Good premise but execution wasn't there

Although I loved the idea of this story - it sounds really fascinating - I was defeated by the sheer level of detail on every single page. Everything is described in excruciating detail, and by the time I've got through a bit I've forgotten what's going on. For instance, here's a page worth:

Wiping the sleep out of his eyes, he got up and walked into the bathroom. He reached into his toiletries bag and pulled out a fresh sponge. With a quick rip he tore open the package and deposited it in the can. The shower felt good on his skin as he rubbed the sensitive skin body wash onto the sponge and washed himself. After that, he reached out through the curtain and pitched it in the garbage. A handful of face cleanser went on and came off. Finally, he scrubbed shampoo into his hair and goatee, and washed it off, before using conditioner and repeating. He dried himself in a towel, before combing his chin-length sandy brown hair parted in the middle.

I'd have been perfectly happy with "He showered and got dressed". Now maybe I'm weird in this way, and I hope I am! I hope people are really enjoying this read. But I'm afraid I can't stick with it. I'm posting this to goodreads but nowhere else.
