize for their first encounter where he was very grumpy From the push and pull of Devon struggling to act on his feelings for Callie to their funny banter this was such a good book.

This was a great romance book with lots of suspense. I was engaged every page of the book and was always wondering what would happen next. Whether it was if Devon and Callie would finally be together or if the men in the SUV that she saw would find her, this book had me not wanting to put it down. This is a book that needs to be on everyone’s to be read list.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

An enjoyable read, with likeable and realistic characters. The touch of mystery is a plus, as is the lovable Apollo.

Callie on a run, after witnessed crime. Now she try to hide and hope they cant find her. In Flamingo Callie keep her guard up and carefully watching around to keep her and Appollo the dog save.

Devon come to Flamingo Cove for new start, distraction from beautiful and sexy Callie is not needed. Devon always being magnet for woman with trouble, when he feel attraction to her, he know she is a trouble but he cant help it.

I enjoy the story and the problem in this book, chemistry between Calli and Devon so strong. Even when they try to avoid each other then they meet the pull getting stronger. Devon able to tell if somethjng bothering Callie and she already know Devon pattern to push people off. The misundersrood between them really annoying, they jump into bad conclusion before really comunicate hit my nerve.

This was such a great read! It was the perfect length for a nice beach read or while cozied up inside. It's the first book by Jennifer Bishop that I have read and it's the first in a series. I can absolutely say that I am now eagerly awaiting the next one!

Callie is braver than she gives herself credit for and doesn't take crap from anyone. Including Devon. Who is a very grumpy retired military man. Devon is naturally confident and protective along with having a total alpha personality. But Callie has him wanting to apologize for his grumpiness and even trying to give something between them a chance. Despite a rocky romantic history.

While this is a great romance, there is also plenty of suspense to keep the reader engaged. Callie is being targeted, which is why she ends up moving in next door to Devon. When he gets the sense that Callie is afraid of something and then sees hard evidence of it, he vows that he's going to get to the bottom of it and keep Callie safe in the meantime.

I swooned plenty of times while reading this book. I also laughed out loud on multiple occasions. The rest of the time, I was on edge wondering what was going to happen next and how Devon was going to help Callie resolve her dangerous situation. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and opinions.
